Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' Chapter 27: The Overconfident Cousin
Selina’s expression stiffened.
Sensing that Logan was testing her, she imdiately blinked and shyly lowered her head.
"Mr. Reid, what are you talking about? Do you really think I’m such a petty person?" she said softly.
"Emily wanted to hit , so I had White handle her. Of course, I’m already satisfied with that."
Logan ignored her words.
If he hadn’t arrived just in ti, Mrs. Reid would have likely taken matters into her own hands for revenge.
At that mont, Butler Miller hurried over, anxiously explaining, "Sir, Madam wanted to design a small garden here. It was my fault for allowing Mrs. White and her daughter to exploit the opportunity. Madam, I’m sorry you had to endure this."
Selina waved her hand modestly. "Thank you, Butler Miller. Fortunately, Mr. Reid ca in ti. I’m fine."
Logan’s gaze flickered, and he chuckled lightly.
Endure hardship? Butler Miller was overthinking it.
Selina would never endure hardship—not her.
Once Selina returned to her room, Butler Miller imdiately reported, "Sir, Katie’s niece, Avery Bryant, has arrived in City A. Shall we proceed with your plan?"
Logan replied coldly, "Execute it."
"Yes, sir."
...
The next morning, Selina had just woken up when her phone rang.
"Selina, I’m in City A! Co shopping with !"
Selina held the phone at arm’s length and raised an eyebrow at the caller ID.
The caller was Katie’s niece, Avery, who had once stayed with the Clark family for a short ti. During that period, Avery had completely acted as if she were the true heiress of the Clark family, disregarding Selina entirely.
Out of respect for her grandfather, Selina had entertained Avery a few tis. But Avery had taken advantage of her hospitality, treating her as a pushover.
And now, she was back?
Selina’s eyes glead with intrigue. Avery probably thought she was still the sa naïve, soft-hearted girl to be manipulated.
With that thought, Selina headed to her walk-in closet and chose outfits Logan had prepared for her.
Every piece was a limited-edition luxury item, nearly impossible to acquire. She picked out a few dazzling accessories and carried an expensive handbag.
Logan was in the living room, reviewing docunts on the couch. When he saw her dressed up, his brows lifted slightly.
After Selina left, the man’s smile deepened as he spoke softly, "Looks like it’s Avery who invited her."
Jack, hearing that tone, knew trouble was brewing and shuddered.
"Sir, if you want to stand up for Madam, you could just destroy the Clark family outright. Why go through all this trouble?"
Logan replied indifferently, "Because my wife’s hands must stay clean. No gossip, no complications. As for the Clark family? Let them tear each other apart."
...
An hour later, outside the mall.
Avery, already impatient, wore a dark expression.
Selina had said she was on her way, yet Avery had been waiting here for ages. Was this deliberate?
A Clark family daughter who wasn’t even favored, treated worse than herself—where did she get the audacity to dawdle?
Just as Avery angrily picked up her phone to call, a luxury car pulled up in front of her.
Selina stepped out of the car.
She was dressed in an elegant designer gown, sparkling jewelry, and carried a bag that Avery had seen at an auction—it was worth millions.
Avery clenched her fists tightly, hiding the resentnt in her eyes, and forced a friendly smile.
"Selina, you’re here!"
Who knows who this woman managed to latch onto to wear such expensive brands? Avery thought. The outfit alone was worth tens of millions—surely, she wasn’t short on money.
Feigning innocence, Avery hinted, "Selina, it’s been so long since we’ve seen each other. Don’t you have a gift for ? Co on, you have to make it up to . That bag of yours looks perfect!"
Selina suddenly raised her eyebrows and turned to Avery.
Her gaze was cold and sharp, no longer the warm and cautious deanor of the past. It made Avery’s heart skip a beat.
But in the next mont, Selina smiled and nodded. "You want a gift? Sure. But it seems you’ve never given one either. Friends should exchange gifts, don’t you think?"
Avery’s expression froze. "Oh, co on, I was just joking! Don’t take it seriously. Let’s go check out that brand clothing store!"
She swore silently to milk every penny out of Selina today.
After all, Natalia had said that Selina had no real friends. Avery was doing her a favor by being her only friend—Selina ought to bow down in gratitude.
In the past, whatever Avery said, Selina would agree to without hesitation.
Selina pretended not to notice the greed in Avery’s eyes. "Alright, let’s go."
The two arrived at the brand clothing store, where the sales staff imdiately noticed Selina’s luxurious outfit. Recognizing a high-profile custor, they quickly called for the store manager.
The manager greeted her with an ingratiating smile. "Miss, please have a seat and relax for a mont. We’re preparing coffee for you. Is there anything that catches your eye?"
Avery, watching the scene, felt her chest tighten with envy. How could this motherless wench still have so much money? All that wealth should belong to her!
Selina’s lips curved faintly. She had intentionally worn such expensive clothes for this very mont.
Feigning nonchalance, she replied lazily, "Oh, I’m not here to shop. My friend is the one who wants to buy sothing. Please assist her."
The manager finally turned to Avery. Though her attire was far less impressive than Selina’s and her deanor lacked refinent, the manager assud she must be capable of paying, given their association.
The manager personally escorted Avery around the store.
Over the years, Katie had regularly sent money to her brother, allowing Avery to live an extravagantly comfortable life—more so than the typical daughter of a corporate family. Naturally, she scoffed at ordinary clothes.
Determined to fleece Selina, Avery picked out every dress that caught her eye and had them brought over.
Selina glanced at the collection. The dresses in this boutique were all priced upwards of 200,000 yuan, and Avery had selected more than a dozen. She was certainly bold.
"Selina, I think all these dresses are beautiful. Don’t you agree?" Avery hinted blatantly, expecting Selina to foot the bill.
Selina humd. "If you like them, have them wrapped up."
Avery’s heart leapt with excitent, a sneer hidden behind her composed expression. What a fool. No wonder Aunt Katie and Sister Natalia said she was so easy to manipulate.
Encouraged, Avery made a grand gesture. "I’ll take all of them. Wrap them up!"
The manager bead with delight, personally packing up the dresses and respectfully bringing over the card machine. "Miss, please swipe your card."
Avery imdiately turned to Selina. Normally, Selina would pay willingly to reassure Grandpa Clark, but this ti, a minute passed, and Selina remained motionless.
The atmosphere grew awkward. The manager gently prompted again, "Miss Bryant, if you don’t have your card with you, we also accept checks."
Avery’s face flushed red, her frustration mounting. She snapped at Selina, "What are you doing, standing there? Hurry up and pay!"
How dare she hesitate, leaving Avery humiliated! She’d make Selina pay for this later.
Selina, sensing her prey had taken the bait, feigned confusion and blinked innocently.
"Huh? I didn’t buy anything. Why would I pay?"
