In front of everyone, Selina walked straight over to Jacob without hesitation. "Mr. Carter."

Logan’s jaw clenched instantly.

Jacob gave a light chuckle and naturally took her purse from her hands. "Traffic?"

Selina brushed her hair back. "Yeah, that’s why I’m a bit late. I’m not too late, am I?"

The two chatted like they were alone in the room, completely ignoring Logan’s presence.

Jack swallowed hard. Since when did Mrs. Reid and Jacob get this close?

He sneaked a glance at Logan’s face—nothing showed. But in his eyes, a storm was brewing. The veins on the back of his hand bulged as he gripped with quiet restraint.

Jacob gave a polite nod. "Logan, the party’s started. Let’s head in."

Selina would occasionally look up to say sothing to Jacob, and every ti, he’d respond with a gentle nod and a soft smile—like they were the real couple, a perfect match.

Logan felt like soone had wrapped a fist around his chest and squeezed. There was a needle in his throat; even breathing stung.

The guests started to notice the tension, exchanging glances.

What’s up with Mr. Reid...?

Inside the banquet hall, more people took notice of the woman by Jacob’s side, their faces lighting up with surprise.

"Jacob, who’s this young lady?"

With a smile, Jacob replied, "This is the Clark family’s eldest daughter—Aunt Victoria’s daughter."

People imdiately connected the dots.

"Oh! The Clark family heiress! Jacob, this is the first ti you’ve brought soone to a party. What’s going on between you two?"

Logan’s grip on his wine glass tightened until his knuckles turned white.

Jacob smiled, voice teasing but calm. "We’re just friends."

"You have a female friend? That’s new."

"I heard Mrs. Victoria arranged a childhood engagent for Miss Clark years ago. Wasn’t that with the Carter family? And you’re telling us they’re just friends?"

"Co on, Jacob, don’t lie to us."

Clearly, no one believed him. Egged on by Jacob’s vague responses, they continued teasing:

"She’s your fiancée, right? We’re all friends here. No need to be so secretive!"

Selina instinctively turned her head toward Logan. His eyes were deep, stormy, intense enough to make her heart skip a beat.

Jacob, still smiling, said gently, "Don’t tease her—not yet."

Not yet...

The implication in those words made Selina frown. She was just about to clarify, but a few guests beat her to it:

"Miss Clark, Jacob’s been single all these years. That alone proves he’s a solid guy."

"Exactly. We’re just waiting for the wedding! When that day cos, we’ll be calling you—"

The word sister-in-law hadn’t even fully landed when—

CRACK.

Everyone’s heads turned.

Logan’s wine glass had shattered in his hand. No one could tell if it was blood or red wine dripping down his sculpted forearm—but it was red. Bright red.

His whole body radiated cold fury. The room went dead silent.

People scrambled to smooth things over. "Haha... must’ve been a cheap glass. I’ll have soone bring Mr. Reid a new one."

Logan said nothing. His gaze locked on Selina, sharp enough to pierce through her.

Selina’s cheeks flushed. Anger flared in her chest.

What the hell are you staring at?

Yes, she had a childhood engagent with the Carter family. Where was the lie? Why was he acting like she’d wronged him?

A waiter quickly brought over a new glass. No one dared press their luck, and the group began to quietly disperse.

Then, Selina gave a mocking laugh and said sarcastically, "Oh, so it was just a cheap glass? For a second, I thought Mr. Reid had... feelings about Mr. Carter."

The room went dead silent.

Selina, oblivious, looked around in surprise. "Did I say sothing wrong? Just a wild guess. Mr. Reid is way too important to care, right?"

Everyone: "..."

Jack could barely breathe: "..."

Logan gave her one long look, then abruptly turned and walked toward the lounge.

Jack cleared his throat, stepping forward to explain, "Sir’s clothes are wet. He’s just going to change and will be right back. Madam—Miss Clark, you—"

But Selina just scoffed and walked right into the center of the crowd before he could finish.

Everyone was stunned by her boldness.

Soone asked in a low voice, "Miss Clark... are you close with Mr. Reid?"

Selina replied casually, "Oh, not close."

Not close?! Then how the hell did you just pull that off?

"Miss Clark, maybe you don’t realize—Mr. Reid isn’t soone people like us can casually provoke."

"Yeah, you should avoid talking to him too much. If you offend him, no one here can protect you."

"But Mr. Reid has been acting strange today. He usually never shows up to these parties. Now he’s here, looking like he ca to collect a debt. None of us even did anything to him."

Selina flipped her hair, completely unfazed. "Maybe he swallowed a stick of dynamite or sothing."

Everyone fell silent.

This is what she calls ’not close’ with him?

They were pretty sure Miss Clark had just walked all over Logan Reid.

After eating a few bites, Selina accidentally spilled sothing on her outfit. She frowned. "I’m going to the restroom."

She had just finished cleaning her clothes and was heading back when she passed one of the lounges—and suddenly, a door swung open, a hand grabbed her wrist, and she was pulled inside.

Selina gasped, "Let go—"

"Mrs. Reid."

The next second, she was in a familiar embrace, his voice hoarse and low, like he was holding sothing back. "I heard... you and I ’not close’?"

Hot lips brushed against the side of her neck, making her shiver.

She snapped, "That’s right! We’re practically divorced. Of course we’re not close—Logan!"

His lips trailed up her neck, and the mont he heard the word divorce, he bit down—right on her earlobe.

Selina flinched and yelled, "What, I can’t even say the word now? I will say it! You’ve got Angelica anyway. Us getting divorced is the perfect outco—Logan, you’re such a jerk!"

Logan’s warm hand settled on her waist, pulling her tighter into him.

His voice was calm, but firm, full of restraint. "Mrs. Reid. If you say ’divorce’ one more ti, I’m going to kiss you. Don’t bring this on yourself."

Selina was not soone who backed down.

Instant defiance sparked in her. "I will say it. I’ve even drafted the divorce agreent, and—mmph!"

His lips landed on her eye, making her voice falter from the sudden heat.

Selina was furious. "You’re impossible, Logan. Everyone’s saying you’re going to marry Angelica—of course I want to step aside first—"

Another kiss, this ti on her cheek.

His breathing grew heavier. "I told you. Don’t bring this on yourself."

Selina felt more and more wronged. What kind of logic was this?

He could be all over Angelica, but the mont she ca to Jacob’s party, suddenly she was the one crossing a line?

"You think I don’t have options? Plenty of n are after . I still have choices. Personally, I think Mr. Carter’s quite—mmph!"

Her lips were suddenly captured in a fierce kiss, and Logan held her tightly against him. Her vision blurred as everything darkened—sight gone, her other senses sharpened.

Logan kissed her like he was consuming her whole—tongue claiming every inch of her mouth, breath stealing all the air from her lungs.

Selina’s body went weak—

Knock knock knock.

Just then, a knock ca at the door, followed by Jacob’s voice.

"Miss Clark, are you in there? You’ve been gone a while. Everyone’s getting a little worried."

Selina’s eyes flew open.

Jacob’s outside!

Her whole body trembled. She managed to regain so clarity, whispering in panic, "No—stop—the soundproofing... it’s awful..."

These lounges were just temporary setups. The walls might as well have been paper.

There was only a thin door between them and Jacob. If he heard or ca in—they were done.

But Logan just chuckled, low and raspy, full of sothing dark and satisfied.

"Let him hear."
