After their passionate lovemaking, Matteo wanted nothing more than to cuddle Alia and sleep on the sa bed as her. However, he heard Aiden’s loud voice from outside, cheerfully welcoming Isaac ho, and telling him of Matteo’s visit.
"They’ve spent an awfully long ti inside together," Aiden said, deliberately raising his voice. "I wonder what they could possibly be doing."
"That damn brat..." Matteo scowled, while Alia snorted in amusent, even as the thought of walking out covered with Matteo’s marks and his essence inside her made her face burn in embarrassnt.
"We’ll have to get up eventually," Alia said reluctantly, slowly but surely extricating herself from Matteo’s tight hold. She began to put on her clothes. "There’s no place for you to sleep here."
"And you’re not moving back with ." Matteo couldn’t help the bitter smile that crossed his lips as he got up and tidied himself. Yet, he knew it was rely wishful thinking; with Emline’s issue being so perilous, it was best for Alia to be kept further away from the blast radius.
Matteo would use his body, his heart, his very soul to shield her from harm. Alia had already suffered enough, he’d be damned if he put her through the wringer just to satisfy his burning need to have her close.
This intimate encounter would have to be enough to tide him over until it couldn’t any longer.
Once they were decent, Matteo opened the door to reveal Aiden’s smug, knowing face.
"And here’s the happy couple! Congratulations―"
Isaac cleared his throat and tugged him away, his face a burning red. He was a doctor, so he had no doubts about what happened inside his spare bedroom. "Co on, stop putting people in a spot."
"Exactly," Matteo said drolly. "You wouldn’t want broadcasting your affairs to everyone here, would you?"
"Excuse you, I’ll have you know I’m upholding a vow of celibacy at the mont."
Three pairs of disbelieving eyes stared at him in judgental silence.
"Now I’ve heard everything," Alia shook her head.
Aiden speaking nonsense had effectively destroyed whatever awkwardness there was from their mini walk-of-sha, so she could hold her head up high and walk Matteo to the door to see him off.
Isaac was torn between being a good host or just simply letting him go. Matteo Montgory hadn’t even drank a cup of water yet, after all the vigorous exercise from earlier!
"I’ll see you soon," Matteo said, cupping Alia’s face tenderly in his hands, every word a promise he intended to keep. "Once this is over, I’ll marry you in style. We’ll be a proper family."
Alia gave him a watery smile. "I’ll be waiting for that day. I don’t need to be married in style. I just want our wedding to be peaceful."
Matteo nodded in agreent, and with one last lingering kiss, he departed. Alia watched him walk down the corridor, eventually vanishing from view before she shut the door...
Only to be t with Aiden’s wolf-whistling and wiggling eyebrows.
"So this is the plan! You’re going to make sure you’re pregnant and fight Emline, baby with baby! Since both of you were inside for quite a while, I’m assuming it must be successful. Isaac, you’d better go and spray so air freshener in the room and pray to a fertility god."
Isaac sighed. "Must you put it this way? And fertility isn’t up to the gods. It’s up to dical science."
"Don’t make that expression; it makes it look like you have worms on your face," Alia said instead, and she raised a hand as though she was going to swat that expression off his face. To her surprise, Aiden dodged it with a horrified look on his face.
"You haven’t washed your hands. Who knows what kind of fluids it was covered with? My brother’s―"
Alia smiled wickedly and stretched out both hands. "Keep talking nonsense, and I’m going to sar it on you!"
"Hey, don’t co any closer― Isaac, stop her!"
Isaac could only laugh as he watched his supposedly adult roommates play around like children, Aiden’s outraged shrieking echoing through his ho. It was noisy, but nice. It made his quiet house feel more like a ho. Even when Dimitri ca over, it would never be as lively as it was now.

The next day, it was back to work.
In front of the other employees, Alia and Aiden were the picture of professionalism. No one knew that their new CEO scread like a baby at the thought of being confronted with his older brother’s bodily fluids. It was gross, but Alia felt that it was suitable payback for all the nonsense his mouth spewed.
Half of the workday passed placidly enough. Then Alia received a ssage from an unknown number.
It rely said, ’Watch your back. You’re in trouble.’
Well. If that wasn’t awfully ominous, Alia didn’t know what was. Her phone number wasn’t common knowledge unless soone had maliciously scribbled it on the restrooms as a nasty prank.
Co to think of it, that would be the kind of petty nonsense that Emline would do. Maybe this was another one of her cronies she hired to scare her into changing her number.
Unfortunately for Emline, she was no longer the powerless Alia Kentwood who waited tables for a living. Since she was an heiress with connections, she might as well use them.
She screenshotted the number and decided to ask Dimitri for a favor. He was trustworthy, and he wouldn’t leak the news to Matteo. She could handle sothing so inconsequential on her own.
’Dimitri, can you help find out who this person is?’ Alia asked over text. ’They’ve sent an ominous-sounding ssage, and I’m not too sure where they got my number from.’
More importantly, she added a note. ’Please don’t tell my father or Matteo about this. They have enough to worry about at the mont.’
She continued to work, occasionally checking her phone for a response. Eventually, her phone lit up with a response.
’This number belongs to Kelsie Friesent.’
