Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' Chapter 253: A Betrothal Made in Childhood
Chairman Morris had a late wife and a daughter who had been lost for years—this wasn’t a secret. Logan had heard whispers of it too.
But the Morris heiress turned out to be Angelica?
"Sir, a call from Chairman Morris," Jack said, handing him the phone.
Logan narrowed his eyes. He paused before answering.
"Mr. Reid," Joe Morris’s calm and refined voice ca through the line. "I wonder if you still rember the jade pendant in your possession? That was the token of our agreent back in the day between you and the Morris Family."
Logan’s gaze darkened imdiately.
Joe continued, "There’s an antique exhibition tomorrow. I hope you’ll attend. We have much to discuss."
...
Sapphire Valley Villa.
Angelica was dominating the trending list. Nearly the entire Twitter feed had been flooded with her na.
Already a popular celebrity, now with the added identity of a top-tier heiress, Angelica had instantly beco the envy of the nation.
Selina stared at the comnts blankly:
[Can I just say, Angelica is literally a runaway heiress. No cap.]
[Thought she was just the adopted daughter of the Clarks—turns out she’s the legit heiress of the Morris Family?!]
[Selina must be so embarrassed now. She thought Angelica was a nobody. Turns out she’s the real-deal princess.]
[Katie said she found Angelica abandoned, and took her in out of kindness.]
[Mrs. Bryant must be an angel.]
Selina narrowed her eyes and dial a number. "Run a background check on Angelica."
Katie wasn’t exactly the charitable type. Would soone like her really raise another woman’s daughter out of kindness?
Before she could think further, her phone rang. Selina glanced at the caller ID—and raised a brow.
Speak of the devil. Angelica.
"Little sister," Angelica said sweetly, "I just wanted to apologize for everything I did to you in the past."
She let out a dramatic sigh. "Back then, I thought we were rivals—both going after Clark Group. That’s why I... well, sent soone after you. But surely, you won’t hold that against , will you?"
"But now things are different. I’m part of the Morris Family. I’ve got a stake in Morris Group. Clark Group? It’s too small for . You can have it."
Selina’s tone turned dry. "I’d suggest a neurology check. You’re not just ugly—you’re delusional too."
Angelica gritted her teeth but quickly shifted gears again, smugness returning to her voice.
"Selina dear, there’s an antique gala tomorrow night. Chairman Morris—oh sorry, my father—is gifting a rare piece so I can show it off in front of all the big nas. You’ll be there, right?"
"It’s a rare opportunity. And since you’re still technically my sister, I thought I’d extend the invite. Maybe you’ll et soone else worth marrying. You know, for when Logan eventually dumps you."
Selina smiled coldly. "Yeah, you’re right. This kind of chance doesn’t co often. But you should keep it for yourself."
"After all, if Chairman Morris ever finds out you’re not actually his daughter and kicks you out, you’ll need a backup plan."
"You—" Angelica’s voice faltered, panic rising. "Selina, don’t push it. There’s a secret about Victoria being revealed at the gala. I’m warning you."
Click. She hung up.
Selina sat still, her gaze sharp.
A secret about Mom?
Then no matter what, she had to go.
...
New Year’s Eve. At Sapphire Valley Villa, the staff had already started prepping drinks and dinner for a cozy countdown celebration.
Logan wasn’t back yet. As Selina ca downstairs, she overheard the maids whispering excitedly:
"Did you hear? Mr. Reid was once engaged to Miss Angelica!"
"The rumor ca from Young Master Morris himself—it’s definitely not fake. From what I hear, the Morris Family wants Mr. Reid to marry Miss Angelica. I an, it was arranged by their elders. As juniors, how could they go against it?"
"But Mr. Reid is already married..."
"That’s easy—he can just get a divorce."
"Everyone knows Miss Angelica once saved Mr. Reid’s life, and now there’s even a marriage pact. And Selina? Who does she think she is? Does she really think she’s Mrs. Reid?"
"Look—speak of the devil, that shaless vixen is coming down the stairs."
The maids all turned to look at Selina.
A few exchanged glances, their eyes filled with contempt.
The one in front wore expensive jewelry and designer clothes—clearly not just any maid.
"Madam, no offense, but if you go out now and ask around, everyone’s talking about Mr. Reid’s engagent to Miss Angelica. And you? You’re nothing more than the woman who stole another woman’s fiancé."
Selina froze. Logan... engaged to Angelica?
"Of course you’re different. You grew up without a mother. No sha, no manners. Even now, when the Morris Family has officially co forward, you still won’t step aside. You wanna be the laughingstock? Fine. But don’t drag Mr. Reid’s reputation down with you!"
Selina glanced at the woman, confirming she’d never seen her before. She let out a cold laugh.
"You don’t need to worry about that. If Logan’s fine with being a disgrace, who are you to stick your nose into your employer’s marriage? What are you, the God of Gossip?"
"You... you vile little thing! Is that how you talk to your elders?" the maid shouted.
Selina raised a brow. "Oh? And you must be which long-lost ’elder’ of Logan’s?"
"You little—! I work for Madam! You dare speak to like that?!"
The maid had been sent by Alia. She’d heard about the longstanding engagent between the Perry and Morris families—Logan’s arranged marriage. It was only a matter of ti before Angelica replaced Selina.
And since Angelica hated Selina, this maid had decided to cozy up to the soon-to-be "new lady of the house."
She sneered.
"Look at you. First Mr. Carter tossed you aside, now you’ve latched onto Mr. Reid. And even now, knowing he has a fiancée, you still won’t let go!"
"Oh, right—I forgot. Your mother was just as shaless. She ca between Katie and Mr. Clark. Died young? She deserved it. Why don’t you—"
SMACK.
A loud slap silenced the room. Everyone stared in disbelief.
Selina calmly retracted her hand. "If you can’t talk like a human, maybe you shouldn’t be let out in public. You’re too old to be this stupid. Keep running your mouth, and you’ll go straight to hell."
Dead silence.
"You... you—"
The maid was stunned, but after a couple seconds, she exploded: "You bitch! You hit ?! I’ll have Madam end you!"
Selina smirked. "I slapped Alia once. You think I’d hesitate with you?"
The maid was shaking with rage. This brat had actually slapped her—and now had the nerve to act proud? She needed to teach her a lesson, maybe even brag about it to Miss Angelica later.
"Selina! You lowlife! How dare you speak that way? Soon, Miss Angelica will be the real mistress of Sapphire Valley Villa! And you? You’re nothing—get down on your knees! Kneel!"
She charged forward, raising her hand to slap Selina—
"Who are you telling to kneel?"
A cold, razor-sharp voice cut through the chaos.
Selina froze.
She turned around—and locked eyes with Logan.
