Chapter 667: A Confusion
Chapter 667
"Brother Grey!" Millie shouted in excitent as she imdiately leaped into the arms of the male individual who wasted no ti in actually catching her.
"WAAAAAAAH!" the little girl suddenly began crying, sobbing heavily as she hugged the mage tightly, not wanting to let go.
Grey was taken aback for a mont as he froze, genuinely stunned on what exactly to do with the emotional outburst.
A few seconds later, a smile slowly found its way to his face as he began patting her back gently.
"Aww, you missed
huh? There, there, let it all out. I’m back now," he softly said while stroking her back and head with careful tenderness.
"Keep quiet!" Millie suddenly shouted as she jerked her head back to glare at him angrily.
"There, there, let it all out," she mimicked sarcastically, brows furrowed with displeasure.
"Where were you since all these days? It has been months since you went to the academy and you did not even bother to check up on us... on ."
Grey did not reply. He simply watched the little cutie throw her tantrum in peace, respecting every bit of her frustration.
"He did not even send any letters," she added grumpily.
"WAAAAH!" she cried again before burying her face in his clothes, her tears streaming without pause.
Grey paused, unsure of what to say. He simply stood there, listening to her sobs.
"You will not pet ?!" she growled amidst tears.
Hearing that tone, the mage gulped loudly and, with deliberately trembling hands, began stroking and patting her back.
"I’m sorry, cutie pie. I wanted to co much sooner, but the academy would not let . In fact, I had to sneak out just to co here today, leaving Finral and Ray back there," Grey softly said as a warm, genuine smile settled on his face.
"Hey Millie! Is it only you that missed him? Make way, you annoying runt!" Vanessa shouted as she stomped over.
Millie threw her a side glance, wiped her tears away, then hugged Grey even tighter while glaring at her sister.
"Co make
move."
"You..." Vanessa began but stopped abruptly.
She turned towards Grey, her eyes moist and glossy, a noticeable lump forming in her throat.
Before anyone could say anything else, she dashed forward and wrapped her arms around his waist, holding him tightly while sniffling.
"I missed you a lot. I missed your abs... you a lot," she quickly corrected, her cheeks flushing faintly as she hugged the mage with all her strength.
Grey smiled gently.
"I missed you too," he said as he wrapped his free hand around her.
"No hugs for ?" Clarice suddenly pouted, her arms crossed as she threw her head away dramatically.
The young females paused before slowly releasing Grey, giving him free passage toward the older woman.
"There is always a hug for you, mum," Millie chuckled cutely.
Grey bead as he walked forward and, without hesitation, crashed into the woman’s welcoming embrace.
Clarice wasted no ti wrapping her arms around him. The mont her warm limbs held him, tears unexpectedly began streaming down Grey’s face. The emotions he had buried for months cracked open all at once.
For the first ti in ages, Grey was crying. The tears soaked the woman’s clothes, silently revealing the storm churning within him.
"Mother Clarice," he croaked, his voice hitching.
"Oh my little boy," Clarice whispered with a warm smile, her fingers gently stroking Grey’s hair with comforting affection.
He paused, words failing him completely.
A sudden banging headache washed over him, making his vision waver. Sharp flashes of black swept through his mind like distorted shadows, swirling as if trying to force their way to the front of his thoughts.
His breathing staggered.
His heart began pounding.
And the darkness inside his head thickened.
He could see blurry images of an older woman standing in front of him. He hugged her tightly as a warm, motherly aura erupted from her, wrapping around him like a comforting blanket.
It was the exact sa feeling he was receiving from holding Clarice.
A few seconds later, the images vanished completely, leaving him confused as he kept blinking rapidly.
’Wa... was... was that my mother? Sha on . I cannot even rember my mother’s face. Damn it!’ he cursed inwardly, his hands clenching tightly as more tears rolled down uncontrollably.
"There, there, let it all out," Clarice softly said while rubbing his back with calm, steady movents.
"Thank you," Grey muttered gently.
He used his fingers to wipe away the tears before pulling away from the long, heartfelt embrace.
"Thank you, Mother Clarice. Thank you, Vanessa. Thank you, Millie."
Millie blinked in confusion, her little head tilting.
"Why are you thanking us all of a sudden?"
Grey simply bead widely as he finished wiping his face clean.
"You all took
in as one of your own. I arrived here bloodied, weak, vulnerable and without any idea of who I was or where I ca from.
Still, you accepted , cared for , tended to my wounds and even taught
how to defend myself despite not knowing anything about my past."
He paused and exhaled a soft sigh before turning toward Clarice.
"You gave
motherly affection. The sa love and warmth you gave your biological children, you extended to
as well. Millie treated
like her older brother, and Vanessa..."
He halted, blinking once before chuckling quietly.
"Your feelings are different."
"Of course they are. I love you, dumbass," Vanessa scoffed, glaring at him with her cheeks slightly pink.
Grey chuckled again, wiping a tear from the corner of his eye.
"Let’s see about that."
Millie was about to speak when Clarice’s brows suddenly furrowed after noticing sothing troubling.
"Wait a mont. You said you snuck out of the academy. Why did you do that? You left Finral and Ray back there. Why?"
Grey blinked and then everything hit him at once. He suddenly rembered what he ca here for.
"That’s right," he muttered as he dragged his palm across his face. His eyes darted around the room, searching for soone or sothing.
Vanessa noticed the sudden shift in his manner and could not help but ask.
"What are you searching for?"
"Yami sir. Where is he? He sent
a letter asking
to co here, but I cannot see him."
The girls stared at him in absolute confusion, blinking rapidly as if they had just heard the most absurd claim imaginable.
"Dad sent you a letter? When?" Millie questioned.
"Today. I received the letter a few hours ago, which is why I ca running. He said it was important."
Clarice looked even more bewildered. Her heart began thumping harder.
"Letter? What letter? That cannot be Yami. He has not been ho for a week and a half now."
Grey froze, his ears twitching slightly as disbelief washed across his expression.
"Wait, what?!"
