After leaving Chu Fang, Liu Changqing headed over to where Chen Dafu was staying.
The mont he saw Liu Changqing walk in, Chen Dafu lit up with excitent. He quickly got up from his hospital bed and hurried over to ask,
“How’d it go? Did she agree? When can I go in for the job interview?”
“……”
Seeing how excited he was, Liu Changqing went silent for a mont. He just stared at him for a bit, then led him back to the bed.
He pressed Chen Dafu down to sit and pulled up a chair for himself.
After a brief pause, he finally opened his mouth.
“Dafu… I found the guy who attacked you.”
“Huh?”
Chen Dafu clearly didn’t follow at first. He never expected Liu Changqing to bring that up. After a mont of stunned silence, he quickly asked,
“Who the h**l hit ?! Did you get him locked up?”
“……”
“Old Liu, say sothing!”
“It was my son…”
“……”
Chen Dafu was stunned.
He stared at Liu Changqing, whose face was filled with guilt. Before he could respond, Liu Changqing continued,
“He was walking a classmate ho that night, and when he saw you sneaking around near the bike shed… he thought you were so stalker, a pervert or sothing. So he decided to strike first.”
“Uh…”
“And the girl you’re into? She works at a shop run by my son’s classmate’s mom. I went to talk to her earlier this afternoon too…”
“……”
“Long story short… I’m kinda familiar with the shop owner, but since the shop was passed down to her by family, it’s not really sothing I can just buy outright. So I…”
“……”
Chen Dafu completely fell silent.
After listening to the whole story, he didn’t make any extra movents. He just fixed Liu Changqing with a sharp, unwavering stare.
Then suddenly, he cracked a grin.
“So it was your kid who hit , huh? Then never mind!”
“You… you’re not mad?”
“Of course I’m mad! If it weren’t your kid, I’d have tossed him in the river to feed the fish!”
“That’s a bit extre, don’t you think…”
“Extre? Your kid was practically trying to beat to death! If I wasn’t tough as hell, who knows if I’d even be here right now!”
“……”
“But hey, what can you do… Since it was my little nephew who jumped , I’ll let it go. Just a busted head anyway.”
After saying that, Chen Dafu nonchalantly rolled back onto his bed and folded his arms behind his head. But he forgot he had a head injury—he imdiately let out a painful howl.
Hearing that, Liu Changqing couldn’t help but feel moved.
Looking at Chen Dafu groaning in pain on the bed, his heart ward.
He never imagined Dafu would be such a loyal guy…
“But don’t worry. I talked it over with her—once you recover, you can start working there. Don’t worry about the pay… her family’s not well-off, and it’s not like you’re strapped for cash. They’re not going to try matchmaking or anything though, so whether it works out or not is up to you.”
“Really?!”
Chen Dafu, who was just grimacing in pain, perked up instantly.
“Yeah… just don’t go overboard. Don’t scare the poor girl.”
“No problem!”
Watching Chen Dafu so thrilled, Liu Changqing gave him a few more reminders:
Like—
Don’t constantly bother Gu Xiyu while working.
Stop following her around in secret trying to create “surprises.”
Chen Dafu agreed to all of it without hesitation.
After saying his piece, Liu Changqing got up to leave. Before heading out, he rembered Dafu hadn’t really eaten, so he went downstairs to buy him so food and brought it back.
Once everything was settled, Liu Changqing drove ho.
But on the way, a thought popped into his head—he made a detour to buy so roasted pig trotters from the sa shop An Yuanyao liked last ti. Ever since then, she hadn’t stopped talking about them.
The doctor had said it was okay for her to eat, just not too much.
Liu Changqing rembered everything.
It had been quite a while since An Yuanyao last had pig trotters, so today he decided to treat her.
When he got ho, he saw Liu Xiazhi had already returned from school. She was sitting on the couch, hugging An Yuanyao’s arm, looking super upset, her legs folded under her.
Seeing this scene, Liu Changqing closed the door and changed into his cotton slippers. He walked over, puzzled, and asked,
“What’s going on?”
As soon as she saw him co in, An Yuanyao comforted the tearful Liu Xiazhi a bit, then quickly got up from the sofa.
She walked over to Liu Changqing, grabbed his arm, and pulled him aside.
Dragged away for no apparent reason, Liu Changqing was full of confusion. He hadn’t even opened his mouth when he saw An Yuanyao glance back toward the couch, where Liu Xiazhi was still sulking. Then she cupped her hand by her mouth, tiptoed closer, and whispered in his ear.
“Xiazhi said she—”
“Mm~”
Before she could finish, Liu Changqing let out a weird sound.
That clearly threw An Yuanyao off.
Liu Changqing reached up and covered his ears, instinctively stepping back a little, and whispered back,
“I told you my ears are sensitive… when you talk that close to , it makes my skin crawl!”
“……”
Silent, An Yuanyao gave him a slap on the arm.
“Be serious! This is important, stop ssing around!”
“I’m not ssing around!”
“Okay, okay, I won’t whisper in your ear anymore!”
Seeing how serious he looked, An Yuanyao gave in. But she still leaned in slightly to avoid upsetting Liu Xiazhi again and whispered,
“Xiazhi got into an argunt with so sixth graders at school today. When she ca ho right after dismissal—right when you’d gone out—she ran in crying as soon as I opened the door…”
“That really happened?”
Hearing his daughter had been wronged, Liu Changqing’s laid-back attitude vanished. He instantly beca stern.
“Which brat had the nerve to ss with Xiazhi? I’ll go to the school first thing tomorrow and get to the bottom of this!”
“It’s not that serious… it’s just…”
“Just what?”
“Well…”
An Yuanyao hesitated, glancing over at Liu Xiazhi lying on the couch. Then she finally said it.
“During PE… they had free ti and were playing on the horizontal bars. Xiazhi couldn’t get up, and a few sixth-grade girls from another class happened to see. They started laughing at her… so Xiazhi got mad and challenged them…”
“That’s fair enough. So how’d the argunt start?”
“Let finish…”
An Yuanyao seed to recall the scene and continued, her expression a bit worried.
“While playing on the bar… she didn’t grip it properly and slipped off. She didn’t fall completely, but right nearby—who knows from where—a dog had left a pile of poop. Xiazhi accidentally stepped in it…”
