Having already taken the first step, Song Yan decided to go all in. It was better to be upfront than to leave room for misunderstanding.
Clenching his fists, he said, "Uncle Su, Aunt Su, I like Lanying and want to ask for your permission to be with her. If possible, I hope to marry her after her recovery."
"What?!"
This ti, the shock hit them even harder than the news about the treatnt.
"This… this—"
ng Qiaoping was so stunned she couldn't even speak. She just stared wide-eyed at her daughter and Song Yan.
Su Lanying glanced at the man sitting beside her and let out a quiet sigh. She t her parent's gaze and said, "Mother, Father, I haven't accepted Doctor Song's confession."
Hearing that, Song Yan's eyes widened and he quickly turned to her.
"Lanying, didn't you just agree to be with ? Why are you saying you haven't accepted it now?" he asked.
"Doctor Song, I only asked about your intentions. I haven't accepted your confession," Su Lanying replied calmly.
Song Yan thought for a mont, then asked, "So… not accepting ans I still have a chance, right?"
Su Lanying nodded and replied, "If I can recover, and you can get your family's approval, then I will marry you. Otherwise, you should find soone who matches your status and background."
"Don't worry. I will make sure to get my parents' approval," Song Yan said, beaming with joy.
Sitting across from him, Su Lide and Su Jian felt like sothing was stuck in their throats. This man looked like a gentleman, but in truth, he was a wolf stealing their family's precious cabbage!
Since their daughter had already made her decision and even said those words, Su Lide and ng Qiaoping could only swallow their refusal and plan to talk to her later.
Setting aside the disparity in family status and wealth, their hidden identity alone was enough reason to oppose the relationship.
As descendants of "wicked people," how could they dare risk exposure by letting their daughter marry into a prominent family from the capital?
If their true identities were revealed, it wouldn't just harm their family—it would drag Song Yan and his family into the mud as well. He had helped them so much; how could they bear to bring him trouble in return?
No matter what, they had to find a way to object to this relationship.
Unaware of their thoughts, Song Yan was over the moon. He was so unwilling to leave that he stayed with them until the lunch break was over.
After the Su family returned to work, he sent Su Lanying back ho before heading to the hospital to arrange everything for her.
Before the day ended, news of Song Yan having lunch with the Su family had already spread throughout the village. Everyone guessed that joyous news would soon co from the Su household.
After all, with soone as outstanding as Song Yan, which family would delay the marriage?
If they didn't tie him down quickly, what if soone else appeared and snatched him away?
While the villagers had these thoughts, Su Lide and his wife were hoping for the opposite.
Marrying into a wealthy family was never a good thing. With their daughter's frail body, it would be difficult for her to bear children. That was why they never pressured her to marry in the first place.
When the sun was setting on the western horizon, a siren echoed through the area, marking the end of the day's work. Everyone packed up their belongings and made their way ho.
As the sky darkened, Su Lide, ng Qiaoping, and Su Jian finally reached their house. Just as they locked the gate, Su Lanying ca out to greet them.
"Father, Mother, Brother, you are back. I boiled so water for you to wash up. Once you are done, we can have dinner together," she said while helping them carry their tools and bamboo basket.
Hearing this, ng Qiaoping held her daughter's hand and said, "Lanying, you have worked hard today."
"Mother, I didn't do anything. It's you, Father, and Brother who worked hard."
The family bathed and had dinner together. After the al, they gathered in Su Lide's bedroom and sat on the kang bed.
After so small talk, ng Qiaoping finally asked, "Lanying, what do you think about Doctor Song?"
"He is a good person."
Hearing her words, Su Lide asked, "Lanying, tell us honestly—do you have feelings for Doctor Song? If you don't like him, we will find a way to repay his kindness but reject his proposal."
"Lanying, don't worry about offending him," Su Jian said, patting his chest. "With and our parents around, he wouldn't dare force you into anything."
Su Lanying smiled and said, "Father, Mother, Brother, to be honest, I do like Doctor Song, but it hasn't reached the point where I can't live without him."
"I told him about my condition and the possibility of not being able to have children when he confessed before. But he still insisted on confessing to despite my rejection. So, I want to give both him and myself a chance."
After she said this, the room fell silent. Five minutes later, ng Qiaoping asked softly, "Lanying, you know that marrying into the Song family isn't like marrying into an ordinary one."
"Their family has close ties with the country's leaders and is well-known in the dical field. It would be difficult for them to accept a daughter-in-law who might not be able to bear children. If you marry into that family, you will suffer."
Su Lanying smiled and replied, "Mother, I know. That's why I told him to get his family's approval first. If I rejected him directly, he wouldn't give up."
Hearing this, they finally understood her intention. She wasn't holding out hope for her and Song Yan's relationship and understood the situation clearly.
"Lanying, are you doing this so he will give up on his own?" Su Lide asked.
