Riley dug her nails into her palms so hard it hurt.

She had to endure this... She’d been too impatient. The timing wasn’t right yet. For now, she could only endure it.

Forcing a strained smile, Riley said, "Logan, I understand."

Then she turned to Selina, voice gentle. "Selina, I’m really sorry. I promise this won’t happen again. I truly see you as a friend."

Selina raised an eyebrow. She hadn’t expected Riley to be this good at swallowing her pride.

Having made his point, Logan took Selina’s hand and led her out.

Once they were in the car and seated, he glanced at her. "Feeling better now?"

Selina choked slightly. "What do you an? Just because I got to put your childhood sweetheart in her place, I’m supposed to be in a good mood? What do you think I am, petty?"

Logan didn’t respond right away. He glanced at her, slow and aningful. No words needed.

Selina’s cheeks turned red under that look.

Why did it feel like all her little thoughts had been seen through? And wait—Rowan!

She quickly pulled out her phone, worried Rowan might misunderstand sothing about Logan. She typed in a rush:

[I take it back. My husband is incredibly faithful!]

Two beeps sounded in the quiet car. Logan’s phone lit up. He glanced at it and casually tapped the screen.

"Spam," he said.

"Oh." Selina didn’t think much of it and went back to her email.

Rowan: [So you misunderstood him? Why would you think that? Is he usually like that?]

Selina flushed. Was she really discussing her marriage with a forty-sothing-year-old man?

Still, Rowan was Logan’s friend. As a wife, it was only right to defend her husband’s character.

She typed: [Of course not! My husband is great!]

Logan’s phone dinged again. This ti, he actually chuckled.

Selina frowned. "What are you reading?"

"Still spam," Logan replied smoothly.

She narrowed her eyes. "You get a lot of spam?"

"Apparently." Logan sounded far too pleased with himself.

"Jack must be slacking. Why does your private number even get spam?"

Logan nodded calmly. "Dock his bonus tomorrow."

"...You’re unbelievable," Selina muttered.

Then, another email ca in.

Rowan: [I’ve always been curious—why did you marry Logan?]

Selina froze. How the hell was she supposed to answer that?

Their marriage had started from a case of mistaken identity. She’d married Logan to get revenge on Ryan, to reclaim her mother’s inheritance. It had been a calculated move, nothing more.

The car grew quiet. Logan’s expression darkened when no reply ca for a long ti.

He was just about to change the subject—

When suddenly, a new ssage popped up.

[Because I like him.]

Selina had typed: [I like him. That’s why I wanted to be with him.]

Logan’s lips curved upward. He couldn’t stop the smile that spread across his face.

Selina, anwhile, noticed there was no reply. And Logan’s phone had stopped receiving "spam."

As they got out of the car, she glanced over and saw a new ssage. She tapped to open it.

Rowan: [Logan said the sa. He fell for you at first sight.]

The ssage hit her like a wave. Her vision blurred as if the sky had dropped a trap right onto her.

Logan fell for her at first sight?

How did Rowan know that?

Did he guess? Or... had he actually asked Logan?

After the initial shock faded, Selina felt a strange, shy warmth rise in her chest.

She was texting a man twenty years older than her about love—there was just sothing weird about that.

She took a deep breath, trying to sound lighthearted:

[Thank you. Didn’t expect you to still be so sentintal at your age, Senior.]

Logan’s face darkened instantly. He nearly crushed his phone.

At his age?

Who’s old, exactly?!

Selina gave him a weird look. Wasn’t he just in a great mood a second ago? Why did he suddenly look so gloomy?

n... truly impossible to read.

...

A few days later, Selina received a formal apology gift from the Nelson Family.

Riley had handwritten a letter, claiming she’d been spoiled all her life, and hadn’t thought carefully about her actions.

She wrote that Logan’s scolding had made her reflect deeply, and she hoped Selina could forgive her.

Attached was sothing even more interesting—a repost from Angelica’s Twitter.

In the post, Angelica admitted she was the long-lost daughter of the Morris Family and that she had a prior engagent to Logan.

The comnt section was a dumpster fire, full of people accusing Selina of stealing soone else’s husband.

But Riley had reposted with a caption:

[Even if Angelica has a previous engagent with Logan, what does that have to do with Selina? Never mind whether that engagent was even legally binding—right now, Logan is happily married to Selina. So who’s really trying to ruin a marriage here?]

Unsurprisingly, that post got her flad for a full 24 hours.

And just an hour ago, soone had dug up Riley’s background:

"Riley? Isn’t she the eldest daughter of the Nelson Family? I think her brother Hunter is close friends with Logan."

"I don’t care who she is. Supporting a howrecker makes you just as trashy!"

"Please. Anyone who’s friends with Selina? Can’t be a good person."

"I heard Riley’s studio is on ZY Street. Let’s go ’teach her a lesson.’"

Selina frowned and tapped into another post.

Riley’s studio had been splashed with paint and forced to shut down.

Twitter was now a ss—so users were hurling insults, others sympathizing, saying Riley had only defended Selina and ended up paying the price for it.

But nobody doubted one thing: Riley and Selina were friends.

There were even a few touching comnts.

"No matter what kind of person Selina is, I’m jealous she has a friend like this."

Selina narrowed her eyes.

A good friend, huh?

She didn’t buy it.

She didn’t believe that Riley, who had just been trying to screw her over days ago, had suddenly turned into so noble warrior willing to take the hit for her.

But she had to admit—this was a smart move.

Even Luke called her up to shout into the phone, "Selina, you legend! Even Riley wants to be your friend now? Your charm’s on another level!"

"Angelica couldn’t get to you, so she took it out on Riley instead—and Riley just took it silently. That’s what I call real, ride-or-die friendship!"

Selina: "..."

Seriously, who raised Luke to be such a naive marshmallow?
