Augustine stepped back and turned to Jeanne. "Now you know the whole truth. Do you still bla Anne?"
Jeanne hung her head down, sha and fury twisting her face.
"You accused my wife without knowing the truth," he said with righteous fury. "You slapped her in front of everyone. Don’t you think you owe her an apology?"
"What?" Jeanne stiffened, her eyes narrowing with a mix of fury and disbelief. "You want to apologize to her?"
"Why not?" he countered. "You humiliated her. You falsely accused her in public. You must apologize."
Jeanne scoffed, her voice rising. "You... You’re blaming now? She had that video. She could’ve shown it earlier. But no, she waited until tonight—just to disgrace us in front of all these people. Don’t pretend this wasn’t intentional."
"I don’t need your apology, especially if it’s insincere." Anne stepped forward, her face calm but her eyes blazing. "But listen carefully. I’m done accepting false accusations. This isn’t the first ti it has happened to , but it will be the last."
She pointed at Tania. "Since the day she returned from abroad, she has been scheming against , framing for things I never did, poisoning minds just to paint herself as the victim. All of it... for sympathy. And why? Because she believes I want Denis. Let make this clear: I have no relationship with him. I never did."
Anne’s words struck Denis like lightning.
He stood frozen, fists clenched, jaw tight.
Anne was not completely wrong. He had told her to keep their relationship in the shadows. Now he couldn’t speak up. All he could do was watch her helplessly, silently drowning in the guilt.
"She had him," she continued, her voice steady with the weight of bitter truths. Her eyes swept across the crowd, then rested on Denis. "He was by her side, caring for her, valuing her. Yet instead of finding peace, her jealousy toward only grew. She beca more and more insecure despite knowing that I got married to Augustine. And her insecurity led us to this chaos tonight."
She turned her gaze to Jeanne, addressing her, "I didn’t co here to create a scene. I thought the truth should be handled within the family. But she didn’t give that chance. She tried to fra again."
Then Anne turned her piercing gaze on Tania. "Why?" she asked, her voice sharp with restrained emotion. "Why do you hate this much? I don’t want Denis. I’m married to Augustine, and I’m happy. What more do you want?"
Tania’s face twisted in rage, her eyes bloodshot. "You ruined ," she spat. "You destroyed everything I had with Denis. I’ll never forgive you."
Then, in one terrifying mont, she lunged. From behind her back, she drew a small knife and charged at Anne with blind fury.
Gasps echoed through the hall.
Augustine sprang forward with lightning speed, intercepting her with precision. He seized her wrist mid-air and twisted it with brutal force.
Tania cried out in pain as the weapon clattered to the floor.
Augustine shoved her back. "Enough," he growled. "Hand her to the police."
Gustave stepped in, grabbing Tania firmly by both arms as she struggled, her screams echoing with desperation.
"Let go of ." Panic surged in her voice. "Denis, please... Help . You can’t let them do this to —I’m your fiancée."
Denis turned slowly, his gaze dark and unrecognizable. "Fiancée?" he echoed, his tone razor-sharp, laced with fury. "You don’t deserve that title."
In one swift move, he stepped forward and grabbed her by the throat, forcing her to look into the storm of rage in his eyes. "I gave you everything," he growled. "I trusted you, protected you, loved you... And you repaid with lies and sches. You think after all that, you still have the right to call yourself my fiancée?"
Anne watched the scene unfold, a bitter smirk curling on her lips. The sight of Denis’s heartbreak mirrored the pain he had once inflicted on her. At that mont, it felt like justice had finally co full circle.
And as for Tania, Anne’s eyes narrowed. The betrayal ran deeper than just tonight. In her past life, she had died because of her. This punishnt wasn’t enough. Tania deserved every ounce of pain and more.
Denis yanked the engagent ring from his finger and flung it across the floor. "It’s over," he said coldly. "This engagent is finished. And you," he shoved her with disgust, sending her crashing to the floor, "you’ll pay for everything."
He turned away.
"Denis, you can’t do this to ," Tania pleaded, her voice cracking as she tried one last ti to appeal to his heart. "You love . We’ve been together for years..."
But before she could utter another word, a sharp slap landed on her cheek. The force of it whipped her head to the side, leaving her stunned. Her cheek burned, and her eyes welled with tears. Slowly, she turned her head and t Jeanne’s blazing eyes.
"Say one more word," Jeanne hissed, "and I’ll tear your tongue out."
Her venomous glare pinned Tania in place. "A filthy woman like you has no place in this family. You dare cast your wicked eyes on my son again, and I’ll gouge those eyes out myself."
Tania clenched her jaw, her body trembling with suppressed rage and humiliation. She wanted to scream, to fight back, to spit venom right back in Jeanne’s face, but she didn’t.
Not here. Not now. She would wait.
"Take her away," Jeanne snapped.
Gustave dragged Tania toward the exit. Behind them, other guards escorted the disgraced doctor and the light man. The room watched in silence as the three were led out.
Tania didn’t resist. Her face, streaked with tears and fury, twisted into sothing dark and dangerous.
’I’ll return,’ she vowed silently. ’And when I do, every one of you will pay.’
Inside the hall...
"Ladies and gentlen," Dimitri finally approached and spoke after a long silence. "Sorry for what happened here. At the sa ti, I am relieved that no one is hurt. The perpetrator is finally exposed and sent to the police. Thank you for coming here tonight. The party is over. Everyone, please leave."
All the guests started to leave one by one.
"Augustine and Anne, co with ," Dimitri said. "I need to talk to you." He turned and walked away.
