Chapter 218 — THE DECISION

The sky above the broken city had turned the color of dusk.

Smoke from burning districts drifted upward through the clouds, mixing with the erald storm radiating from the Jade Dragon’s massive body. The wind carried ash and dust through the air, swirling across rooftops and shattered highways.

Sirens still wailed below.

Helicopters still fought the unstable air currents.

But everyone who could see the sky had stopped moving.

Because sothing had changed.

High above the city—

Long Hao hovered motionless.

Void energy curled around his body in slow, spiraling currents, darker than before, denser than before, as if the air itself had grown heavier around him.

Across the battlefield, the Jade Dragon watched.

Its enormous erald eyes narrowed slightly.

"You hesitate."

The dragon’s voice rolled through the clouds like distant thunder.

Long Hao did not answer.

Inside his mind—

The battlefield was silent.

The chaos of the outside world faded into darkness.

And in that quiet space stood Longyu.

Her figure glowed faintly with soft golden light.

For the first ti since he had known her, her face was completely clear.

She looked younger than he expected.

Almost fragile.

Yet her eyes held sothing ancient.

"...You understand now," she said softly.

Long Hao rubbed the back of his neck.

"Yeah."

He looked down at his hands.

Even here, the shadow of void energy curled faintly around his fingers.

"That thing out there is right."

Longyu nodded.

"...You are incomplete."

Long Hao sighed.

"I’m starting to hate that word."

He glanced up at her again.

"So rging with the system fixes that."

"...Yes."

"And if I don’t?"

Longyu hesitated.

"...Then you will lose."

The quiet certainty in her voice made him exhale slowly.

Outside—

The Jade Dragon’s erald aura surged again.

The massive creature hovered patiently in the sky, wings spread wide like enormous blades cutting through the clouds.

"You delay."

Its voice echoed across the battlefield.

"The outco remains unchanged."

Long Hao ignored it.

Inside his mind, he looked at Longyu again.

"You said I might not remain the sa."

Longyu nodded slowly.

"...The Sovereign system was never ant to coexist with a human consciousness."

Long Hao raised an eyebrow.

"Comforting."

She lowered her gaze slightly.

"...Your identity may change."

"...Your mind may evolve."

"...Your existence may beco sothing else."

Long Hao folded his arms.

"So basically."

"I might stop being ."

Longyu did not answer.

Which was answer enough.

Outside—

The Jade Dragon inhaled slowly.

Erald light gathered beneath its scales again.

The sky trembled as energy began building for another devastating attack.

The Eight watched nervously from scattered rooftops below.

Han wiped dust from his forehead.

"He’s been floating there for thirty seconds."

Nyx nodded.

"He’s thinking."

Han frowned.

"That’s not good."

Above them—

The Jade Dragon’s aura intensified further.

"You waste ti."

Its voice deepened.

"Then perish."

The dragon moved.

Its massive body surged forward through the sky like a collapsing mountain.

Its claw descended toward Long Hao with terrifying speed.

Inside his mind—

Long Hao sighed.

"Well."

He scratched his head.

"This conversation is about to beco irrelevant."

Longyu looked at him quietly.

"...You still have ti."

Long Hao smiled faintly.

"That thing outside?"

"Not big on patience."

He looked at her again.

"You’re part of this system."

"...Yes."

"And the Anchor."

"...Yes."

Long Hao nodded slowly.

"Then you’re risking sothing too."

Longyu didn’t respond imdiately.

After a mont she spoke quietly.

"...I already did."

Long Hao frowned.

"What does that an?"

But before she could answer—

The dragon’s claw slamd down.

Outside—

The impact detonated across the sky.

But Long Hao moved.

For the last ti as he was now.

Void energy surged around his fists as he blocked the strike.

"Void Breaker!"

The shockwave ripped across the clouds.

The Jade Dragon pushed downward.

Long Hao’s arms trembled under the pressure.

The dragon’s voice echoed above him.

"You weaken."

Long Hao gritted his teeth.

"Yeah."

The dragon’s claw forced him downward.

The sky blurred around him as the impact drove him toward the city.

"You fall."

Long Hao whispered quietly.

"...Longyu."

Inside his mind—

The girl nodded.

"...Then we begin."

Outside—

Long Hao’s eyes closed.

The void energy surrounding his body deepened suddenly.

Not expanding.

Condensing.

The Jade Dragon paused.

Sothing was changing.

The dragon spoke slowly.

"What do you do?"

Long Hao’s voice answered calmly.

"Trying sothing new."

Inside his mind—

Longyu raised her hand.

Golden light spread outward through the darkness.

"...Initiating system integration."

The darkness around them shifted.

Ancient symbols appeared across the void.

Fragnts of the system interface ford around Long Hao like drifting constellations.

A deep chanical voice echoed through the space.

[SOVEREIGN SYSTEM CORE — ONLINE]

Long Hao blinked.

"Alright."

"That’s new."

Longyu stepped closer.

"...You must accept full synchronization."

"aning?"

"..plete rge."

Long Hao scratched his chin.

"So no half asures."

"...No."

He sighed.

"Well."

He looked up toward the fading image of the Jade Dragon outside.

"That thing’s about to drop a city block on ."

Longyu nodded.

"...Then decide."

For a mont—

Long Hao said nothing.

He looked at his hands.

At the fragnts of void energy swirling around his fingers.

Then he rembered the city.

The fires.

The collapsing buildings.

The helicopters carrying injured civilians away.

The Eight still fighting even though they were exhausted.

He exhaled slowly.

"Alright."

Longyu looked at him carefully.

"...You choose."

Long Hao smiled faintly.

"I choose not dying today."

Then he raised his hand.

"Let’s do it."

The system voice echoed again.

[FULL SYSTEM RGE CONFIRD]

Golden light erupted across the void.

Longyu’s form dissolved into streams of radiant energy.

They surged toward Long Hao’s chest.

He gasped slightly as the energy entered his body.

The system voice deepened.

[SOVEREIGN CORE UNLOCKING]

Outside—

The Jade Dragon’s eyes widened.

The void energy around Long Hao collapsed inward suddenly.

The dragon stepped back slightly.

"What is this?"

The sky darkened.

The clouds above the battlefield twisted into a massive spiral.

Below—

The Eight stared upward.

Han blinked slowly.

"...That’s new."

Nyx’s voice was quiet.

"The system is changing."

Above them—

Long Hao’s body began glowing.

Black and gold light spread across his chest.

The eclipse sigil burned brighter than ever before.

Inside him—

Sothing ancient awakened.

The Jade Dragon’s voice rumbled across the sky.

"You awaken the Sovereign."

Long Hao opened his eyes.

They glowed faintly with golden light.

"Looks like it."

The sky trembled.

And the transformation began.
