"Are you... alright?.." Cynthia hesitantly asked.

"Why do you ask?"

"I an... your sister just..."

"She isn’t... my sister. She is my half-sister," Lucian corrected, finally locking her gaze with Cynthia.

"But she is still your sister."

She held his hands cupping them between her own. The coldness she felt from them due to the cold that fell at night in Eldoria was no different from the personality she was normally accustod to from him. Deep down she hoped that he would recover from this and that he would go back to being himself. But all she could see was the lifeless Lucian that sat before her. She recalled how he cried at Princess Arisia’s funeral after everyone left in her past life.

Will he cry again? Like in the past?

It was an uncommon sight she had witnessed only once— Lucian crying. But it was also evident to Cynthia how much he loved his sister despite not sharing the sa mother.

As she was lost in thoughts, Cynthia felt a drop fall on her hand. Slowly, another few drops fell, rolling down her hands. She clenched her grip wrapping Lucian’s hands into hers.

She wouldn’t look at his face. She couldn’t. She knew seeing him cry would make her weak before him, even if it wouldn’t happen, she couldn’t risk it. After all, she was doing this for her family, and herself. To avenge the family the Selvarians have ruined in the blink of an eye.

"I knew it was coming. I knew one day she would... But..." Lucian’s voice trembled with each word escaping his mouth. Despite the morning rays beating down on his face through the window, Lucian began to shake as if he were surrounded by ice.

"No one is ever ready to say goodbye to their loved ones." Cynthia sat beside him on the bed, wrapping her arm around him, trying her best to comfort him despite his huge stature.

"We should leave now," Cynthia spoke softly.

Lucian finally steadied himself and rose to his feet. His composure finally returned. However, one thing had changed and Cynthia could notice it at first glance– his gaze had softened.

"You should leave, I’m about to go..."

"Go where?.." Cynthia asked, perplexed.

Not like he can go to the funeral right now. He’d have to at least...

"Ahh yes..." Cynthia nodded and looked for the exit getting up as well. Her help was no longer needed now that it seed the Grand Duke had returned to his normal state.

As she stepped towards the exit, Lucian grabbed her hand, stopping her from leaving his room.

"What is it?" She asked, turning to face him.

"I..." He hesitated for a mont before continuing. "Thank you," he said in a low tone, almost whispering to himself.

Cynthia took one last look at him without saying anything in return and rushed out of the room. This was no different from the last ti he was trying to be nice to her. She wasn’t used to it. It was weird, to say the least.

"You can’t expect to overlook the past after all the nightmares you’ve given , Grand Duke," she whispered, her gaze filled with determination to execute her plans.

***

The golden doors swung open, causing the maids inside the room to jump to their feet, abandoning their tasks and quickly smoothing out their skirts to prepare to address the person who had just entered. The sound of heels tapped against the marble tile. And soon, they gazed up.

"Pack my things, I will be leaving. I will go et with His Majesty, King Alistair, so go and arrange an urgent audience with him right this instant."

"But your Highness... His Majesty just returned to his palace..."

"I will be the one going to his Palace. And I believe I don’t need your opinion," Cynthia glared at the maid.

"I-I apologize."

"Let’s go then," Cynthia ordered, turning her heels towards the exit, followed by a few maids while the others began to pack her bags.

Once arrived at the King’s Palace, the butler guided Cynthia to the audience hall while he went to notify the king of her arrival. After waiting for half an hour, the door slamd open. Her brother rushed into the hall, panting. It was evident he had dropped whatever he had to do to co and et her.

"Did sothing happen?" He asked the frown of worry on his face couldn’t be hidden.

It was an occasional sight Cynthia saw in her brother, who was the most composed person she knew.

"Brother, I am alright. Although... I will be leaving."

Alistair tilted his head to the side, his eyes narrowing as he tried to understand her words, making Cynthia feel as if she had told him a puzzling riddle he needed to solve.

"Her Highness... I an... Princess Arisia of Selvarys has passed away."

Alistair’s eyes widened, a clear confused expression on his face.

"I think not many know of her because she... she was sick," Cynthia lowered her gaze.

"I believe I have heard that na before when I investigated the royal family of Selvarys although ntions of her were not found easily."

"Well... I believe the king kept her inside the palace because of her poor health. Anyhow, I need to leave to attend the funeral. I know you have just finished your wedding... however, I am now..."

Part of Selvarys.

The words wouldn’t co out, hung in her mouth. Was she truly part of Selvarys? It didn’t matter whether she was part of that kingdom or not; Princess Arisia was the only person who never hard her. The least she could do was pay her respects to her now that she was no longer in this world.

"I understand. Duties co first. You are now the only grand Duchess of Selvarys," Alistair smiled softly, placing his hand on her shoulder.

Cynthia nodded in agreent, returning the smile.

"Don’t forget to write to once you have the ti."

"I will make sure," Cynthia rose from the couch, giving a final bow to her brother. "I shall take my leave."

"I hope to see you soon," Alistair spoke softly.

Cynthia turned her heels, exiting the room, while Alistair kept watching her back as her figure faded into the distance.

"My little sister has grown to be just like you, Your Majesty," Alistair glanced at the portrait of Queen Irina seated on the throne beside the king. "I an... mother," he whispered, a soft chuckle escaping his mouth.
