Chapter 95: Chapter 95

Sebastian didn’t hesitate to sit right next to Lucien, much to the latter’s displeasure.

"I’m offering this to Winter, not you," Lucien said.

"I’m sure the table is assigned, but not the chair," Sebastian insisted. He smiled at Winter and patted the chair between him and Patricia. "Sit here, darling."

Winter chuckled and sat on the only seat available at the table. She crossed her legs, and gave Lucien a warm smile, "I’m sorry, Lucien. This is the only seat left."

Lucien couldn’t stay angry seeing that warm smile, so he nodded, "It’s fine. I’m also surprised that we’re at the sa table. It must be fate, no?"

"Then, is it also fate for

to sit with you?" Patricia said, and Lucien stopped smiling.

Patricia winked at Winter, and whispered, "I got you. Don’t worry about him."

Winter didn’t understand what was there to be worried about. She had no romantic interest towards Lucien, or Sebastian, or anyone. She was probably aromantic at this point due to trauma.

The event was filled with classic music to calm everyone’s mood. Then, after roughly ten minutes, the music stopped, and the auctioneer ca to the stage to start the auction.

Winter didn’t react when the items ca one by one, and people started bidding until the amount of money didn’t make sense anymore.

Truthfully, Winter didn’t understand why anyone would buy sothing so expensive to adorn themselves. She would rather use it to buy more properties or invest.

’But then again, Aiden bought

a lot of insanely expensive jewelry. So I can’t judge,’ Winter thought. She was passive the whole ti until the auctioneer brought a ruby necklace shaped like a teardrop.

"Our next item is a necklace owned by the last Empress of Prussia. It has been a family heirloom for a century before getting sold and donated for our auction today. The bid will start from one hundred thousand dollars—"

"One hundred and ten!"

"One hundred fifty!"

"Two hundred!"

"Two hundred and fifty!"

The auctioneer was surprised because everyone quickly bid on the item before he even started.

anwhile, Winter had been clenching her bidder number. She bit her lower lip as she held back from lifting her bidder number up.

She didn’t have a certain love for shiny things, but that teardrop necklace was one that Aiden promised to her before his death.

He showed the picture of the teardrop and the history to Winter and asked if she wanted it, which in response she said;

-

’You’ve given

enough. I don’t need that much jewelry. It’s not like I’m going out a lot.’

’I know. I just like giving you stuff. You know, it makes

feel good whenever I can see a smile on your face. You might say you don’t like it, but I know you like being gifted,’ Aiden said.

’You can give

broccoli and I’ll smile too.’

’Why a broccoli?’ Aiden laughed. ’Oh well, I heard this item will be auctioned soon. So I’m planning to get it for you.’

’Don’t get it for

if it’s too expensive. I don’t want to poke a hole in your wallet for sothing trivial.’

-

Winter truly didn’t fancy the ruby. If she truly had to choose, she’d prefer sapphire or diamond.

But the fact that Aiden wanted to buy it for her was enough of a reason for her to bid for it.

Thus, after she braced herself, she lifted her number and said, "One million."

"One million dollars! Give

two million dollars!" The auctioneer said.

Everyone at her table darted their eyes at her. They were all surprised because Winter had never been the one who bid. She’d attend any event as a participant, but it was Aiden who’d usually raise the number. She’d just sit still and look pretty throughout the event.

Unfortunately, another woman already put in her bid.

"Two million."

"Two million dollars! Going three!" The auctioneer said.

Winter was stumped.

Of course, she had more than one million dollars in her savings, but she didn’t want to waste too much money on jewelry.

"Wife, do you want it?" Sebastian asked.

Winter nodded, but she didn’t give any explanation.

Sebastian had a big smile as he was ready to lift his bidder number. He might not be as rich as Aiden, at least not yet. But he had more than enough in his savings (and if necessary, he’d also sell his assets) to buy that jewelry, as long as Winter wanted it.

However before he could raise his bidder number, Lucien already beat him to it and said, "Five million dollars."

"Five million dollars! This is amazing. Going up, anyone?" The auctioneer waited for soone else to make a bigger offer.

Lucien grinned smugly at Sebastian, then said to Winter, "Don’t worry, Winter. I’ll get it for you."

"No, you don’t need to," Winter refused. "I don’t find it pretty anyway."

"You say that, but I know that you want it," Lucien said. "So, it’s fine. Take it as a gift from . Hmm, you can always invite

for dinner in exchange, alright?"

Winter gulped.

She didn’t mind inviting Lucien for dinner. She would even cook for him for the help he gave to her company.

’Then, should I bake him a cake too? Five million dollars is a lot,’ Winter thought.

Sebastian gritted his teeth when he saw that Winter already faltered. It was obvious that she really wanted that ruby necklace.

Five million dollars was a lot of money for his current financial status.

’Damn it, if only I can take all of my money before I shoot myself. I’d bid that necklace to thirty million dollars and not bat an eye,’ Sebastian cursed himself. As soone who had successfully lifted the status of Goldmine Realty from a multi-million dollar company to a billion-dollar one, he was extrely wealthy. He could’ve spoiled Winter with all that money, but Winter died too early for him to do so.
