Selina spoke softly, "Of course. I was so sad I cried."

Logan looked at her lazily, a hint of amusent in his eyes. "If you’re so sad, how co I don’t see a single tear?"

Selina’s expression froze for a mont. After a long pause, she casually tucked her hair behind her ear. "Mr. Reid, haven’t you heard? When grief reaches a certain point, you can’t cry anymore."

The man let out a low chuckle, eyes dropping lazily. "The injury’s on my chest, Mrs. Reid. Try not to give yourself away."

Selina suddenly realized she was lying across his chest. "..."

She scrambled up and took a step back. "Don’t worry, I’m a professional when it cos to acting."

Just then, angry footsteps echoed from outside the door.

Alia barged into the courtyard with a group of people. She looked down at Logan with a sneer. "Logan, you co ho and imdiately upset your father. Do you have any manners at all? He’s getting old—can’t you just give in a little?"

Selina narrowed her eyes, feeling like soone had lit a string of firecrackers in her chest. Her temper flared almost instantly, impossible to contain.

She put on a sorrowful face. "Logan, I told you we shouldn’t have co to the Reid Family. You treat them like family, but they clearly don’t feel the sa. You ca ho and got beaten by your own father, and your mother doesn’t even feel bad. She’s telling you to just take it. I can’t stand it."

"Maybe you should get a DNA test—what if there’s been a mistake?"

Everyone’s expression shifted.

Alia shouted, "Selina! Who said you could interrupt when I’m talking to Logan?!"

Selina blinked innocently. "Oops, sorry, Mrs. Reid. Did I hit a nerve? Don’t be mad. I was just speaking up for Logan. I an, what kind of father beats his son the mont he walks through the door?"

Alia was livid. "And you have the nerve to speak up?! If Logan had just behaved and gone back to the Carter Family, none of this would’ve happened! Whose fault is that?!"

The courtyard fell quiet.

Selina let out a laugh, sharp and cold. "Back to the Carter Family?"

"What is Logan, so royal princess? You only value him now because he’s the bridge to your deal with them? What century are we living in that you’re still trying to sell off your own son?"

The comparison made several people’s faces burn red. Alia clenched her teeth. "He’s part of the Carter Family. It’s only right he goes back to fulfill his duty..."

Selina interrupted coldly, "When Mrs. Perry abandoned Logan at six months old, did she ever think he’d co back one day?"

Silence fell like a curtain.

Selina added nonchalantly, "Guess not. That’s probably why you all felt justified giving everything to Owen. Otherwise, Mrs. Perry wouldn’t have worked so hard to send Logan back to the Carter Family as soon as he ca ho."

Logan’s face remained calm, as if nothing Alia said could stir him.

But Selina’s heart ached.

She raised an eyebrow and said slowly, "Logan was only with the Carters for three years, and that was enough for Mrs. Perry to say he belongs to them. But Owen has actual biological parents. Why hasn’t Mrs. Perry asked for him to go back to his birth parents?"

"What happened to that whole ’filial duty’ thing?"

Alia’s face darkened. "Shut your mouth!"

"Oh? So you get to do it, but I’m not allowed to call it out?" Selina’s tone was icy. "Mrs. Perry, you’ve been spreading rumors and pushing Logan endlessly just so he’ll hand Reid Group over to Owen."

"He won’t give in, so you hit him. If Owen still can’t get what he wants... what’s next? You’ll kill Logan for it?"

Everyone lowered their heads. The butlers and maids didn’t dare say a word.

Selina’s words... were lethal.

Alia, used to a life of privilege where no one ever defied her, was so furious from Selina’s verbal onslaught that she felt dizzy and breathless. Her face turned an ugly shade of purple.

"You... you... This has nothing to do with Owen..."

"Oh? It has nothing to do with Owen?" Selina asked with exaggerated surprise. "That’s odd, because didn’t Owen show up at Reid Group this morning? Bragging that he’d be the next head of the company?"

Her voice turned sharp, tinged with innocence. "Unless he’s plotting behind your back to steal from his big brother... That would be terrible! You wouldn’t want to enable that kind of thing, would you, Mrs. Reid?"

Each word landed like a dagger. Alia was so enraged she charged forward and raised her hand, ready to slap Logan across the face—

Selina caught her wrist mid-air, a mocking smile tugging at her lips. "Mrs. Reid, your biological son is injured, and you’re still about to hit him—for Owen?"

She paused, then added aningfully, "I heard that back then, you and Miss Anna were pregnant at the sa ti. They say Anna’s child was stillborn... but suddenly, I’m starting to doubt that."

Alia’s heart skipped a beat. She couldn’t figure out what Selina was getting at.

Then Selina’s voice rang out—slow and deliberate:

"Anna’s child would have been a threat. So the easiest thing? Just get rid of him. That way, your son would be the only heir to the Reid Family. But no one expected he’d survive... and co back. A rightful heir returned—so what happens to your son? You switch them. Call the real heir a bastard. Sar him. Bury him."

Alia violently yanked her hand away. "Shut up! Shut up! Sobody throw this wench out!"

Selina ignored the guards rushing toward her.

"And to give your son a spotless identity, you called him an adopted child. This way, even if you showed blatant favoritism, people wouldn’t question it—right?"

"Shut your mouth!" Alia shrieked, completely unraveling.

Selina looked at Alia’s twisted expression and smiled faintly. "Mrs. Perry, don’t get so worked up. I’m just speculating. I didn’t na nas. After all, I’ve never seen a mother hate her own son this much. Surely you understand?"

The air froze. Not a sound.

Alia’s throat seized up in fury—she couldn’t say a single word.

Selina stepped in closer. "So, Mrs. Perry, are you targeting Logan because my guess is correct? Or because you just want Owen to get his hands on those shares?"

Alia looked like she might faint.

She couldn’t admit Selina was right—yet denying it would contradict everything she’d just claid. She’d said this had nothing to do with Owen.

Selina tilted her head. "Mrs. Perry, since you won’t answer, I’ll assu I guessed right."

She paused thoughtfully, then turned to Logan, her voice serious. "Logan, I’ll go find Grandma Perry. If it turns out you really are Miss Anna’s son, then—"

"I DID IT FOR OWEN!" Alia suddenly scread, cutting her off.

Selina smiled gently.

That outburst said everything.

Alia’s panic was proof: Logan wasn’t a bastard. He was Anna’s son.

Otherwise, why interrupt so fast? Why panic?

Selina’s voice lowered, silk hiding steel. "So... it really was for Owen. Then tell , Mrs. Perry—did Owen know?"
