Philip attempted to defend himself, "Jessica, it was after work hours."
"That’s enough!" Jessica interrupted him. "For violating company discipline during work hours, leading others in breaking rules, you will be deducted three days of basic salary, and spend two days in the janitorial departnt for reflection before returning to work!"
I smirked; this punishnt was rely a scratch for Philip. His high performance and hefty commissions were his true sources of inco. Moreover, the assignnt to the janitorial departnt didn’t involve actual toilet cleaning, it was just a period of reflection. Such a punishnt seed too lenient.
Although I felt a twinge of dissatisfaction, I also understood that Philip’s position in the marketing departnt was irreplaceable. His performance was his strongest defense, and even the higher-ups had to turn a blind eye to his antics.
For Jessica to truly te out severe punishnt—easier said than done.
Philip clenched his teeth, managing to force out a few words. "Yes, I will comply with Jessica’s arrangent."
Jessica’s gaze turned cold as she looked at . "Are you satisfied now?"
With a wry smile, I responded resignedly, "Alright. Your decision is wise."
At the opportune mont, lody interjected, extending a gesture of invitation, "Then, Mr. Walker, please join us in the conference room." Edward nodded and gestured to . "Co, William."
I followed Edward into the conference room. Although my monthly performance evaluations were consistently blank, I knew that as soon as I signed the order, its value would equate to years of hard work for others. The display of power was undeniable.
In the confines of the conference room, negotiations were proceeding without a hitch. Philip had ticulously ironed out all the details, leaving Edward with the simple task of affixing his signature to the docunts.
A sense of satisfaction washed over as everything began to align in my favor.
"Mr. Walker, given the magnitude of the project funding, I will be assuming full responsibility for this project!" Jessica announced with an air of authority.
Her words left puzzled.
The ink had barely dried on the signed papers, and already they were scheming to carve out a portion of my well-earned success.
"And I will be monitoring its progress closely," lody chid in.
Their audacity was infuriating!
What were these two won scheming?
What was their endga?
I was on the verge of voicing my concerns when Edward interjected with a firm resolve. "That won’t be necessary. I only recognize William’s authority on this project. Anyone else is irrelevant! I will arrange for soone to work closely with William. I appreciate your intentions, Jessica and lody." Jessica hastily interjected, "Mr. Walker, William lacks the experience to handle such a multi-million dollar project..."
"Don’t worry, Jessica. I will strive to et Mr. Walker’s expectations!" I retorted.
Edward’s unwavering support demanded my utmost effort.
If he was willing to extend his assistance, it was only right for to reciprocate.
"William, this isn’t a ga!" lody cautioned.
"I am fully aware, lody. Mr. Walker has placed his trust in ; I have no intention of betraying it."
I smiled faintly, wondering about their hidden agenda. Did they really think I was oblivious to their machinations?
Both won appeared sowhat defeated, and Edward rose gracefully. "Let’s leave it at that. If anyone other than William is put in charge of the project, our cooperation ends here."
After exiting the conference room, I accompanied Edward to the building’s entrance. "Edward, I can’t thank you enough for today. I’m not one for grand speeches, but I promise you, I will not let you down."
Edward clapped a hand on my shoulder, "William, I’ve been contemplating how to express my gratitude. This project is a token of my appreciation. The kindness you showed my sister is sothing I can never repay in this lifeti. But when I said I wanted to be your friend, I ant it. As friends, it’s only natural that we help each other. Today, I lend you a hand. Perhaps, in the future, I might need your help too."
His words resonated deeply within . Little did I know that his next statent would one day ring true. But that was a story for another ti.
"Edward, could you share the contact information of the person overseeing your company? I’d like to get in touch."
He chuckled, "Don’t worry, she’ll reach out to you soon enough."
"Take care, Edward."
As I watched Edward depart, I made my way back upstairs to the janitorial room.
Unexpectedly, I bumped into Philip, who had already packed up his belongings and placed them on my desk.
"Well, well, if it isn’t the sales champion, eager to claim my spot."
I entered the room with a smile.
Seeing the resentnt in Philip’s eyes, I retorted, "Don’t get ahead of yourself, Philip. Fortunes can turn on a di, and one day I will crush you."
"Alright, I’ll be waiting."
I collected my belongings and left, silently vowing to never give him that satisfaction.
The workplace was a battlefield. Once I’d gained the upper hand, I intended to keep it.
Whistling a cheerful tune, I sauntered into the office. It was as if soone had hit the pause button; the usually bustling marketing departnt fell silent.
Every pair of eyes turned to .
Surprised, huh? I’m back, this ti as the victor.
As I settled into my desk, the marketing departnt resud its usual cacophony.
"William!"
Mia glided over in her chair, leaning back with a grin.
