Wen Lan sighed softly and walked towards the exit of the parking lot, saying as she walked, "President Li is at least President Wei's boss, and their relationship...
Forget it, it's better if you don't pry into other people's business. Just make sure, when you see President Li, to be respectful, sincere, and don't waste ti on useless sches. Just focus on your own work."
Wang Qiang followed behind, nodding thoughtfully, and didn't ask further questions. The two figures gradually rged into the night.
...
The black business car steadily drove out of the parking lot, the tires making a slight vibration as they rolled over the speed bump.
Wei Jia tightened her grip on the steering wheel and glanced at Li Jing, who was resting with his eyes closed in the passenger seat:
"You agreed to the project too hastily. They hadn't even finished introducing their proposal, and you already made a decision. A billion-dollar investnt—if it goes down the drain, it'll be hard to justify to the board."
Li Jing leaned lazily against the leather seat, absentmindedly fiddling with his cufflinks:
"If there's a loss, it's none of my business. This project was your introduction, and Wen Lan is your old acquaintance."
As he spoke, his fingertips traced crooked lines on the foggy car window.
"You agreed to it, so how can it have nothing to do with you?" Wei Jia lightly tapped the brake, the red glow of the traffic light reflected on her cold and beautiful profile.
In the rearview mirror, she saw Li Jing maintaining his frivolous deanor, which irritated her a bit.
Li Jing spread his palms, the corners of his mouth curling into a teasing smile: "Isn't the company entirely managed by Manager Wei? If it's a project you fancy, naturally, I'll fully support it.
Profit and loss are your specialty area; as for those people on the board..." He deliberately elongated the ending, "I trust President Wei can handle it effortlessly."
These words made Wei Jia look again at the man beside her, a trace of complex emotion flashing in her eyes:
"So, you decided so quickly today just because it's a project I recomnded? If soone else had introduced it, you wouldn't have even bothered to look?"
"Of course." Li Jing suddenly leaned closer, "If it weren't for Manager Wei's recomndation, I'd be at ho enjoying the heater right now."
Hearing this, Wei Jia's lips involuntarily curled up slightly, though her tone remained slightly mocking: "Then it seems I hold so status in your heart?"
Li Jing raised an eyebrow, the amusent in his eyes deepening: "Of course. What? Are there tis when even President Wei feels insecure?
I thought Manager Wei, who's so decisive in the business world, could handle any situation with ease."
Wei Jia turned her face away with a light hum: "You have so many won around you, which woman would dare claim she's unique? It's not that I'm insecure, it's just that soone is a bit too 'affectionate'."
The words carried a faint hint of bitterness.
Li Jing threw his head back and laughed: "As the saying goes, won love bad n."
Just as Wei Jia was about to retort, Li Jing sat up straight and said, "Don't go straight at the next intersection—turn right and head to the seaside dock."
"What are we going to the dock for?" Wei Jia instinctively frowned, slightly turning the steering wheel.
"My yacht is docked there." Li Jing pulled out his phone, the blue light from the screen illuminating the triumphant smile on his lips, "The band and bartender are all arranged, and the champagne and fireworks are on their way. Tonight, we'll relax with the sea breeze."
"A yacht party?" Wei Jia frowned as she looked at Li Jing, "I don't like places with a lot of people and distractions…"
"But you promised —tonight, just listen to ." Li Jing shook his phone, showing a layout for the yacht party.
Wei Jia was about to argue, but then she rembered he would be flying overseas in a few days, leaving her, and swallowed her words.
She then suddenly floored the gas pedal, the roar of the engine echoing through the silent streets.
"Slow down!"
Li Jing's body slamd into the seatback with the sudden acceleration, "I don't want to end up in a car accident."
"What, are you wanting to stay alive to chase foreign won?"
Wei Jia said coldly, "This ti you're going abroad, are you thinking of finding a foreign woman?"
"That's indeed one of the plans for this trip abroad."
Li Jing didn't deny it, instead grinning to reveal his canines, "The enthusiasm of Koreans, the openness of the Country of Days, the wildness of Europe and Arica, each has its charm... After all, foreign won and dostic won are different, and I'm curious to see the difference."
Before he could finish speaking, the car suddenly jolted violently, and Wei Jia actually accelerated straight through a red light, the speedoter needle racing upward.
"Hey?! You're running red lights and speeding!" Li Jing was startled and quickly grabbed the handle by the window.
"So what if I break the traffic rules and just get fined? Is that any of your concern?" Wei Jia's hair whipped ssily across her face as she pressed the gas pedal even further.
The wind mixed with saltiness poured in through the window, making Li Jing realize she was genuinely angry this ti.
"Alright, alright, my fault." Li Jing raised his hands in a gesture of surrender, "I won't ntion foreign beauties anymore…"
After he spoke, he glanced over at the driver's seat and saw Wei Jia with tightly pursed lips, her expression icy, finally realizing his joke had gone too far.
"Afraid to die, such a coward," Wei Jia glanced at him, her tone full of disdain.
Li Jing shrugged: "Being afraid to die isn't cowardice; it's a biological instinct. Not fearing death is foolish. This world is beautiful—dying so senselessly, how is it worth it?"
Wei Jia couldn't be bothered to banter with him further. She had been speeding on purpose to scare Li Jing and didn't intend to really put their lives at risk, so she gradually slowed the car back down.
Before long, the vehicle pulled up at the dock.
Sure enough, the yacht was already brilliantly lit, with laughter and music faintly emanating from it.
As Li Jing boarded the yacht, soone imdiately ca down to greet him, accompanying him inside.
Upon stepping aboard, the warm yellow lights revealed a lively scene.
On the central stage, the band was playing passionately, the lead singer's voice blending with the saxophone and drums, echoing throughout the cabin.
By the bar, a few won holding champagne glasses were engaged in cheerful conversation, their jewelry and accessories sparkling under the lights.
Around them, guests either clinked glasses and chatted or swayed gently to the music. Beams of laser light crisscrossed among the crowd, and the sounds of laughter, clinking glasses, and music intertwined, filling the whole space with vibrant energy.
Wei Jia glanced at the bustling scene, then turned to head upstairs.
Seeing Wei Jia go up, Li Jing turned to a finely made-up girl next to him: "Bring us two bottles of wine and so fruit upstairs."
The girl nodded in agreent and quickly left.
Li Jing adjusted the collar of his suit, then turned and followed her up.
Wei Jia reached the upper deck, where the sea breeze tousled her hair. She grasped the railing with both hands, gazing out at the sparkling ocean.
When she heard footsteps behind her, without turning, she already knew it was Li Jing following. Her expression cold, she spoke:
"Your tastes are becoming more and more vulgar. I feel it's more comfortable staying at your place than being here. Inviting all these people makes it so noisy."
Li Jing approached Wei Jia, ready to respond when the girl from earlier arrived with drinks and fruit.
Li Jing motioned for her to place the items on the nearby table, then picked up a glass of wine and handed it to Wei Jia. Taking a glass for himself, he sipped it lightly, then leaned on the railing, gazing out at the boundless sea under the night sky:
"Honestly, I'm not really into these things either. It's just that returning to Tianhai this ti felt a bit stifling, so I wanted to relax a bit.
And this yacht feels too spacious—just the two of us would make it seem too empty.
Letting them have so fun below allows us so peace up here. They won't co up to bother us."
Hearing Li Jing's explanation, Wei Jia felt a bit better.
She recalled what he said earlier and frowned, asking, "Is your bad mood because of Zhang Xinxin?"
Wei Jia was well aware that Li Jing returned primarily to see Zhang Xinxin. Moreover, he's been secretly helping with the private hospital Zhang Xinxin was in, and many other things. She was sowhat inford about Zhang Xinxin's situation.
Li Jing nodded, his tone sowhat subdued: "You could say that. A girl who used to be lively and full of energy now tornted by illness—it's suddenly made realize how fragile life can be.
And it's also a bit sobering how everyone's life destiny is different."
He spoke while turning to look at the other side, just in ti to see Tianhai under the night sky. The skyline was bright, skyscrapers lined the cityscape, and various lights decorated the city with vibrant splendor.
Recalling his past self, he couldn't help but reflect: "Had I not been lucky enough to beco wealthy, I might still be struggling like an ant in this city today…
Or, if I fell ill, there'd be no one to help, and I'd quietly disappear in this prosperous city, with no one rembering ."
Upon hearing this, Wei Jia silently watched Li Jing's face, seeing he truly was reflecting.
Then she raised her glass and took a sip, saying nothing more, just quietly accompanying him, listening to the sound of waves and watching the city lights in the distance.
