Chapter 405: How Powerful is the Midnight Sun Clan?

Chapter 405

"96..."

"97..."

"98..."

"99..."

"100..."

"Arghhh!" Grey roared in pain as he collapsed to the ground, his chest heaving as his arms throbbed violently. His breathing was ragged, and his eyes slightly blurry as he stared up at the evening sky.

After repeatedly attempting the Hundred Slash technique, Yami had ordered him to start over six tis already before he finally managed to complete it.

And right now, he could barely lift a finger. His arms scread in agony, and to make matters worse, the weights pressing down on him weren’t letting him move easily anymore.

"Congratulations on completing your Hundred Slash." Yami clapped as he strode over, while Grey shot him a death glare—though he was too drained to do anything more than that.

"I’ll allow you a thirty-minute rest, and then we move on to the next basic technique: the Thrust. The goal is to perform all three techniques today, get you in tune with them, and then we’ll focus solely on refining them until it’s ti for you to leave for the academy."

"Whatever," Grey groaned, his body drenched in sweat. His breathing was still shallow and uneven.

"Oh, co on! Don’t be a party pooper." Yami laughed as he sat down beside him, tossing over a bottle of his special juice.

Grey caught it and gulped it down quickly, sighing in mild relief as a wave of energy trickled back into his exhausted body.

"I’m still amazed by this juice. Even though it tastes incredibly bitter, it’s ridiculously potent," Grey comnted, staring at the now-empty bottle.

"Have this too." Yami handed him a yellow pill, which Grey eyed with suspicion.

"What’s this? It looks similar to a pill I once took to help

cultivate my Dantian, but that one was red, and this one’s yellow."

"This will help you recover half of your Ki, and also restore your full energy and stamina," Yami explained.

Grey’s eyes widened in surprise. "Really? Did you make this yourself?"

"Nope. There are alchemists who specialize in making these. Instead of focusing on martial strength, they dedicate themselves to creating powerful pills," Yami replied.

"How many types of pills are there? And what are their functions?" Grey asked, raising a curious eyebrow. Without hesitation, he swallowed the yellow pill. Just as Yami had promised, half his Ki quickly returned to his Dantian, and all the lingering exhaustion in his body vanished like smoke.

’These pills are seriously amazing. They really do what Yami said. I wonder if there’s a pill that can fully refill soone’s Dantian instead of just half,’ Grey thought, clearly impressed.

"There are only three pills in the whole of Vayun," Yami began. "Each color has a distinct function. The green pill increases a person’s movent speed and striking power for two seconds. It’s short, but very effective in battle.

"The yellow pill, like the one you just took, restores half of your Dantian’s Ki and completely removes fatigue, allowing you to continue fighting or training without pause.

"Then there’s the red pill. It helps in breaking through and cultivating a warrior’s Dantian. But these red pills are incredibly expensive and extrely hard to co by. They’re imnsely valuable because each red pill taken is equivalent to five years’ worth of cultivation."

Grey nodded slowly as he took all that in.

"That’s seriously impressive. This continent really does have so incredible things," he said, stroking his chin thoughtfully.

"Yeah, I guess," Yami responded with a shrug. "Even though I said those red pills are rare, the major clans, and even the Midnight Sun Clan, have a stash of them."

Grey quickly turned around, a flicker of surprise in his eyes.

"I’ve been aning to ask. These Midnight guys... what are they? Who are they really? And what’s their deal with ?" Grey asked, glancing sideways at Yami, who simply chuckled.

"The Midnight Sun Clan are the keepers of peace across all factions. They’ve got bases in nearly every region except the Noxarian faction," Yami replied. "You need help? Call on them. Spot a terrorist? Call them. Got a mystery that needs solving? They’re available.

Soone causing trouble in a town or city? Call them, and it gets sorted out quickly. Think of them as a special kind of rcenary force, but much more structured and disciplined."

Grey nodded slowly, absorbing the information. "How strong are they? I an... the whole clan?"

"They’re strong, alright. Strong enough that no faction dares to ss with them—especially their leader," Yami said.

"A leader? Are the big factions wary of him? Why?" Grey asked, his brow furrowed in curiosity.

"According to rumors I’ve heard, the leader of the Midnight Sun Clan wields strange, mystical powers that the Vayun continent has never seen before. Powers only heard of in fairy tales," Yami replied, recalling the stories his father once told him.

"Mystical powers? What’s that even an? What kind of mystical powers are we talking about here?" Grey pressed further.

"Yun warriors who reach the higher stages—around stage 8 and above—can shape their Ki into any elent of their choice. Their bodies gain the properties of the chosen elent, but it’s not the sa as wielding the pure elent itself.

But the Eclipse Sovereign... that’s the scary part. I’ve heard he doesn’t just mimic elents through Ki shaping. He wields the raw elents themselves. That’s what makes him so dangerous, and why no faction wants to step on the toes of the Midnight Sun Clan," Yami explained gravely.

"Wait a second. Eclipse Sovereign?" Grey blinked. "That’s his na?"

"That’s the title given to the leader of the Midnight Sun Clan," Yami clarified. "There are seven ranks—or hierarchies—within the clan.

It starts with the Initiates of the Dying Sun. They’re the fresh recruits or trainees. Next are the Twilight Reapers, who serve as foot soldiers trained in the clan’s techniques and have passed the rigorous recruit stage.

Then we’ve got the Crescent Captains. These warriors command their own squads and are typically around stage 6 in cultivation," Yami continued.

"Crescent Captains? Like that Duke guy and the one you injured before?" Grey asked.

"Exactly," Yami nodded. "After them co the Sunless Generals. These guys lead invasions and are tasked with handling high-stakes operations. I think there are only about three or four of them.

Then we move up to the Dusk Cardinals. These ones... don’t ever ss with them. They move like a storm. Their nas are feared across entire continents. When a threat is deed too massive, they’re dispatched, and with a single move, the threat is erased.

One Dusk Cardinal alone is powerful enough to wipe out entire clans, towns, and possibly cities. They’re only called out for missions of the highest urgency and answer directly to the Eclipse Sovereign."

"And at the top," Grey said, "is the Eclipse Sovereign. The strongest of them all."

"Correct," Yami nodded again.

"Wait! You said seven ranks, but you’ve only ntioned six," Grey pointed out, confused.

"Oh! Right. I forgot to ntion the Shadow Binders. They’re the clan’s assassins. Practically ghosts. They’re not very relevant to the public eye though," Yami said, waving a hand dismissively.

"Hold on a mont," Grey said, rubbing his temples. "If this Eclipse Sovereign guy is that powerful, why haven’t they tried to take over the continent already?"

"That..." Yami chuckled loudly, clearly amused. "Unless they’re ready to go up against the Noxarian faction and the Cromwell family, I say let them try."

"Huh? The Cromwell family? Isn’t that your family na?" Grey asked sharply. "What’s going on? Who are you guys really?"

"I guess we’ll never know... for now," Yami replied vaguely as he stood up and dusted off his trousers. The carefree smile on his face disappeared, replaced by a more serious expression. "Now, give

a hundred thrusts."

"Co on! Is thirty minutes already up?" Grey groaned, his voice heavy with dread.

"If you’ve got the energy to ask silly questions, then you’ve definitely got the energy to give

a hundred thrusts," Yami said, clapping his hands in rhythm to get Grey moving.

"Give

more resting ti. Pretty please?" Grey begged, his eyes turning moist as he tried to pull off a puppy-eyed look.

"Nope! We need to get you ready for the Aetherian Academy’s assessnt next week. That assessnt will determine whether you get into the academy or not," Yami reminded him.

"As if I even want to go," Grey scoffed, dragging himself up to his feet with a tired huff.

"Whatever. Get thrusting now," Yami grinned widely.

And with great reluctance, Grey began his thrust training.
