Robert, seeing Selina stand there without moving, instinctively raised his voice. "Where’s the money?!"

A glint of coldness flashed in Selina’s eyes.

When she looked up again, the iciness was gone, replaced by a cautious deanor. She pulled a $100 bill from her bag. "This is all I have..."

Robert imdiately grew furious. He scrambled to his feet and smacked the bill onto the ground with a loud *slap*.

"Selina, what kind of attitude is this?! I ask you for money, and you give a asly hundred bucks? Are you trying to insult like I’m so beggar?!"

Selina lowered her voice and asked, "Then... how much do you want?"

Hearing this, Robert thought to himself that she was easy to manipulate. Without hesitation, he demanded, "Oh, just five hundred thousand dollars should do!"

Selina instinctively took a step back. "But I don’t have that kind of money..."

Robert’s expression darkened imdiately. Overco with rage, he shouted, "No money?! Everyone, look at this! My niece has such a cruel heart. She spends lavishly on herself but won’t spare a penny for her family!"

Evelyn joined in, throwing a tantrum and shouting loudly. "Are you just going to watch your uncle and starve to death? We care so much about you, and you repay us by being an ungrateful wretch!"

The onlookers turned their attention to Selina.

With her stunning appearance and elegant deanor, coupled with the fact that she’d just walked out of a luxury boutique, she hardly looked like soone who only had $100 to her na.

A few people frowned.

"Miss, don’t go too far," one said.

"Exactly. He’s your uncle. If your family’s struggling, how can you just stand there and do nothing?" added another.

Hearing the murmurs, Robert grew even more emboldened. "She’s been eating and living off us for so long! What’s wrong with asking her for a little money to show so respect?!"

Evelyn wailed dramatically. "Exactly! We raised you to this point for nothing! You’re heartless!"

More people began pointing and whispering, making it seem as though Selina was the most unfilial person alive.

Selina suddenly lifted her head, her previously calm expression now replaced with one of grievance.

"Uncle, if I had money, I’d definitely give it to you. But all I have is this $100—it’s just what I earned from my part-ti job earlier."

The crowd fell silent, surprised.

Could it be that this niece wasn’t as unreasonable as they thought?

Robert was montarily stunned by Selina’s response. Before he could react, Selina took a timid step forward, looking pitiful.

"I’m still a student, and I really don’t have money to give you. In fact, I’m short $2,000 for this sester’s tuition. Uncle, could you lend $2,000 for my fees? I promise I’ll work hard and repay you!"

Robert hadn’t expected to get countered with a request for money. His face flushed with anger, and his head felt like it was about to explode. "You’re asking for money?!"

Selina replied calmly, "Is there a problem? You’re my elder. I haven’t graduated yet. Isn’t it normal to ask family for help with tuition?"

Evelyn, seeing Selina’s attitude, snapped. Without thinking, she lashed out, "You little brat! Are you trying to scam us? Who do you think you are, you worthless wretch?!"

The onlookers froze, startled by Evelyn’s outburst.

Wasn’t this a bit... too shaless?

Selina’s lips curled into a faint smile as she feigned confusion. "Auntie, why are you insulting ? If you truly cared about , why would you only ask for money—and such a large sum of five hundred thousand dollars? I’m just a student. Even if I scrimped and saved, I couldn’t possibly co up with that much."

"But when I ask you for just $2,000 to cover my tuition—sothing a ’caring’ elder would surely help with—you call a wretch?"

As soon as Selina finished speaking, the murmurs around them erupted.

"Is this really her uncle? All he cares about is money?"

"How could they insult her like that? She’s a student—how could she have five hundred thousand dollars?"

Robert’s face turned red with rage as he stamred angrily, "Stop spouting nonsense! You’ve got plenty of money in your account, and you know it!"

"Yes, I do have a large sum of money," Selina said, her eyes suddenly welling up with tears. "But it’s my mother’s inheritance. I can’t bear to use it myself—why should I give it to you?"

"You’re rely the brother and sister-in-law of my stepmother. By blood, you’re not even my real uncle and aunt. Yet out of respect, I’ve treated you as elders. Why do you act this way?"

The brother and sister-in-law of her stepmother? Her biological mother’s inheritance?

The weight of Selina’s words stunned the crowd. So, Selina’s mother had passed away, and she was now living under her stepmother’s roof?

Robert’s face turned crimson. He fud silently, furious that Selina was pretending to be pitiful. She was acting—how could no one see through it?

"Selina, shut your mouth!"

Evelyn couldn’t stand the judgntal gazes from the onlookers. She shrieked like a madwoman and charged at Selina, yelling, "You little wretch! Katie told —"

But before she could finish, a startled exclamation rang out from the crowd.

"Katie? Isn’t that Mrs. Clark?"

Selina’s na wasn’t well-known in high society, but Katie’s was—

The second wife of Jas Clark, infamous for her rise to power as a howrecker, bringing along her illegitimate daughter.

Which ant this middle-aged couple was Katie’s brother and sister-in-law!

"I heard Katie just bought Natalia a necklace worth over ten million. Why is the Clark Family’s eldest daughter working a part-ti job?"

"A howrecker who mistreated the original wife’s daughter, then had her daughter support her brother? That’s outrageous!"

"Didn’t you hear? Robert clearly wants to get his hands on the original wife’s inheritance!"

"Shaless, absolutely shaless!"

Panic overtook Robert, and he roared angrily, "You little brat! You and your mother are both wretches! Just wait—I’ll deal with you!"

Evelyn’s face twisted grotesquely. Thanks to Katie, she’d lived comfortably for years and had never been publicly humiliated like this.

"Selina, I’m going to teach you a lesson today! You bastard with no mother to raise you! I’m Mrs. Clark’s sister-in-law, and you’re asking for it!"

Evelyn charged at Selina, but before she could even touch her, she tripped and fell to the ground.

Selina stood tall, looking down at her. "Mrs. Clark? Listen carefully—there is only one rightful Mrs. Clark, and that’s my mother, Victoria! Evelyn, every piece of jewelry and luxury you flaunt ca from my mother. Who gave you the right to shout at here?"

Evelyn scrambled back, screaming, "Selina, you’re lying! My money cos from Katie! Your mother is dead—what does any of this have to do with her?"

As the crowd grew larger, Selina’s smile turned colder.

"All of your food, clothes, and luxuries ca from my mother. Katie hasn’t spent a single penny of her own. Do you understand what I’m saying?"

Evelyn’s gaze darted around nervously, her panic evident. She raised her voice in a desperate attempt to cover her guilt.

"Your mother was the mistress! You and your mother are the real howreckers! Shaless wretches! You both should’ve died—your mother and you, that short-lived wretch!"

Selina’s eyes turned ice-cold in an instant.

Robert, seemingly emboldened by so thought, straightened his posture and smirked.

"Selina, you haven’t even gotten all of your mother’s inheritance yet. I suggest you get on your knees and apologize to . Maybe then I’ll have a word with my sister and convince her to go easy on you. Otherwise, you can wait to face punishnt under the family’s rules!"
