Chapter 729: Chapter 729
Chapter 729
"Yo... you aren’t upset or blaming
for the deaths of Millie and Vanessa?"
Yami chuckled loudly, the sound echoing off the barren walls.
"Of course not, dumbass."
"What?!" Grey’s mouth hung open in absolute shock.
Hearing this revelation, Noir calmly sat back down and resud licking his paw and fur.
For a familiar king of his stature, the activity appeared sowhat deaning, yet he seed entirely unbothered by the dostic setting.
"The... then why?"
Yami rely rubbed his dark hair while letting out an awkward chuckle.
"Clarice here inford
regarding how powerful you have beco.
Consequently, I attacked you to force you into using those mythical powers against . I wanted to assess exactly how strong you actually are when your life is truly on the line."
Yami sighed heavily as he stepped forward and lightly slamd his palm against the mage’s head in a playful yet firm manner.
"But you, being a complete moron, just quietly endured my beatings without even lifting a single finger to defend yourself."
Clarice frowned at this admission, her eyes suddenly blazing with fury as she stomped forward like an angry bull.
The next second, she gripped the man by his ear so tightly that half of his face reddened in an instant.
A sharp, loud yelp escaped from the warrior’s mouth as he winced under her touch.
"How dare you do that to my baby boy? Who gave you the permission or the right to test him so harshly?"
Yami vehently shook his hand in deep pain, trying to find so leverage.
"I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m sorry, my love! It was just a simple test. Please do not pull my ear off!"
Clarice huffed, keeping her glare fixed on the man even as she prepared to release him.
"Last warning, if you pull a stunt like this again, you won’t eat and I won’t still give you food too."
She finally let go of the appendage, causing Yami to frantically massage it with a flustered expression on his face.
"Oh, co on now. You would really want to starve
of both als? That is so incredibly unfair."
Grey just blinked confusedly at the whole exchange before his features softened into a quiet, warm smile.
"Thank you."
Mid-rub of his throbbing ear, Yami lifted an eyebrow in confusion.
"Huh?"
Grey lifted his head, though he winced slightly from the lingering pain in his ribs.
"Ever since I awakened, nobody has beaten
so severely like this... actually, they have. But not by people that I truly care about.
Your mild punishnt today, although not life-threatening in the end, felt nice. I needed that disciplinary action so I could feel human pain again."
Yami couldn’t quite make sense of the mage’s cryptic ramblings and simply shrugged his shoulders.
"Well, then you are entirely welco."
After a thoughtful pause, he added:
"I guess."
Then the man’s expression grew serious as he gazed at the mage intently. After a few silent seconds, a soft smile finally graced his face.
"I see... you have evolved into a stage 4 warrior, huh? That was remarkably quick considering the fact that you originally left for the academy as a re stage 1 warrior."
Grey just rubbed his hair, returning the awkward chuckle with a hint of pride.
Clarice’s eyes suddenly lit up in shock as she facepald herself with a loud smack.
"Shoot! The vegetables!" She darted straight for the small area that ford a makeshift kitchen, her maternal instincts shifting from discipline to cooking in a heartbeat.
The house was currently bare of furniture; hence, the two males just sat down on the hard floor side by side with their backs pressed against the cool wall.
Their gaze remained fixed straight ahead, coincidentally staring at the area around Noir, who sat across from them like a silent guardian.
"I didn’t know that such a powerful wolf was hiding in your mind all along."
Grey just smiled softly, his eyes reflecting a mixture of wonder and lingering confusion.
"Neither did I, honestly, as I had completely lost my mories for a ti."
Then a dark frown creased his face as a nagging thought took root in his mind.
’Now that I think of it, why had he never shown himself to
during the entire duration when I lost my mories? If he had appeared back then, he could have helped
regain my recollections much sooner than this.
Or if I couldn’t, he could have surely helped make so of my battles easier. I definitely need to question Noir about this later.’
Yami’s heavy sigh snapped him out of his swirling thoughts.
"You have regained your mories, huh? So... will we finally be able to know who you truly are, or will you continue to hide it from us?"
Grey shook his head firmly.
"I won’t hide anything anymore, especially since I consider both of you to be my family."
Yami bead, a genuine look of pride crossing his face as he stood up from his seated position and glanced around the quiet room.
"Great. Rest well for now; we will discuss everything better at dinner tonight."
Grey raised an eyebrow, glancing toward the light filtering through the door.
"Dinner? But it is still quite early in the morning."
Yami just exhaled darkly, his hands curling into tight, trembling fists at his sides.
"I have sothing important to do first. Those students of mine that were killed by the ones who attacked you... I need to tell their families exactly what happened personally."
He paused for a mont, his clenched hands tightening until his knuckles turned white.
"They trusted
with their children, sending them to my care to learn martial arts and the proper way to fight, but at the end of the day, they were murdered."
A somber expression fell upon Grey’s face as he looked down toward the ground, feeling the heavy weight of those lost lives pressing against his conscience.
Yami just shrugged his shoulders and turned around, walking out of the house with a determined stride.
"Let’s discuss things better at dinner. Because today is the day of revelation."
With that final word, he fully exited the house, leaving Grey sighing softly before tilting his head toward Noir in the distance.
"We really need to talk." He frowned at the familiar, who rely heaved a weary sigh within the depths of the mage’s mind.
Then, without saying a single word, the creature simply slid its large paw across the floor.
Sothing small and heavy skidded across the wooden flooring, sliding along until it stopped right before the mage’s feet.
Gazing downwards, Grey could see a sword resting within its familiar scabbard.
He recognized it imdiately! It was his own blade, which he had dropped during the chaotic monts when he was getting bashed around by the enemy mages.
He had honestly assud it would have been completely destroyed when he summoned those colossal lightning pillars on that fateful day.
Picking the weapon up, he pulled the tal from its scabbard and stared at the sharp blade glinting brilliantly in front of his eyes.
’I guess I was right; it truly is indestructible. What an incredibly interesting piece of craftsmanship.’
He was just about to send the weapon back into his storage pendant and begin the serious talk with Noir when sothing suddenly clicked in his mind.
’I wonder...’
"Appraisal."
He softly called out the command as his left eye began to emit a fierce, magical glow while he gazed intensely at the sword in his grip.
He was finally ready to find out the true potential of the blade and discover how strong it really was.
