It was a Saturday, and Aria felt so excited today because Tristan had told her that a cure has finally been found for her grandmother, and also, today is his birthday.
Cole had sent her a ssage that today was his birthday and asked her if she could convince him to have a party at the pack. Aria had agreed to it, and that was one of the reasons she woke up very early today.
After the tir was up, Aria slowly removed her cupcakes from the oven, and while they were cooling, she began preparing the frosting ingredients.
After applying the frosting to the cake, Aria placed nine birthday candles on the cupcake and carried a lighter.
She opened the door to their room and smiled when she saw Tristan still sleeping, but despite this, she began singing the happy birthday song to him.
Tristan slowly opened his eyes when he heard her singing; he sat upright as his eyes slowly changed into a golden hue. Today was his birthday? How did she even know?
Aria sat on the bed close to him and said, "Happy birthday!"
There was still confusion written on Tristan’s face as he asked, "How... It was Cole, wasn’t it?"
Aria nodded. "Yesterday, he sent a ssage that today was your birthday."
"Did he always forget to add the part that I do not care about celebrating it?" Tristan said, glancing at the cupcake.
"You may not care, but I care, and that is the most important thing." Aria replied.
"Wow, so only my wife’s wishes matter?" Tristan asked with a smile.
"Exactly. Now, blow out the candles and don’t forget to make a wish." Aria said and used the lighter to light up all nine candles.
Tristan chuckled and blew the candle but left two. He was about to blow then as well when Aria shouted, "Wait!"
Tristan looked at her and said, "Don’t tell I have to make another wish."
Aria shook her head. "Today is also Zolan’s birthday, right? Why doesn’t he co out and blow the remaining candle?"
"Huh...." Tristan was trying to figure out what he would say when he loudly heard Zolan’s voice.
"There is no way I’m participating in such a childish act."
"You were the one who was dying to see her, but ever since she ca back to us, you have been avoiding her." Tristan replied to his wolf, while still maintaining a smile in front of Aria.
"If you still want to see better, make her give up the idea."
"Are you threatening ? You say it as if you are allowing to use your eyes for free. People complint how kind you are for allowing to use your eyes, but they don’t know what happens to at every full moon."
Zolan scoffed and replied, "Stop whining. I’m not the one who asked you to be born blind in this lifeti."
"You bastard." Tristan said and realized that he just insulted Zolan out loud.
Aria frowned and asked, "Were you fighting with your wolf? Does he not want to see ?"
"No, that’s not...."
"Is it because I’m not his mate?" Aria asked sadly.
Tristan was about to say sothing when he heard Zolan’s voice again.
"Just the candles, and I’m out."
Tristan smiled at Aria and said, "He will do it."
"What..." Aria’s statent was left incomplete as she watched as Tristan’s golden eyes beca darkened and his expression looked kind of fierce. Was this Zolan?
The man before her grumpily blew out the remaining candles without looking at her, but she still told him, "Happy birthday, Zolan."
"Whatever," Zolan replied.
Aria laughed and gently dragged his cheeks as she said, "You look so cute when you act grumpy."
Zolan finally moved his gaze to her, and he held her hand that was on his cheek, caressing his face on her hand, but then the mory of how she had died in his arms returned fresh to him, making him push her hand away and withdraw himself.
Aria was shocked by his reaction, and she knew that he was gone when Tristan’s eyes returned to their bright golden color.
"What’s wrong?" Tristan asked as he noticed Aria looking upset.
"Zolan looked heartbroken. Is it because of Eva’s death?" Aria asked.
Tristan sighed and said, "It has nothing to do with Eva’s death. Zolan hasn’t completely healed from the past."
"What past?"
"Hmmm. Why don’t I tell you about it so other ti?" Tristan said, picking a cupcake and taking a bite of it. He was actually surprised by how sweet the cake was, and the way the frosting lted in his mouth almost made him moan in satisfaction. Why wasn’t his wife a baker?
"Do you like it?"
"Like? I love it," Tristan said, passing the cupcake in his hand to her so she could take a bite. "You should open your own bakery."
Aria laughed and took a bite, and indeed, it tasted just as amazing as he had said. Good thing she paid attention to her grandmother when she was teaching her how to bake; otherwise, how would she have impressed Tristan on this special day?
Tristan’s gaze moved to the little frosting on her lips, and without hesitating, he claid her lips, licking the frosting on it and enjoying the taste of her mouth. He really didn’t care about birthdays, but if every one of his were like this, then maybe he would always look forward to it, but unfortunately, this was going to be his last birthday with her.
Tristan broke their kiss and removed the tray separating them, placing it at the far end of the bed.
"Tristan, wait." Aria whispered; there was sothing she wanted to tell him, but instead of listening to her, he kissed her again.
Aria found herself surrendering to him, and whatever she wanted to tell him escaped her mind. However, the mont she felt his hand entering and rising up her shirt, she imdiately ca to her senses and gently pushed him away.
"I... I need to tell you sothing." Aria said, as she tried to calm down her breath.
Tristan grinned and asked, "Is whatever you want to tell more important than the reward I was going to give you?"
"Reward?" Aria asked, confused, but the mischievous grin spreading across his face told her exactly what he had in mind.
Tristan laughed the mont she beca flustered and asked, "Fine. Say it."
Aria took in a deep breath to calm herself before saying, "Cole said the pack has planned a birthday party for you, and they would love it if you attended."
"Since when did you beco Cole’s spokeswoman?" Tristan asked with a frown. "Anyway, I’m not going. I have told them repeatedly not to waste their ti on such rubbish."
""But I want to go."
"Aria."
"Ever since we got married, I haven’t been to your pack, and this is the perfect opportunity for to be introduced to them."
"You might end up feeling overwheld by them, so it’s not a good idea."
"Or is it that they won’t accept as their Luna?" Aria asked. Hailey’s word was starting to get to her. What if this is the main reason Tristan does not wish to take her to his pack?
"They will love you, and that goes without question."
"Then let’s go. It will just be for a night, and we will co back the next day." Aria said, and when she saw Tristan hesitating, she brought her hands together and said, "Please, say yes."
"One night and we are back."
"Yes!" Aria shouted and hugged him.
Tristan chuckled as he wrapped his hand around her, but his mind was still troubled. Perhaps if Aria had a wolf, then he wouldn’t be this worried. A wolfless girl in a pack filled with wolves that loved strength—would she be able to cope?
A lot of his people would respect her, but he knew that there would also be so who would show disdain to her, and that is sothing he can never allow. Should he just kill anyone who disrespects her? Yes, that seems like a perfect solution.
A phone rang, interrupting their mont, and seeing it was Cole who was calling, Tristan said, "I need to answer this." He needed to know why Cole told his wife of a stupid birthday party.
"Ok. I will keep the cakes in the fridge; you can have them anyti you want." Aria said, and then she suddenly rembered sothing: "Tristan, can I also invite Hailey to the party? Please say yes."
"Yes, you can." Tristan answered the call as he gave her his reply.
"Thank you." Aria said and kissed his cheek and was about to leave when Tristan collected one more cupcake from the tray before allowing her to leave.
The mont the door closed, Tristan’s smile left his face as he placed the phone on his ear, ready to scold Cole, when he said.
"The Elders have called you for questioning."
"They can go screw themselves." Tristan replied without a care in the world. When it cos to the Elders, his only business is Noelle, and until he has her right where he wants her to be, he has nothing to do with the Elders.
