Ji Yunhuan lay on the bed, too exhausted to stay awake, and had already fallen asleep.
Qi Cheng sat beside her, taking the thermoter handed by the doctor to check her temperature.
The sight of her peacefully asleep made his heart ache.
What saddened him most wasn’t that she wanted to leave him. It was that in his attempt to beco her support, he had beco the one who made her the most heartbroken and disappointed.
Ji Yunhuan’s cold wasn’t severe. It was mainly her poor emotional state that made her look so despondent. Thus, the doctor didn’t put her on an IV, only prescribed so dication.
Qi Cheng tended to her personally. He struggled to get the pills into her mouth, but she just held them there without swallowing.
He brought water to help her, but the water rely dribbled down her mouth. He quickly grabbed a towel to wipe it away, fearing her clothes would get wet.
Seeing Ji Yunhuan refusing even to take her dicine pained him deeply. Was she hating him?
So, she was intentionally torturing her body.
He picked up the cup, took a sip of water himself, then leaned down, pressing his lips to hers to slowly transfer the water to her...
This thod was obviously much more effective!
Ji Yunhuan slept in a daze, half dreaming, half awake. In her consciousness, she was aware, yet she was still in a sleep state.
She dreamt of their wedding night, of Qi Cheng kissing her.
Unlike that day, Dream Qi Cheng was exceptionally gentle.
She originally thought he would soon push her away as he did in her mory, but he didn’t.
He kissed her, never intending to let go.
"Cough cough cough..." In the quiet room, Ji Yunhuan’s cough startled the man beside her. Qi Cheng, who lay next to her, raised his head and found she was awake.
Since she’d taken the dicine, she looked a bit more spirited now.
"Awake?" He reached out to touch her, but Ji Yunhuan coldly avoided him.
She turned away, not wanting to look at him, nor to be cared for by him.
Seeing her cold deanor, Qi Cheng’s heart twisted.
She would hate him, that was certain.
He wasn’t angry either.
He asked her, "Hungry? Want sothing to eat?"
She had slept since she returned, and it was already the afternoon.
"Don’t bother with ." Ji Yunhuan averted her gaze. "I don’t want to see you right now."
She couldn’t forget: Qi Cheng’s kindness to her was all because of Su Molang.
All his current concern was only for the sake of the deceased Su Molang.
He didn’t love her.
Yet, she pathetically lost herself in his previous insincere promises.
Qi Cheng watched her back. He’d known this day would co, but now that it was here, he felt a burning pain like fire.
The regretful thing was that ti couldn’t turn back.
He spoke to her gently, "I don’t expect you to forgive everything I’ve done. Just, if we’re to divorce, can we wait until after the Gu Family Residence’s matters are settled? After all, we just got married. Divorcing now seems unreasonable."
"Fine." Ji Yunhuan closed her eyes weakly.
She hadn’t thought about divorce.
She just wanted to face reality, not to be confused by his tenderness. But since he said so, she had no reason to refuse.
After all, she was the woman who caused the death of his friend; what right did she have to his love, to his tenderness?
"Ma’am, please eat sothing!" Shortly after Qi Cheng left, the female housekeeper ca in, carrying congee specifically made for Ji Yunhuan.
She was ill, not suitable for greasy food.
Ji Yunhuan had just freshened up. She had the female housekeeper put the congee on the table and sat down.
Last night, she only had so instant noodles, and she was already starving.
The female housekeeper stood by, noticing her complexion was better than before, "Ma’am looks much more spirited than when you returned, not in vain considering the Mr. took care of you."
Ji Yunhuan paused.
She looked up at the female housekeeper.
The female housekeeper asked, "Did I say sothing wrong?"
"No." Ji Yunhuan sighed, slowly finishing the bowl of congee and handing over the empty bowl. "Please get another bowl."
Even though she knew there was a reason behind everything Qi Cheng did, thinking of the tis he was kind to her, Ji Yunhuan still could not control her heart.
It seed that at so point, just hearing Qi Cheng’s na made her heart tighten involuntarily.
Clearly, he was a man who was kind to her because of soone else, yet he arrogantly took up residence in her heart.
All day, Ji Yunhuan stayed in the room, not wanting to go out and see Qi Cheng, just wanting to sort out her thoughts.
The next morning, after breakfast delivered by the servants, she still did not plan to go out.
A servant nearby said, "Ma’am, the weather is nice today. You should go out for a walk."
Ji Yunhuan glanced out the window. The sky after the heavy rain was indeed clear.
She’d never liked staying at ho. Staying cooped up in the Qi Residence felt like imprisonnt to her.
Looking outside, she felt an urge to go for a walk, but then she thought of Qi Cheng...
Her bright eyes dimd again.
With her bad attitude before, he must be mad, right? He hadn’t returned to the room since yesterday.
"Ma’am isn’t planning to go out?" The servant anxiously looked at her.
Ji Yunhuan looked up at the servant wearing a black suit and the Qi Family crest, "Can’t I not want to go out?"
The servant awkwardly said, "The Mr. said you should go out more often. He’s worried that staying at ho will harm your health. The air outside is good. Would you like to go for a walk?"
The servant tried hard to please her, like coaxing a child.
Ji Yunhuan said, "Tell the Mr. he doesn’t need to be so nice to ."
Anyway, it was all fake.
She already owed Su Molang too much, and with Su Molang gone, she didn’t want to owe any more favors.
Of course, the servant wouldn’t be so foolish to say such words to Qi Cheng.
Seeing the servant looking at her helplessly, Ji Yunhuan stood up.
Since she got up, she was still in her robe.
"Go get an outfit."
"Right away."
The servant joyfully went into the dressing room to get her clothes.
After leaving the room, she was no longer in the previous disheveled state, returning to her usual refined self.
Ji Yunhuan walked through the living room and into the yard. Qi Qi ran up to her joyfully.
Seeing this overly enthusiastic dog, Ji Yunhuan finally confird why the dog seed so familiar—it was Su Molang’s dog. Su Molang used to bring Qi Qi, then a puppy, to see her.
Little did she expect that the little creature would grow so big, and after all this ti, it still rembered her.
