Aitana? Did she just hear that na?

Aria’s eyes locked onto the woman standing before her, gripping a knife stained with Damien’s blood.

The woman tossed the blade aside and whispered, "Even after all these years, I still hate the sight of you."

Aria tightened her hold on the book in her hands. "Who are you?"

The woman looked at her briefly before whispering "Even you can’t open it."

Aria glanced down at the book. "What is this?"

"The most powerful magical artifact in existence," the woman said. "Wolves, witches, and all non-humans want that book. But most believe it’s just a myth."

"So it’s filled with magic spells?" Aria asked, still unsure of its importance.

The woman let out a dark chuckle. "No one knows what’s inside."

Aria scoffed. "Then what makes it so powerful if no one even knows what’s in it?"

Instead of answering, the woman took a step forward. Aria instinctively stepped back.

"Give the book," the woman said, stretching out her hand. "I want to show you sothing."

Aria felt a strong urge to protect it, yet for so reason, she moved forward and placed the book in the woman’s hand. The mont it touched her palm, her skin began to wither, drying and cracking like old parchnt.

"What the—" Aria gasped, unable to finish her sentence. The woman imdiately shoved the book back into Aria hands, and as soon as she let go, her withered hand returned to normal.

She frowned at her hand. "He really was the most powerful sorcerer in the world."

Aria’s heartbeat quickened. "Who?"

"The bastard who wrote that book," the woman said bitterly. "After finishing it, he tied an old man’s bloodline to it, making sure no one outside his lineage could ever access it."

"Why write a book no one can even use?" Aria asked.

The woman shrugged. "He didn’t write it willingly. After consuming a beast made of pure magic and the blood of five mighty Alphas, the power inside him beca overwhelming. He poured most of it into that book and used the rest to bring back his dead mate. All that power, and he wasted it on a worthless girl."

Aria flinched at the harshness in her tone and took a step back.

The woman smirked. "I thought you would be the one to open it. But I was wrong. Which ans my second theory was right."

Aria narrowed her eyes. "What second theory?"

The woman stared at her for a mont before shaking her head. "Never mind. You should tend to your friend."

"You’re just leaving?" Aria asked, confused.

"I only ca to see if you could open the book. Now I understand."

"Understand what?"

The woman expression beca unreadable as she said. "That book has a life of its own. It remains asleep because it hasn’t found its master. The child of the White Wolf will destroy the world. I think I finally understand what that prophecy truly ans."

Before Aria could ask anything else, the woman vanished.

Aria gaze moved to Damien unconscious body and she imdiately rushed to him.

"Damien!"

She rushed to his side, quickly setting the book down. With shaky hands, she tore open his shirt, gasping at the sight of his wound. It was deep—so deep that she could see his flesh. But what scared her most was that it wasn’t healing.

"What do I do?" she whispered, her hands trembling.

She thought about calling Tristan and started to stand up to grab her phone, but before she could move, the red gem on the book cover started to glow.

Aria watched in shock as Damien’s wound slowly began to close. His torn flesh pulled together on its own, and within seconds, the wound was completely gone. As soon as it healed, the glow from the book faded.

Aria stared at it, her heart racing.

Without thinking, she grabbed the book and tried to open it again. But just like before, it wouldn’t budge.

"Aria," Damien murmured weakly as he slowly regained consciousness.

"I’m here," Aria said, her voice filled with relief. "Are you alright?" She gently helped him sit up.

As Damien settled upright, mories of what happened rushed back—being stabbed from behind, the sudden weakness in his body, and the darkness that followed.

His eyes darted to Aria, and panic filled his voice as he grabbed her shoulders. "Are you okay?"

"I’m fine," she assured him.

Before she could say anything else, Damien pulled her into his arms, holding her tightly.

"Damien," Aria said softly, trying to pull away from his embrace, but his arms only tightened around her.

"Just stay like this for a mont," he murmured. "Please, Aria... I’ve missed you so much." His voice was laced with vulnerability, making her pause.

They held each other for a mont before Damien slowly pulled away. His gaze lingered on Aria’s lips, and before he could stop himself, he leaned in and kissed her.

Aria’s eyes widened in shock. Without hesitation, she shoved him away and slapped him hard across the face.

"Have you lost your mind?" she shouted, wiping her lips furiously.

Damien froze, his cheek stinging from the slap. His chest tightened as he watched her wipe her lips in disgust.

"Do you hate it that much?" he asked with a bitter smile.

"Have you forgotten that I’m married?" Aria snapped.

"You’re married to a man who doesn’t even see you as his wife. If he did, he would have marked you by now."

"That’s none of your business," she shot back. "I consider him my husband, and that’s all that matters." She stood up, putting distance between them.

Damien’s eyes shifted to the book lying on the ground and as he was about to reached for it, Aria shouted.

"Don’t!"

Ignoring her, he picked up the book. The mont his fingers touched its cover, his hand began to wither, the skin cracking and drying as if it was aging rapidly.

Damien gasped in horror and Aria quickly snatched the book from him, and as soon as it left his grasp, his hand returned to normal.

Damien stared at it, his breathing uneven. "What the hell just happened?"

Aria sighed and began explaining everything the strange woman had told her about the book.

"So, it will only open when it finds its true master?" Damien asked.

"Yes."

"What are you planning to do with it now?"

"I can’t leave it here. I think I’ll ask Tristan....."

"No." Damien cut her off imdiately.

Aria frowned. "Why not?"

"Tristan is blind, Aria. What if he touches it by accident? You saw what it did to . What if it does worse to him?"

Damien caught a glimpse of hesitation in Aria after he spoke and continued, "I have a safe at my house. No one would know it’s there. Let keep the book, and together, we’ll find its master and uncover its secrets."

He watched her carefully, hoping she would agree. If he had the book under his control, he could find its master first. And once he did, he would turn them into his ally.

With their power, he would beco the strongest Alpha to ever live.
