As the sudden, glaring light flooded the room without warning, Mia instinctively lifted her hand to protect her eyes from its brightness. Gradually, she attempted to acclimate her vision, allowing the intense light to gradually penetrate her senses.

"Is it possible you’re truly that frightened of the light?" a recognizable voice reverberated throughout the room. "You had the courage to stir up so much chaos, yet now you’re intimidated by a re bit of light?"

Mia gradually brought her hand down, utterly astonished. She scanned the room, attempting to acclimate to her environnt.

Her eyes grew large with surprise upon noticing the woman seated on the bench directly in front of her.

"Is it really you?" Mia uttered in disbelief, her voice quivering slightly.

The woman remained seated; her face adorned with a wide, nearly taunting smile.

"Britany? Is it really you in this jail?" Mia exclaid, her voice brimming with disbelief.

Yet, Britany chose not to respond, opting instead to bow her head montarily before raising it once more, eting Mia’s gaze directly.

Within Britany’s eyes, there was a subtle spark—sothing Mia found elusive and couldn’t fully understand.

It seed as if there was a hidden ssage behind Britany’s composed deanor, a warning that Mia needed to heed.

"What? Were you surprised to see

here?" Britany’s tone was easygoing, almost as if she were teasing.

Mia remained rooted to the spot, her rage simring beneath the surface. "I reached out to you several days ago. I distinctly rember trying to call you, but you never answer . Why did you choose to disregard my calls?" she asked, her exasperation escalating.

Yet Britany maintained her silence, her face showing no sign of emotion.

To Mia’s astonishnt, Britany nonchalantly crossed her legs, reclining back in her chair as she settled in comfortably.

"I was busy. Didn’t you see that?" Britany answered nonchalantly, as if the whole situation were trivial.

Mia frowned, trying to make sense of what she was hearing. "You were busy? That’s why you ignored ?" she snapped.

Britany let out a soft chuckle, shaking her head slightly. "Oh, I won’t forget that attitude of yours. You always act so untouchable."

"Really, Britany, sotis you can be funny," Mia responded, trying to mask the tension building within her.

"I know that, and frankly, I don’t care. You always had the audacity to do whatever you wanted. Look where that got you," Britany said with a cool smirk.

Mia’s face darkened.

She quickly replaced her frown with a forced chuckle. "Just because I’m in this cell doesn’t an it’s over. Trust , Britany. It’s going to take a lot more to break . You won’t believe what’s coming."

"Oh really?" Britany’s voice was sharp. "It’ll be a miracle if you manage to get bail. But I wonder how you’ll handle the obstacles that’ll co once you’re out of here."

"Just because the dia knows I’m in jail doesn’t an I won’t be able to convince my people. I can tell them sothing happened," Mia said, though doubt crept into her voice.

"Really, Mia?" Britany raised an eyebrow, clearly amused. A small giggle escaped her lips, which only served to agitate Mia even further.

"Why are you laughing?" Mia’s voice rose, frustration lacing her words.

"Oh, it seems you haven’t realized sothing yet," Britany said with a sly smile. "You don’t have your phone, do you?"

Mia’s frown deepened. "What do you an? How could I have my phone when they took everything from ?" she snapped, her voice tinged with frustration.

"Right," Britany said with a shrug, her smirk widening. "I forgot. In a place like this, they take everything from you. But you might want to pay attention to what’s going on outside."

Britany leaned back against the bench, folding her arms as she rested her head against the wall. She looked directly at Mia, her gaze intense.

Mia froze, trying to process what Britany had just said. She could feel her stomach drop as realization began to set in.

Mia’s face turned pale as the weight of Britany’s words sank in. "No, that’s impossible. How could... how could Jordan be caught?" she stuttered, her mind racing to make sense of the situation.
