Phoebe’s POV

"Don’t worry, no one will catch that sex scent on you now," Marcela teased as she misted with perfu.

The fragrance wasn’t overpowering—shifters got irritated by strong slls—but it would mask the sweet aroma clinging to my skin.

I inhaled, trying to detect what those shifters could sll. How intense was this sex scent anyway? I’d never had the chance to experience full shifter abilities.

My wolf had died before I could even shift for the first ti. Still, I understood the basics of what shifters could do.

"You’re good now," Marcela announced, but doubt gnawed at . I asked her to get Perry—I needed to be certain. After all, Marcela wasn’t any better at this than .

She was a healer, not a shifter.

Perry appeared monts later, a smirk playing on his lips as Marcela explained why I’d summoned him.

"Your scent is divine, my queen. Nothing’s wrong with it." His eyes darkened as he continued. "Marcela did excellent work. I can’t even detect my own scent on you. That’s actually pretty annoying."

Only then did I feel ready to face everyone else. I refused to walk around broadcasting that I’d just had sex with the king.

That wouldn’t make the best first impression as this kingdom’s new queen.

"They’re planning a ceremony," Darius inford Reginald. He explained that all preparations would wrap up by week’s end—they just needed coordination from the Valerium warrior.

"Perfect. I’ll handle that part," Reginald replied. "Keep things moving. I need to discuss our final decision with royal beta Allen."

Darius nodded, then shifted topics. "I haven’t seen Fiona in two days. What’s going on with her?"

"She’s fine." Reginald brushed off the concern. "She’s still grieving. Everything happening at once—losing her father, losing her pack, now we’re fugitives. It’s overwhelming. Give her space. You’ve asked the sa question since yesterday."

Darius sighed heavily, sensing Reginald’s irritation. "Sorry if I overstepped, but she’s like my own daughter. I took responsibility for her when alpha Theodore died."

Reginald turned to face Darius. The man used to be gamma for Crimson Fang pack, but that pack was long gone. His title ant nothing now, sa as alpha Sterling. Nothing remained of Obsidian Claw pack.

"Fiona is my mate. She’s my responsibility now. You don’t need to worry about her."

Relief crossed Darius’s features. "Of course. I apologize." He approached and patted Reginald’s shoulder. "I wonder how we ended up here. Everything seed perfect initially. Our plan was flawless. But one wrong move destroyed everything."

Reginald knew exactly which wrong move Darius ant. Kevin’s decision to rush things. The fool had wanted to increase the poison dosage, which exposed them to Helen and forced Reginald to kill the healer. That stupid man. Reginald should have eliminated him sooner—would have saved them massive losses.

"Be patient. Don’t repeat the sa mistake." Darius patted his shoulder again before leaving.

Reginald scoffed at the advice. He didn’t need lectures about patience. He wasn’t as idiotic as Kevin.

And this ti, he would end this battle victorious.

Reginald entered the bedroom where Fiona waited. She looked worn down, her eyes dull and lifeless.

"Have you decided?" Reginald sat beside her, his expression appearing sad, though fury burned in his eyes. Fiona was taking too long to agree, and his patience was wearing thin.

Reginald almost laughed at how right Darius had been about needing patience.

"Is there... isn’t there another way?" Fiona stamred. "Do I really have to do this?"

Reginald rubbed his face wearily. They’d had this conversation countless tis. If he snapped now and lashed out, she wouldn’t cooperate willingly. She might cause a scene and expose what he was asking of her.

"Yes, Fiona. There’s no other option. I’m sorry. So sorry." Reginald embraced his mate. The bond between them grew weaker each day, almost as if he’d rejected her.

It probably happened because Reginald hadn’t been fully committed when he marked her. That’s why he felt no real connection.

"I don’t want to do this," Fiona sobbed. "How can you be okay with this?"

"I’m not. How can you say I’m okay with any of this?" Reginald let so anger and frustration leak through. "I’m doing this for you, for your pack, to avenge your father. I’m giving everything I have."

He cupped her face as tears stread down her cheeks. Her eyes were red and swollen from constant crying.

"It’s fine if you don’t want to. We’ll find another solution." Reginald employed reverse psychology. "It’s okay. I’ll refuse their demands. Don’t think about it anymore. Just forget it."

"But... their help. What about their assistance? Will they still help us?" Fiona gripped his hands tightly.

"About that..." Reginald looked down, projecting pessimism. "I think they’ll withdraw their support."

"No, they can’t do that. We need them. You said we needed them."

"Yes, but..."

"Fine. I’ll do it. When do I et with royal beta Allen?"
