Chapter 423: Chapter 423: Xu Jingjing Is Going Back to Her Hotown to Get Married

“I just don’t get it,” Mrs. Xu said, clearly annoyed. “Climbing up the back mountain is exhausting. Who would suffer through that if they had nothing better to do?”

She would certainly not do such a thing. Working every day was killing her. Why wouldn’t she just relax at ho during her rest days instead of wandering to this godforsaken place for fun? It was so boring.

But then she thought that it was her daughter’s idea, she could only shut her mouth, not wanting to crush her daughter’s spirits.

Third Brother Xu didn’t listen to Mrs. Xu. He had been up the back mountain; it had flowers and water, and even a pavilion. How nice it would be to sit there in the sumr.

Plus, there were lotus flowers planted in the river–they must look so lovely when they blood.

They could also go fishing and have picnics. Just thinking about such days made him feel delighted.

Even the usually pragmatic Xu joined in, saying, “That’s right, Mom. You don’t understand. Young people these days like this kind of life. It’s called experiencing rural beauty.”

Mrs. Xu despised it; she didn’t find it beautiful at all.

In the afternoon, Second Aunt Xu arrived at their ho with her son, wife, and daughter.

On her face, Second Aunt Xu showed profound gratitude toward Xu Ying. If Mrs. Xu hadn’t stopped her, she would have knelt down in thanks imdiately.

She had never imagined that one day her son could return to normal. She kept this kindness in her heart.

“Yingying, Second Aunt, thank you,” she said.

Xu Shengshun had forgotten how foolish he had been these past years; all he knew was that he had woken up to find himself married to his wife.

Every ti he thought of how Cheng Yinglan’s actions had left him impaired for so long, he couldn’t help but feel intense anger.

But learning that it was his cousin who had cured him, and that she had even taken revenge for him, he was utterly shocked.

In his previous impression, his cousin was just a pretty but silly girl without any sches, a thoughtless girl.

He hadn’t expected that she could be so capable.

Seeing Xu Ying’s transformation, Xu Shengshun was full of admiration and gratitude, “Yingying, thank you.”

Xu Ying shook her head, “We’re all family, there’s no need to thank .”

But the one who was the most excited was the eldest junior sister-in-law. She looked at Xu Ying with sincere gratitude, “Yingying, thank you. If you ever need any help from your eldest junior sister-in-law, just say the word.

As long as it’s within my power, I’ll definitely do it.”

Xu Ying admired her older sister-in-law as well; she had stayed by her brother through thick and thin for so many years, where others might have abandoned him long ago.

“Eldest junior sister-in-law, you shouldn’t talk like that. We’re family, there’s no need to be so formal.”

Xu Jingjing stuck out her tongue and plopped down on the bed, looking at Xu Ying curiously, “Is going to school fun?”

She, a poor student, truly couldn’t see the appeal of studying.

Her cousin was neither short on money nor lacking a good job. Why bother continuing with school?

“What do you think?” Xu Ying joked.

Xu Jingjing thought she wasn’t happy and imdiately said with a raised chin, “I knew it wouldn’t be fun.

Why would you even want to go to university? It’s pointless.”

“How is going to university pointless? You can et more friends, learn more, do you think I could design or research food for nothing?

It’s all knowledge I gained from books. Knowledge is an ocean, endless, as long as you keep learning, you’ll keep gaining.

Just look at job hunting; they prioritize education. Without it, you won’t even have the chance to compete, so you need to study hard.”

Xu Jingjing found it all terribly annoying and didn’t want to listen anymore, “You’re starting to sound just like my mom.

Before, my mom would say, now my brother is better, he keeps saying it too, ugh, it’s driving insane.

I’m about to get married, and it’s all they talk about.”

Xu Jingjing was extrely aggrieved.

“Where do you plan to have your wedding with Secretary Yang?” Xu Ying, seeing that she didn’t want to listen, closed her mouth and simply changed the subject.

ntioning Secretary Yang, Xu Jingjing opened the floodgates of her complaints, “The wedding will be in his old ho, it’s so annoying, such a far place.

They barely even go back to their old ho now, why on earth do they need to go back for a wedding? Isn’t this just tornting people?”

It was simply making a fuss over nothing.

Xu Jingjing’s voice was loud with complaints, and everyone in the house could hear her.

Mrs. Xu was quite curious too, “Why do they still need to go back to his old ho for the wedding?

Doesn’t Secretary Yang’s family live in the county now?

Why not just get married in the county? It’s such a hassle to go back to the old place so far away.”

Second Aunt Xu was speechless, “Isn’t it just because of the relatives in his hotown? They said that their family left and never returned, accused them of forgetting their roots or sothing.

They insisted on going back to the hotown for the wedding, saying that’s the way to follow local customs.”

Second Aunt Xu was also feeling overwheld with issues at the mont.

Fortunately, the son-in-law was considerate and had already managed things well, so their family didn’t have to worry about anything.

It would all depend on how the son-in-law would handle it in the end.

It was just unfortunate for their relatives on this side, who would have to set out a day earlier.

“Big sister, it looks like you’ll have to trouble yourselves to set off earlier when the ti cos.”

Mrs. Xu laughed when she heard this, “Sure, it’s not a hassle at all. Jingjing is getting married; that’s a happy occasion. I, as her maternal aunt, am also delighted inside.”

Hearing Mrs. Xu say so, Second Aunt Xu felt a great deal of relief.

Having a daughter get married is a cause for celebration; she certainly didn’t want to fall out with relatives over such a matter.

After talking it over with Mrs. Xu, Second Aunt Xu and her sons left to go ho.

Mrs. Xu looked at her daughter and asked, “Where are you staying tonight? Are you staying here or going to your man’s place?”

Xu Ying was reluctant to be apart from her man, but she wanted even more to stay with her mother for a while. She smiled and said, “I’ll stay with Mom tonight and go back tomorrow.”

Mrs. Xu had been waiting to hear her daughter say this. As soon as she heard her daughter was going to stay, she was overjoyed.

She hurried to prepare Xu Ying’s room, “Your room has been kept just for you, it’s still as it was before you left.

I clean it once a week, everything is clean inside.”

Xu Ying’s eyes reddened with emotion upon hearing this.

She got up and followed Mrs. Xu back to her room, which indeed looked just as Mrs. Xu had described, the sa as the nights before her departure.

Shitou and Hu Zi noticed Xu Ying’s red eyes and, concerned, asked, “Little aunt, what’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing; I just miss ho,” Xu Ying said, wiping away her tears.

Hearing this, Hu Zi instantly pouted, his face filling with sadness, “If you miss ho, why don’t you co back sooner?

It’s been so long since you left, Granny Huo talks about missing you every day, and Hu Zi misses you too.”

As he spoke, his tears began to fall, “University is no fun at all, my mom also doesn’t co back for months, and as soon as you leave, it’s for months too.”

They hardly saw anyone anymore.

Hearing this, warmth spread through Xu Ying, and she went over to pinch Hu Zi’s little cheek, “Then I’ll stay this ti to keep you all company for a while longer.”

After Mrs. Xu finished tidying up the room for her daughter, she pulled her back into the room, “Let your man stay with Granny Huo in our house.

We have plenty of rooms anyway, and Granny Huo is old; she can’t cook for herself at ho.

We’ll just share a pot of cooked rice, to avoid the fuss.”
