After buying the electric fan, Liu Changqing passed by a roadside stall selling small accessories. He glanced over and was imdiately drawn to a piece of jade—a rabbit holding a carrot.
It was a small pendant, about four to five centiters in size.
After asking for the price and finding it reasonable, Liu Changqing bought it for 20 yuan. Once he paid, he casually stuffed the jade into his pocket, then carried his small fan and got on the bus.
When he returned to the company and pushed open the door to An Yuanyao’s office, he saw her staring intently at the computer screen, her right hand scrolling the mouse wheel.
The mont she noticed Liu Changqing entering, she panicked and hastily clicked the mouse, her expression guilty, like soone caught in the act. She forced a stiff smile.
“You… why are you back so soon?”
Hearing her words, Liu Changqing was slightly puzzled. He was certain she had been secretly looking at sothing questionable but couldn’t figure out what it was.
Walking forward, he said helplessly, “If you were a guy, I’d assu you were watching so weird videos.”
“Huh?”
“Move back a bit, I’ll plug in the fan for you.”
He reached out and gently pushed An Yuanyao’s chair. Noticing his movent, she gripped the armrests and scooted backward.
Crouching down, Liu Changqing placed the fan on the left side of the desk and plugged the power cord into the socket near the table leg. Then he stood up and tore off the plastic packaging, crumpling it into a ball before tossing it into the small trash bin beside him.
He pressed the first speed setting. The fan blades began to spin, sending out a gentle breeze. The fan head swayed left and right until Liu Changqing reached out and turned off the oscillation function.
“Feel better now?” he asked, glancing at An Yuanyao.
The fan’s speed was low, and since it was a small electric fan, the power wasn’t strong enough to do much more than ruffle her hair.
Enjoying the cool air, An Yuanyao closed her eyes for a mont before smiling at him. “It’s nice.”
As the breeze lifted her hair, she reached up and tucked it behind her ear. Sunlight stread through the window, casting a glow on her fair skin. When she lifted her hand, her delicate fingers looked almost as smooth as jade—long, slender, and free of any gaudy nail polish.
Liu Changqing froze for a mont before snapping back to his senses. He shook his head slightly, clearing his stray thoughts, then covered his mouth with his hand and coughed lightly, as if trying to hide sothing.
“As long as it helps. Anyway… I’ll turn off the big fan now.”
With that, he walked over to the wall switch and turned off the ceiling fan.
Afterward, he stood beside An Yuanyao, slipping his hand into his pocket as if searching for sothing. Just as he was about to speak, she suddenly called out to him.
“Liu Changqing.”
“Hmm? What’s up?”
He pulled his hand out of his pocket and looked at her.
An Yuanyao clutched her stomach, her eyebrows furrowing slightly.
“I… I ate an ice pop, and now my stomach feels a bit off. I want to leave early today… Is that okay?”
“Huh? Stomachache?”
Liu Changqing was surprised and leaned in slightly. “Is it… that ti of the month?”
“No, it’s just… my stomach has always been weak. After eating the ice pop, I started feeling unwell. I have dicine at ho, so I just need to go back and take so…”
“Alright, get up, I’ll drive you ho. Can you stand?”
“I can…”
Since they weren’t that close, Liu Changqing didn’t feel comfortable helping her up directly. Instead, he watched as she slowly stood while still holding her stomach.
He picked up her bag and walked beside her as they left the office.
As they disappeared through the door, a male employee sitting at the far end let out a long sigh and mumbled, “Here we go again…”
Once in the car, Liu Changqing waited for An Yuanyao to settle in before starting the engine and pulling away. The ride was mostly silent, but from ti to ti, he glanced at her face.
She really did look like she was in pain—he could tell from her slightly strained expression.
It didn’t take long to reach her ho. Liu Changqing parked the car and handed her bag back to her.
Taking it, An Yuanyao said, “You should head back. I’ll just take so dicine and rest for a bit…”
“Alright, drink so warm water.”
“Mm…”
After a few more reminders, Liu Changqing watched her walk into the residential neighborhood. Only after she turned a corner and disappeared did he return to his car.
Sitting in the driver’s seat, he rested one hand on the steering wheel, deep in thought. Then, he suddenly rembered the jade in his pocket.
Taking it out, he placed it in his palm, staring at it absentmindedly.
After a while, he chuckled softly.
I’ll give it to her next ti.
Putting the jade back in his pocket, he started the car and drove away.
A few minutes later, from beside the security booth, a head cautiously peeked out, glancing around to make sure no one was nearby.
An Yuanyao, clutching her bag, stepped out.
After scanning her surroundings, she quickly walked to the roadside and flagged down a taxi, leaving the area.
Liu Changqing, driving back, had no idea that everything just now had been an act.
As he drove, his face remained serious.
I really need to be more mindful.
n and won are different—won shouldn’t eat too many cold things. Zhao Xuanwen had already warned him once, and now An Yuanyao had reinforced that lesson.
When he got ho, he was going to ban his daughter from eating ice pops. She had already had two today.
Arriving at his destination, Liu Changqing parked his car and headed back into the company. He returned to An Yuanyao’s office and sat down in her chair, letting the fan blow on his face for a while.
After sitting like that for a mont, sothing ca to mind. He straightened up and looked at An Yuanyao’s still-open computer.
He suddenly rembered how secretive she had been earlier.
Wouldn’t checking soone else’s browser history be an invasion of privacy?
Even as that thought surfaced, his hand moved on its own.
Gripping the mouse, he double-clicked to open the browser and pulled up the browsing history.
He clicked on the most recent entry.
As the page loaded, a forum post popped up in front of him.
