"How dare you!" the girl snarled, sounding more cute than scary. Her hands balled into fists, and she bared her teeth too, face red with anger.

She was like those little dolls my step sister played with. I never thought I would see one in person.

I refrained from snorting or even indulging in amusent.

"I can tell you want to laugh!" she blurted and pointed an accusing finger at .

"Far from it," I reassured, even though my lips pressed together, sinking slightly inward.

What am I going to do? I can’t hold it in. Deep breaths, Eloise, deep breaths!

"Liar!"

I cleared my throat to stifle my laugh. "She’s quite untrained, isn’t she?" I said to Osha, hoping to be collected and not laugh like a madwoman.

Osha nodded in agreent.

"You...." she stuttered.

"What?" I teased.

"Ugh!" The girl snapped her fan in two and stord away while muttering a round of curses.

"Maybe she had lost her way," I said, because that was the only reason soone like her would’ve casually walked in like she owned the place.

"I-I think so too, Your Grace. I haven’t seen her before, must be a new assigned worker. M-More training will put her in place."

"You don’t think she would’ve snapped and tried to attack , right?" I asked just to be safe. "She might co back for my head."

The last thing I wanted was to be on another Lycan’s target list; I had my hands full with Sloane already.

Osha giggled. "C-Certainly not, your grace, all servants within this wing are not hostile towards you. The color of her clothes matched the servants working in this wing; you have nothing to worry about.

I sighed in relief. "That’s good to know."

I waited for Drevon. The mont I got ready for bed, I kept waiting for him to step through that door as if I had lost my mind.

It had been a long day, and although I was still reeling from my small victory with Sloane, I knew I had to get ready for action soon.

Becoming powerful was the only way I could accomplish what I set out to do. To bring down Sloane.

To do that, I must do it the Lycan’s way. When in Ro, do as the Romans do. I don’t give any thought to how they do things; however, I need to so that I can show Sloane that the humans she considered insignificant were far more capable than she thought. A human can take everything from her.

I need to make my own court.

I chewed on my nails in deep thought. But how can a human like have one? It’s not like there are any humans here, just Lycans. Who would support a human?

This plan was so perfect...But it was a dead end.

I faced the sky, and the moon was already out.

What’s taking him so long? Has he been at court all day?

I straightened my back. "Anyone out there?" I called. I had Osha retire early, so I wondered who was at the door aside from the company of knights.

"Your Grace."

That voice. "Sir Lucan?"

"May I co in?"

"Yes."

The door opened, and Lucan poked his head. "Nice to see you, Your Grace. I thought you were sleeping."

"You’ve been out there the entire ti?" I asked, tilting my head so that I could see him.

He stepped in but stayed at the door. "Yes, the mont your handmaid left. I’m assigned to guard you while she’s absent."

"Why?" I blinked.

"Well, you see, the monarch will be very busy and won’t make it to his chambers."

"Oh..." I said, a downhearted tone laced in my voice that even I couldn’t believe. "I guess his court must be taking his ti."

I-It’s not like I miss him or anything.

"Oh no, he had other business to attend," Lucan paused. "I should not have said that."

"Hmm...what business?"

He chuckled. "Nice try. Is that macarons?"

I shift my gaze to the plate decorated with them, and an idea blooms in my head like a morning glow.

I smirked. "Yes." I grabbed the plate and thrust it forward to lure him in. "Want so?"

"No, I shouldn’t. I was instructed to guard your door and not co in," he explained, eyeing the plate like it would mysteriously disappear.

"Too bad," I said, sniffing the air around the plate, and sighed in ecstasy. "It was freshly baked, too. Complints to the chef."

Lucan gulped audibly.

"Oh well, since you cannot eat them, they will go to waste."

"Waste?" he snapped his gaze at like I’d ntioned a great offense.

I grinned. "I have no appetite. Perhaps you can help ? It would be a sha for these delicious pastries to be trashed."

"Gladly!" He shut the door and hurried to grab it.

I swooped the plate backwards with ease. "You still haven’t answered my question. I’m not handing them out freely."

"What question?"

"The business the monarch is attending? That has nothing to do with the court and his absence tonight? Should I write it down too?"

"Well..." he eyed the plate, drooling.

I sucked on my teeth. "Maybe I should call Osha to co and discard this. Pity."

"I overheard him and Garrick!"

"Is that so?"

Lucan sighed in defeat. "The monarch confides in him more. Garrick is like the brain, and I’m the rock, I think."

"You an brawn?" I said, dropping the plate. "That explains a lot."

Garrick sat and grinned, eating through the macarons like he had been starving, which is highly unlikely given his status.

This man has too much of a wild appetite.

"Care to continue?"

"I really shouldn’t," he said with a mouthful.

"Okay, how about this? Tell what you overheard, and I’ll let you have the full table." I offered.

It was ridiculously plenty after all, and I don’t have the appetite.

"The monarch talked about you!" he rushed, unashad, as if he hadn’t given up confidentiality for more pastries.
