Chapter 678: The Battle Has Begun!
Chapter 678
The mont Noir saw the sky darken, he already knew what Grey was about to do, as if they shared an instinctual connection.
His paws dug into the ground forcefully as a deep crevice burst outward, and like a bolt of lightning, the familiar lunged forward, picking Clarice up with his sharp teeth before tossing her into the air.
She landed with a loud yelp on his broad, blurry back.
She opened her mouth, about to say sothing,
"I know." Noir spoke directly in her mind as he zipped forward again, grabbing Vanessa and Millie in the sa fashion and tossing them onto his back, which had now expanded to accommodate them all comfortably.
That was when he heard Grey’s voice:
"Can you handle ?"
"Shoot! Hold on tight!" Noir yelled inwardly as he shot through a window like a phantom, vanishing from the house.
Just in ti as colossal pillars of lightning erupted from the sky, crashing into the structure and obliterating it completely, sending debris flying in every direction.
The rumbling was deafening, heavy enough that the ground several tres around shuddered violently. It felt like the entire area itself was trembling, quaking under the force.
Grey hovered in the air, frozen montarily, the normal wind brushing softly against his skin, though he didn’t care.
His eyes scanned the area. The entire ground was scorched, burnt as though divine flas had descended and consud the land completely.
"She’s safe."
The voice echoed in his mind, and Grey let out a quiet sigh of relief.
But sothing made him pause as he surveyed the surroundings carefully.
’I can feel sothing in the air. He’s still alive, but hiding sowhere nearby. Also, where is this army he spoke of?’ he mused inwardly, glancing across the empty terrain.
No single soul was in sight, save for Noir, whom he could sense within the modest building a few tres away, along with Clarice and the two fallen girls.
’Huh? Was he bluffing?’
"No, I wasn’t bluffing."
The voice sounded resolute, causing Grey to spin around. A shadow portal opened in the sky, and Z5 floated out of it.
His cheek appeared singed from the earlier lightning strikes, blood trickling from the open wound. Aside from that, he looked... surprisingly fine.
That was because, before the attack could fully connect, he had been fast enough to open a shadow portal and step through it, escaping the worst of the damage.
Grey didn’t make a snarky remark.
He simply stared at the man, his own blood dripping across his face from the multiple blows dealt by the mages with blunt earth clubs.
’At least I’m sure they’ve all been scorched to ashes from that attack,’ he mused inwardly with a smirk as the ruins below him smoked and smoldered.
"Let
ask you this," Z5 said with a faint, confident smile, gliding slowly down from the sky.
Grey followed, landing three tres away from the rubble, his hands casually tucked into his pants pockets.
Calm on the surface, he was anything but calm internally. A storm raged within him, ready to burst forth at any mont.
"How on earth do you actually plan on dealing with ? You’re just a four-star mage with four affinities and a few martial arts skills.
I’m a seven-star mage, although I wield two affinities, both of the high-purple colour. Along with that, I am an upper Zodiac 5, commanding an army of eight hundred strong n and beasts.
"Grey Dawn, what exactly is your plan for this?"
Grey sighed, shaking his head slowly, a mix of fatigue and determination in his eyes.
"I really don’t want to waste ti bickering with you. Show all your cards; let’s get to the part where I clobber every last one of them, including you."
all including you."
"Also, let’s not forget the part where I make you suffer like you have never felt before. And after I’m done with you, I will find your organisation even if they like, they should be on the moon.
I will locate you all, send all of you including your blasted leader to hell. Both young, old, kids or newborns. I will make sure my wrath is felt on all four corners of this universe especially if they are part of your group. That’s all I have to say to you."
A deep silence settled over the battlefield, thick and suffocating.
Z5 stared intently at Grey, his gaze piercing through him. Not a word was spoken for several monts.
"Now, let’s begin," Grey finally said as he slowly rose into the air. His attire shifted magically, a deep purple robe enveloping his body.
That was the official attire and colour of the Supre Magus... without the mask, of course.
"Fine then," Z5 clicked his tongue, the wind lifting him off the ground. His own robe fluttered dramatically around him as he raised himself higher.
"I have a revenge I’ve been waiting to take."
"Then I guess we have sothing in common. Good to know," Grey replied, a faint smirk tugging at the corners of his lips.
"Now, where is this army you claim to have?" Grey asked, narrowing his eyes.
Z5 only smirked and pointed downward.
They hovered roughly ten tres above the ground, Grey glancing down just in ti to hear Z5 utter:
"Arise."
In an instant, shadows swirled across the landscape.
Darkness spread, covering a radius of nearly twenty tres, forming an eerie, pulsating mass. From it, figures erged.
Humans donning robes—clearly mages—mbers of the Red Brigade, each gripping weapons of various kinds.
Beasts also rose, terrifying monstrosities powerful enough to devour anyone in their path.
Altogether, nearly a thousand combatants now prepared for battle, their bodies tense, eyes focused, and fangs bared.
The mages raised their hands to the sky, swirling spells forming around their fingers, ready to strike.
The warriors nocked their bows, arrows aid and quivering.
The beasts crouched low, muscles taut, waiting for the perfect mont to leap or charge, though their precise intentions remained unclear.
"A thousand, huh? How ager," Grey remarked, a chilling grin spreading across his face.
He raised a finger and pointed to the sky above.
Z5 followed his gaze, eyes widening in disbelief.
His jaw nearly dropped at the spectacle.
Fifty colossal wind and lightning birds hovered, their wings slicing the air like blades.
From their open beaks, five hundred attacks each materialized, suspended in midair, ready to unleash chaos upon anyone foolish enough to stand below.
Grey crossed his arms, a calm yet terrifying aura radiating from him.
"Full force, then."
Snap!
The battle had begun.
