Annalise stared at Matteo with an incredulous look in her eyes, before a familiar anger welled up within her.

"You, out of all people, have no right to speak!" Annalise barked out, upset. "If not for the both of you, would my daughter be living so pathetically right now?"

Emline was in this hot ss because he wouldn’t put aside Alia. If he had simply gone along with the marriage, would Emline need to do sothing as drastic as faking a pregnancy to trap him?

Of course Matteo wanted Emline to abort the child. That way, there wouldn’t even be a hint of a scandal left. But if Emline did so, she’d have nothing left! No man in high society would want a wife that was so blatantly ’used goods’.

With modern tis, people were more accepting of won having premarital sex. But being pregnant and having an abortion was simply too much for most people to accept!

Even if sohow Emline managed to scrounge up a husband with a good enough background that accepted this public part of her, his parents definitely would not approve!

The only people Annalise would trust with her precious daughter’s welfare were Charles and Catherine Montgory.

However, her daughter didn’t agree with her reasoning. Love had made her blind.

"Mom! I want an abortion, and if I don’t get it by dical science, I’m going to fling myself out the window!" Emline threatened. She was currently staying on the top floor of the hospital, so it was no idle threat. "When my body hits the floor and shatters into a thousand pieces, the baby will also be gone!"

"Emline! Don’t talk nonsense, you’re scaring !" Annalise cried out frantically. Tears were forming in her eyes in her desperation to get her daughter to see sense. Why was she so stubborn?

"I’ll help you open the window and push," Aiden said, with all sincerity, and he proceeded to do just that, prying the window open by just a bit.

Emline nodded in thanks and got up to stand by the window. She lifted a leg and placed it against the ledge, shooting her mother a threatening glance. anwhile, Aiden continued to push the window open, slowly and steadily widening the gap.

Alia couldn’t help but note that this was probably the first ti they were in such agreent, and it was about pushing Emline out the window to abort their child, who was created out of accidental incest. If it wasn’t so fucked up, she would be on her knees collapsing with laughter.

But now, things were so serious that she couldn’t make a single peep or smile. Judging by Annalise’s behavior, whatever she and Matteo said would only spur her to dig her heels in and oppose Emline’s decision out of sheer spite.

If Emline did jump, Alia doubted her mind would recover from the trauma of seeing such an event happen in person. Her baby would be forever scarred from the womb!

If Annalise had been frantic before, she would be downright hysterical now.

"Baby no! You’re all that Mom has... Don’t jump! You can’t die like this!" Annalise cried out in desperation. "Step away from the window! We can still talk it over!"

"There’s nothing to talk about," Emline replied evenly. "It’s either the baby or , mother. Choose one. If you don’t let abort the child, I will no longer be your daughter."

"You... you..." Annalise gasped.

" or the child? Mom, who do you choose?" Emline repeated evenly, with no strain on her face.

The room fell into tense silence.

The warm breeze and outside air flowed into the room, from the crack of the open window. The scent of the fresh morning air seed to slap Annalise awake.

She realized her daughter was serious.

"I... Okay... Baby, let’s have an abortion. Okay. I agree. Now step away from the ledge, that’s a good girl―"

Emline quickly put her leg down and winced at the strain in her muscles, but she couldn’t help the smug smile that crossed her face.

"Excellent. I knew you would see things my way, Mom. Don’t worry, I know what I’m doing. Aiden, what are you still hanging around for? Close the window, you’re letting the air conditioning out. And go get a doctor!"

"God you’re bossy," Aiden complained, but he still did as she asked. They got the abortion they wanted! He was so delighted that he was willing to follow Emline’s commands. Once the baby was gone, they would have nothing to do with each other.

Soon, the doctor returned. Upon realizing that the issue was resolved among everyone, Emline was hastily wheeled into the operating theater for the abortion. Alia and Matteo wanted to leave, but they also wanted to have proof that the procedure was successful.

Aiden was so relieved, he sunk into the plastic seats and cradled the pineapple lovingly.

"Life is good again," he said wistfully. "Finally, I can get a good night’s sleep."

Annalise shot him a dirty glare. This man was incorrigible. Here she was, twisting her fingers anxiously, hoping that the procedure would go well, while this man didn’t care at all! He was simply ecstatic that he could wash his hands off this ss!

The sharp clicking of heels distracted her thoughts. To her surprise, it was Catherine who ca over, and she quickly embraced Annalise.

Annalise stiffened. She had not forgotten how her best friend had betrayed her by siding with her son.

"I’ve heard the news from Aiden," Catherine said. "With Emline’s courage and determination, she will make it out unscathed."

"Who knows," Annalise said coldly, not wanting to talk to Catherine any longer.

But Catherine wasn’t her oldest friend for nothing― she could clearly sense Annalise’s moods, and hurriedly worked to bridge the gap.

"My friend, I know things look bleak now, but it will be a new start for her. I know you’re mad at for not marrying my son to your daughter, but this is for the best. Emline does not deserve to be saddled with my idiot of a son. If Aiden was worthy, I would have arranged for a marriage between the both of them to begin with!"

She continued after seeing Annalise’s shoulder slacken a little. "Why would I even insist on Matteo and cause such a big ss?"
