Married First, Loved Later : A Flash Marriage with My Ex's 'Uncle' Chapter 218: A Sinister Plan in Motion
Logan carried Angelica out of the snow pit, and a crowd imdiately sward around them.
Selina was pushed so far back, she couldn’t even get close.
Angelica’s agent put on an overly dramatic act. "Thank heavens, thank the heavens! Angelica’s safe now—Mr. Reid, I just knew you’d be her lucky star!"
Logan’s voice was cool and distant: "The car’s here. Take her back to the hotel."
The agent’s eyes flickered as she prepared to help Angelica into the car—only for Angelica to suddenly cling tightly to Logan’s wrist, refusing to let go.
The agent sighed dramatically. "Ah... Mr. Reid, she must be clinging to you because you just saved her. She’s very dependent on you. Maybe... maybe you should ride back with her?"
Everyone looked at Logan expectantly.
Of course, it wasn’t impossible.
But just as Logan was about to suggest Selina ride with him too, the agent added with faux regret, "But this car only seats three people, plus the driver. Mr. Reid and Angelica obviously need to go. And Angelica can’t do without —I have to go, too. That leaves no space for Mrs. Reid..."
She paused, then said sorrowfully, "Forget it. I’ll give up my seat. Mr. Reid, you take Angelica back first."
Right after she spoke, Angelica twitched slightly.
The agent quickly moved forward with dication in hand. "I’ve always seen Angelica as my own child. Her health is fragile, and she has episodes now and then. I carry her dicine with . If sothing happens during the ride back..."
She looked toward Selina, eyes gleaming with implication.
"But since Mrs. Reid ca here with Mr. Reid, how could I bear to separate husband and wife? It’s fine. I’ll believe Angelica’s got the luck of the simple-hearted."
The doctor nearby frowned. "Please don’t joke about a patient’s health. Agent, you’d better get in the car, too."
the agent imdiately waved her hands. "But how could I? If I get in the car, what about Mrs. Reid?"
The doctor looked displeased. "We’re talking about soone’s life here. Mrs. Reid can’t just ignore that. It would be too selfish."
The agent put on her best troubled face. "But... but Angelica kept saying... Miss Selina, what do you think?"
Everyone turned to look at Selina.
If Selina still didn’t see through this act, she’d have to be a fool.
One round of emotional blackmail wasn’t enough—Angelica and her agent were trying it again.
Angelica was "unconscious," "dependent" on Logan and her agent, and the car "only had three seats."
So in the na of saving a life, even a wife was supposed to step aside. Jealousy? That could wait.
Logan narrowed his eyes—he saw right through the agent’s ploy. Just as he was about to pry Angelica’s hand off, Selina let out a cold laugh, turned, and walked straight out of the crowd.
Everyone looked at each other, unsure how to react.
"Mrs. Reid just left?"
"Is she mad?"
"She’s really being petty. Angelica’s her sister. Her life’s on the line—can’t she step aside just this once?"
"Then again... Angelica did try to set her up earlier. But still, as the doctor said, what’s a little jealousy in the face of soone’s life?"
Logan’s expression darkened. He gave Luke a look.
Luke’s face twisted. Angelica and her agent were really shaless.
But in this mont, if Logan did abandon Angelica to chase after Selina, public opinion would spiral fast. Soon, people would be saying Selina was jealous enough to ignore her own sister’s life.
The agent, satisfied her sche had worked, smiled sweetly. "Mr. Reid, let’s get going then."
Selina had just arrived at the hotel when Angelica was brought in.
A team of doctors surrounded her, performing a series of examinations. After a while, one of them finally said, "Miss Clark isn’t seriously injured. A good night’s rest should do the trick. However, she seems to be ntally unstable. We’ll need to ask her so questions once she wakes up to understand more."
Her agent looked genuinely concerned. "We still don’t know what exactly happened to Angelica..."
Logan, who had already noticed Selina standing silently at the edge of the crowd, didn’t show much interest in Angelica’s situation. He stood up calmly. "Luke will follow up on everything from here."
"Logan..."
Just as he was about to leave, Angelica suddenly opened her eyes.
She looked weak and confused, trembling all over. "Logan... Did I... Did I survive? You saved ? Thank God... thank God..."
Her agent rushed to her side. "Don’t cry, Angelica! What happened? If soone wronged you, just tell Mr. Reid. I’m sure he’ll stand up for you!"
Angelica bit her lower lip and cautiously glanced at Selina.
"Amanda... never mind. Don’t ask. I’m fine."
Selina narrowed her eyes slightly. What was Angelica playing at now?
Amanda—the agent—imdiately exaggerated, "What do you an ’fine’? What did that ski instructor do to you?! For sothing like this to happen at Young Master Luke’s venue, it has to be dealt with seriously. If he hard you once, he could do it again to soone else!"
With that accusation, bla was subtly shifted to the ski resort. If this wasn’t handled delicately, not just Luke, but even Logan could be dragged into the ss.
People around began chiming in. "Miss Clark, if sothing happened, just tell us."
Angelica opened her mouth as if to speak, then hesitated again. "But my sister... It’s nothing. Please, don’t ask anymore."
Amanda’s eyes flickered, and she said with deliberate shock, "Wait, does this have sothing to do with Mrs. Reid? No way... that can’t be!"
Angelica put on an expression of being forced to speak, pretending as if the truth was being pulled out of her. She looked conflicted.
"The ski instructor took sowhere remote and tried to take advantage of ... I begged him to let go, but he said he’d been paid—by my sister. He said Selina wanted to destroy so I couldn’t compete for Mr. Reid’s affection anymore..."
The room fell silent.
Everyone turned to stare at Selina, stunned.
Wait—did Angelica just say that Selina paid the ski instructor to assault her own sister?
Tears stread down Angelica’s face. "I used all my strength to escape, but I wasn’t careful and fell into the snow pit, passed out..."
"I don’t believe Selina would do such a thing. It must have been the instructor trying to fra her!"
She looked like the perfect big sister—understanding, forgiving.
"Selina is my sister. We may not be related by blood, but we grew up together. I know she wouldn’t do sothing like this!"
Selina let out a cold laugh.
So this was the trap Angelica had been setting with her "accident" all along.
Amanda added fuel to the fire, pretending to be hesitant. "Angelica, you’re too trusting... But if it really did involve Mrs. Reid—"
"Amanda! Don’t say that!" Angelica interrupted, as if heartbroken. "I confide in you because we’re friends, but Selina is family. I know better than anyone if she’d harm or not."
"Selina has always been kind. I trust her unconditionally. Today’s incident must have nothing to do with her. The ski instructor is to bla. Punish him and let it go!"
Anyone who didn’t know better might have been moved by Angelica’s sisterly loyalty.
Angelica hid her sinister expression behind tear-filled eyes. "Logan, can you help punish that ski instructor?"
