Phoebe’s POV

I felt a warm surge of satisfaction when a warrior approached , gratitude written across his weathered face. He thanked for my swift action during the crisis—without my intervention, he would have lost his wolf spirit forever, ending his days as a warrior for good.

Since I still couldn’t speak, I simply nodded and gestured that I was glad he was okay.

The pack mbers began viewing differently. I wasn’t the helpless, hopeless figure they’d assud I was.

Word had spread that I lacked a wolf spirit, though the reason remained a mystery to everyone.

This shift in perception about had also transford how people saw the king.

Particularly when they witnessed Perry’s gentle treatnt of —a side of the Mad King they’d never imagined existed.

"No matter how brutal you are, you beco the most tender creature for your mate."

"I spotted the king yesterday, braiding Queen Phoebe’s hair. They looked adorable together."

"The other day, I watched him scolding a warrior, but the mont Queen Phoebe walked over and spoke to him, his entire tone softened."

These conversations filled the air recently. Lynn and Rosa shared all the gossip with , practically swooning over the idea of finding soone like the king soday.

"Though please, make him less terrifying. I still shake when the king’s in the sa room. His presence is overwhelming," Lynn admitted with a visible shudder.

The sisters continued their chatter while I listened, occasionally adding my thoughts. We stirred a healing brew together.

The warriors were recovering well, which had lightened our workload considerably.

Speak of the devil—Rosa nearly dropped her ladle when she spotted the king heading our way. She elbowed her sister to stop talking, worried he might overhear their conversation from this distance.

Their concern was unnecessary. Perry’s attention was completely fixed on . He didn’t even register their presence as he leaned down to kiss my cheek.

Instead, his lips found mine when I turned my head at just the right mont, curious about what had captured the sisters’ wide-eyed stares.

My mate stood behind .

"Oops. Didn’t realize you wanted to kiss you so badly. Good instincts." Perry captured my lips again before I could object.

The situation heated up quickly. When he refused to release , Rosa and Lynn took the hint and slipped away before getting caught in the steaminess.

I pushed him back gently, signaling for him to stop, then mouthed: *What?*

Perry pressed a soft kiss to my nose tip, his eyes drinking in my swollen lips with obvious satisfaction. He smirked. "Let’s head back to the palace. You’re done here. Those healers you recruited can manage everything."

I knew this mont would co eventually, but leaving felt difficult now. I’d grown attached to this place.

Here, I felt valuable. I could actually help with sothing aningful.

Still, I couldn’t stay forever. I understood that.

*When?*

"Right now. Let’s go."

I tugged his hand and indicated I needed to inform the other healers about my departure. Perry saw no point in it, but since it would make happy, he agreed.

"Five minutes." He leaned over and nibbled my lips playfully.

——

Fiona entered the hut and headed straight for Reginald’s room, freezing when she saw Tiara there. Blood drained from her face. Tiara must have told Reginald everything.

"There you are!" Tiara bead, waving Fiona closer. The old woman’s face lit up with joy. "I think you two have plenty to discuss. I’ll leave you alone."

"Yes, we have much to talk about. Thank you, Mother." Reginald nodded, his gaze locked on Fiona.

As Tiara passed Fiona, she whispered encouragingly, "Don’t worry. He said he’s happy about the pregnancy."

Fiona’s face twisted with doubt.

Once alone, Reginald’s intense stare found her, and Fiona couldn’t et his eyes.

"Is it true? You’re pregnant?" Reginald’s eyes narrowed. "It can’t be mine."

Those words brought Fiona to her knees. She buried her face in her hands and sobbed. "I know. I know... what am I supposed to do?" She tried muffling her cries, knowing it was pointless. Everyone outside could probably hear her breakdown.

Surprisingly, Reginald extended his hand, his voice softening as he called her na. "Co here, Fiona. No need for tears."

Fiona lowered her hands, staring at him in confusion. Had she heard correctly? Then he called again.

"Co here. This isn’t your fault. It’s mine."

Fiona shook her head but imdiately threw herself into his arms. "What do we do now?"

Fear consud her.

"We’ll figure this out together." Reginald kissed the top of her head.

"We need to get rid of this baby." Fiona felt the disgust she’d been fighting, but Reginald’s response caught her off guard.

"No. You won’t get rid of the baby, love."
