"It has been a while since we last sat together like this. I’m so happy to see you all!" A dark-blue-haired young girl exclaid a bright smile on her in desperation to lighten up the dark and heavy atmosphere hovering in the air.

The king sat at the end of the large table, while the queen was seated at the other edge. The crown prince and Princess Arisia were sitting across from each other, in the middle of the large dining table. The table was filled with luxurious foods, fruits, and desserts but the bitterness between the royal family remained.

King Valerian was unable to properly look at his queen who kept gazing at him, her eyes filled with contempt. It has been going on for the past decade, ever since King Valerian’s illegitimate son, Lucian, appeared in their life.

"It has," Crown Prince Valen faintly nodded, unbothered by the atmosphere, unlike his younger sister who couldn’t hide her unease.

Princess Arisia fidgeted her hands nervously, receiving no reply from her parents.

They would have dinner once every month whenever everyone’s schedule could be slightly freed as Princess Arisia had a weak body and couldn’t go outside of the palace often. To fulfill her wish to spend ti with her family, the king and queen ca to this agreent– Valerian, Izabella, and Valen would make ti once a month to have dinner with Arisia.

"Ah, right. About last ti. Why did you leave in haste? There were nobles present. They will make up new gossip again," Valerian sighed, slicking his hair at the top of his head.

Izabella nonchalantly kept eating her food, ignoring her husband’s question. He knew very well the reason behind her action and yet, he dared to ask?

"My queen," Valerian spoke in a sharper tone.

"That child was there. I thought I explained before leaving. I cannot stay in the sa room as him, and if possible, I wouldn’t even breathe the sa air as him!"

"He is ’our’ child," Valerian locked eyes with the queen.

A scoff escaped Izabella despite herself.

"My children are Valen and Arisia, Your Majesty. If you wanted him to have a mother, you should have brought that woman along with him back then."

"Queen!–"

"Are you shouting at in front of our children for that kid, Your Majesty?" Izabella interrupted the man seated opposite her, a sigh leaving her in disbelief.

"Mother, Father, are you talking about brother Lucian?" Arisia asked, frowning at her parents who were once again speaking rudely to each other.

The only ti they would start behaving this way was whenever Lucian was ntioned. Arisia could not understand why her mother held such a deep hatred towards Lucian. She was told he was a hideous-looking demon, but the boy she t when she was younger, although the face had blurred in her mory over the years, looked no less than an angel.

"Do you all hate him because of his eyes?"

Upon hearing the question, the three others present in the hall glanced at each other, their eyes widened.

"Didn’t I make it clear that no one would ever ntion his eyes before he left for the battlefield?!" Valerian slamd his palm against the table, the plates jumped slightly due to the sudden force.

"B-but Father," Arisia stamred, startled by the king’s sudden reaction.

He was always kind and gentle to her yet he just yelled at her. She couldn’t understand what she said wrong.

"Anyhow, I wanted to let you all know that he will be visiting us with his wife soon. She is the princess of Eldoria, we can’t, nor should we ignore her bluntly. We shouldn’t let her realize how Lucian is treated. She should think he is loved by us or else she might tell King Alistair that we married her off to an illegitimate who doesn’t even have a place in the royal family. After all, the king dotes on her a lot."

"S-she will be my sister, right?!" Arisia exclaid excitedly, her cheeks flushed at the realization. She always wanted to have a person to call a sister and finally, there was soone for her to ’sister’.

"You won’t be eting her," the king objected.

"Why not?"

"You need rest," Izabella sighed.

Arisia pursed her lips, keeping quiet. Whenever the queen gave that excuse, nothing else could be said against it. It was true she couldn’t exhaust herself or she might just faint at the most random monts.

"We should be careful with the food," Crown Prince Valen spoke, breaking the brief silence that fell once his sister’s head slightly dropped in disappointnt.

"Why do you say so?" Izabella demanded, glancing at him.

"Well, so poisoning happened in their estate recently. We should be careful that whoever is after them doesn’t try to ss with us as well," Valen sipped on the glass of wine before letting out a soft chuckle. "But who would dare to ss with us?"

Izabella’s eyes widened at Valen’s statent.

"How do you know about that?" She demanded, her voice barely above a whisper.

"I went to pay them a visit."

"Why did you go there?" Izabella gritted her teeth, the frown on her face giving away her anger.

"He is already an adult now. He is also the crown prince of the country. He doesn’t need to report everything to you, Queen," Valerian placed his knife and fork on the plate before wiping his mouth with a handkerchief placed beside his plate.

Izabella mirrored his actions, letting out a deep sigh.

"I will take my leave..." Arisia rose from her seat, bowing to the king, queen, and crown prince.

"Alright. Let’s et soon," Valen smiled gently at his sister who seed to be waiting for approval from their parents which didn’t seem to be happening soon as they were both busy glaring at each other.

Arisia faintly smiled before exiting the dining hall.

"How did your dinner go, Your Highness?" A tall young man demanded, gently leaning closer to the shorter girl.

"Oh, you arrived early, Suyou," she chuckled softly.

Suyou gently nodded, pulling himself away from her.

She began walking without looking behind, and the turquoise-haired man followed silently.

"It went the way it usually goes" she signed. "They said I cannot et my brother because I am sick."

"Then... Why don’t you send him a letter and ask him to pay you a visit with the Grand Duchess?"
