Chapter 849: Gear 2? (3)
Chapter 849
Orion remained rooted, a dark, shadowed look crossing his features as he stared down at the earth, not even bothering to glance up at the elental onslaught rapidly approaching him.
"You underestimate
a lot, kid."
The atmosphere above the descending spells suddenly began to shimr with an incandescent yellow radiance.
From the light erged thousands—no, tens of thousands—of Ki swords, hanging in the air like a forest of executioner blades.
Within a heartbeat, they descended with staggering velocity, moving far faster than Grey’s "slow" elental strikes.
A second later, the entire coliseum shuddered violently, as if a major earthquake had struck the foundations.
The force of the impact threw nearly everyone in the stands off their feet.
Explosions rang across the arena with deafening intensity, while stray attacks smashed into the floor or the spectator sections, hurling jagged rubble high into the air.
Orion’s Ki swords and Grey’s elental techniques collided in a fierce, blinding display of power that literally shook the coliseum, a structure spanning nearly a kiloter.
Blood continued to drip steadily from Grey’s mouth, yet he did not falter, nor did he look like he was prepared to fall.
Orion, conversely, appeared utterly composed, as if the entire ordeal were nothing more than a tedious chore on a Tuesday morning.
From the thick curtain of smoke that had now blanketed the arena, Orion calmly walked forward like a hero from a cinematic epic, even as the detonations continued to thunder in the background.
But Grey wasn’t about to back down.
"Kaiser! Salamander!"
To his left, a gigantic bird forged entirely from ethereal, whistling wind manifested out of thin air.
Simultaneously, from a small spark to his right, a massive dragon composed completely of living flas roared into existence.
Screeeeech—!
The elental beasts scread with a thunderous resonance that rattled the very stones.
The spectators were captivated, their breaths caught in their throats at the sight of such high-level conjuration.
With a sharp jab of his hands, Grey sent the elental beasts rushing toward the advancing Orion with blistering speed.
From the man’s palms, Ki scythes began to take shape, forming so quickly that they were fully gripped within a heartbeat.
At that exact mont, the beasts reached his position in a furious gale of a storm.
A fireball the size of the moon burst from Salamander’s gaping maw.
’Creation magic, huh? He used the sa against
when we fought, but still... to maintain two distinct creations at once... ugh. Why the hell am I even surprised by anything he does anymore?!’ Fenrir groaned inwardly.
Creation magic was a sophisticated technique that allowed mages to forge beasts or complex weapons from their respective elents.
While the elental weapons—the spears and swords Grey had been manifesting—were products of this magic, they consud far less mana than his current feat.
Elental beasts were not only incredibly taxing on one’s mana reserves, but they also placed an imnse strain on the caster’s mind, as they typically required constant ntal direction.
In Grey’s case, however, his creations possessed a rudintary consciousness of their own.
He only needed to provide a single command regarding their target, and they would handle the rest.
Furthermore, these beasts possessed power that often rivaled or exceeded their user’s base strength.
Orion stared at the approaching fireball as if it were a repulsive object.
Rotating his scythes clockwise with a deepenining scowl, he hurled the weapon forward, aiming to tear through the spell the sa way he had dispersed Noir’s and Grey’s previous fireballs.
But the mont the bladed Ki scythe struck the inferno, the weapon disintegrated into nothingness.
The flas continued onward, stunning Orion to no end.
Sensing the true magnitude of the heat approaching him, he instantly wrapped himself in a layer of visible Ki.
With a powerful thrust of his palms, Ki waves surged forward to et the fireball.
The world seed to freeze for a mont as the two forces collided in the center of the arena.
Neither side was able to overpower the other for a split second, until Salamander’s fireball pressed further, disintegrating the tidal wave into a massive cloud of scalding steam.
Unfortunately for the beast, Orion was already gone.
The fireball crashed into the ground and slamd into the coliseum wall, reducing the stone to charred rubble almost instantly.
’Damn it! The kid keeps pulling out techniques right out of his ass. What kind of a monster is he?!’ Orion clicked his tongue inwardly in a fit of rising anger.
Screeeeech—!
Turning his head sharply to the side, he found Kaiser already there.
With one violent flap of its ethereal wings, a thousand wind swords burst forth with deadly velocity, rocketing towards the warrior in a jagged cloud of steel-colored air.
Creating another pair of Ki scythes in his grasp, Orion dashed forward, clashing with the thousand weapons and felling them from the sky like autumn leaves.
However, he was struggling significantly due to their imnse numbers and the sheer weight of the magic behind them.
He wasn’t finding it easy to shatter them like brittle glass anymore—not the way he had dismantled Grey’s standard wind blades earlier.
Hence,
Tchaaak—!
The swords began finding openings, biting into his shoulders, piercing his legs, and scratching his face.
Each strike drew fresh blood from his body, yet he kept pushing through the storm.
The speed he demonstrated was far beyond any normal human’s ability, yet he was still being systematically whittled down.
Though none of the wounds were imdiately fatal, he was taking genuine damage.
It was as if all the injuries he had dealt Grey were now being repaid to him threefold.
Finally, with a fierce, desperate spin of the Ki scythes in his hands, a surge of yellow energy shot forth.
The wave collided with the remaining blades, shattering the last of the wind-forged swords into nothingness.
Screeeeech—!
The warrior heard a second, more fiery scream from behind him.
He instantly twirled around, his scythe speeding towards the incoming Salamander.
But just before the blow connected, an ashen portal opened behind the dragon, swallowing the beast whole before snapping shut.
Orion’s scythe struck only empty air, tearing a deep, jagged gouge in the ground instead.
Instantaneously, another portal opened directly behind the man.
Thalos burst forth from the rift with terrifying speed.
Before the warrior could reposition his weight or bring his weapons to bear, the gargoyle’s greatsword bashed into his face with the force of a speeding train.
He was sent sliding backward, his vision swimming.
But the gargoyle wasn’t finished.
Thalos rocketed forward with imnse montum, smashing a stone fist into the man’s abdon with such trendous force that Orion was hamred instantly into the earth.
A ten-tre-wide crater exploded into existence beneath his body, followed almost imdiately by a fountain of crimson blood shooting from his mouth.
