Hearing this, Song Yan lowered his gaze for a mont before he said, "Uncle, I know you an well. But I can't help it."

Raising his eyes, he smiled and added helplessly, "Now, I finally understand my mother. My father couldn't give her what she wanted, but Lanying could give what I wanted. For her, I can give up everything. But I will never let her go."

The director shook his head and said, "Your father already knows about your relationship with that girl. He hopes you won't end up hurting her."

Clenching his fists, Song Yan smiled and replied, "I will never hurt her."

After the brief conversation, Song Yan left the eting room and went to Su Lanying's ward. When he arrived, the Su family was chatting with her.

Seeing him coming, they exchanged glances and decided to give them space to talk. So, after a few greetings, the Su family left the ward and went to the cafeteria to buy breakfast.

Before taking his seat, Song Yan pulled the curtain around the bed. Taking a small jar from his pocket, he sat on the chair beside the bed and asked, "Lanying, how are you feeling?"

"I'm a little bit nervous," Su Lanying replied honestly.

Reaching out, Song Yan held her hand and said, "Lanying, don't worry. I will be with you during the entire procedure. I won't let anything happen to you. This surgery will be successful, and you won't be in pain anymore."

Su Lanying held his hand back and smiled, "Song Yan, thank you."

Song Yan didn't know why she thanked him, but he still smiled and said, "My teacher gave sothing. He said this dicine is very effective. My junior sister recovered from her illness after taking it."

Opening the jar, he showed her the golden powder inside and said, "Lanying, it's made from rare herbs. How about you try so? It can give you more energy."

Looking at the golden powder, Su Lanying knew it must be very expensive. While her family and Song Yan had told her the surgery had more than a 90% success rate, she had overheard the nurses saying her chances were only 50%.

This ti, going into the operating room, she might not co back out. She didn't fear death, she only felt reluctant to leave the people she loved behind.

eting his expectant gaze, she nodded and said, "Okay."

Song Yan helped her sit up and poured so water into a glass. Then, he scooped three spoonfuls of powder and mixed it in.

Logically, with so much powder, the water should have turned a golden hue. But after he stirred for a while, the water remained clear, though the powder had dissolved.

Song Yan handed the glass to her and said, "Lanying, drink it all."

Su Lanying nodded and drank the water down to the last drop. Afterward, she felt a surge of energy spreading inside her body, and the pain in her chest had eased by more than half.

Taking a deep breath, she exhaled slowly and said, "This dicine is amazing. I feel much better."

Thinking she was just trying to reassure him, Song Yan forced a smile and changed the subject. They talked about everything, even making plans for the future.

When the clock struck 9 a.m., he said, "Lanying, I have to go and prepare for the surgery. Don't overthink it. Just relax."

"Okay," Su Lanying nodded with a smile.

After lingering for another mont, Song Yan finally left the ward. Not long after, the Su family returned and chatted with her. Soon after, the nurses entered the ward and said, "Comrade Su, it's ti to change your clothes."

Su Lanying nodded and let the nurses help her change. When she was wheeled out of the ward, the Su family followed her to the operating room area.

As they reached the double doors, one of the nurses stopped them and said, "Family mbers can't go inside. Please wait here or in the waiting room."

Lying on the bed, Su Lanying smiled at her family and said, "Mother, Father, Brother—don't worry. I will co back."

After she said this, the nurses opened the doors and pushed her inside. Standing outside the closed doors, ng Qiaoping finally burst into tears.

Su Lide held his wife in his arms and said, "Don't cry. Our daughter will be fine. She will co back to us."

Su Jian stood beside them in silence, but the worry in his heart was no less than his parents'.

Inside the operating room, Su Lanying lay on the table and looked around. When she saw the tools for the surgery, fear crept into her heart. But rembering that Song Yan would be there with her, she slowly cald down.

Seeing her heart rate spike, one of the nurses smiled and said, "Comrade Su, don't worry. The doctors are experienced. You will be fine."

"Mhmm," Su Lanying nodded.

At ten minutes to ten, the operating room door opened and Song Yan walked in. With the nurses' help, he put on his gown and walked over to her.

Standing beside her, he leaned down and said, "Lanying, when you wake up, it will all be over."

Fearing she might not get another chance to express her feelings, Su Lanying said, "Song Yan, I like you. When I get better, let's get married."

Everyone in the operating room was stunned, especially Song Yan. It took him a mont to collect himself before he replied hoarsely, "Okay."

Soon after, several doctors entered the room, and the operation began.

While the doctors worked tirelessly inside, the Su family waited anxiously outside.

Three hours later, Su Jian stood up to buy so water for his parents. The doctors had told them that the operation could take anywhere from three to six hours. So, they could only wait.

After two more hours, the operating room finally opened, and the lead doctor ca out together with Song Yan. Since the lead doctor could only speak English, Song Yan helped translate.
