Lenax and Prism

"First of all, I want the two of you to tell about yourselves." Christopher said and looked at two of his new subordinates before facing Lenax.

"You start." He said, his tone curious. He wanted to know what would cause a proud dragon to offer its loyalty to a group of people who wanted to destroy the world.

"As you know Master, my na is Lenax. And I stem from the water dragon tribe." He started, his gaze complicated.

"I… used to be one of the close attendants of his Majesty, the second in command to my forr commander Zephyr and helped him lead a legion of dragons." As he explained, Christopher noted how he put everything into past tense, but he made no move to point it out.

"My life thus far has been… calm, I suppose. I was talented enough to reach my forr position and gain favour in the sight of my elder. For the most part, my life was fairly good as far as dragons went." Hearing this, Christopher tilted his head.

"Yet you still betrayed them." Lenax nodded slightly when he heard this.

"That is correct." He said calmly.

"Why?" Lenax sighed at the question.

"Precisely that reason, Master. Life thus far has been too calm for my race." Christopher furrowed his brows at this but gestured to Zephyr to continue.

"Us Dragons, have the title of the strongest race in the world, we are fad for our incredible strength and Mana control that very few individuals can compare to and are idolised for those reasons and more." He sighed, looking a bit wistful.

"However, as ti passed, I discovered that little by little, our race was gradually becoming weaker. With each generation that padded, the overall combat power of a dragon would be slightly less than those of the previous generation. And as for the reason for this." Lenax's tone turned slightly serious.

"It's because we beca too complacent. The points I ntioned before about why our race is so respected shows that by default, we are a combat race. We have these endownts so that we can fight. Buy due to the lack of an existential threats that can cause us to feel threatened and actually take the initiative to grow stronger instead of rely relying on our heritage, we've gradually weakened. There's no pressure to strengthen ourselves, dragons no longer make partners with those that are as strong so that their children have the appropriate bloodline purity. We'd beco… lazy." When he finished, Christopher nodded with a thoughtful look on his face.

"Basically, the dragon race was gradually falling from grace because there was nothing to put them under pressure, so you joined the Voidwalkers to help them sowhat so that a sufficiently powerful threat would appear and generate that pressure your race requires to return to its forr glory, correct?" Lenax nodded.

"That Is correct. It's an extre asure, but if it worked, my race would be deserving of its title as the strongest." Lenax sighed. Read new adventures at empire

"Who knows, if this pressure I seek existed, I might not have lost to you. Not that it matters now." Hearing this, Christopher fell silent.

On one hand, he wanted to chastise Lenax. The Voidwalkers were doing sothing so dangerous that if left unchecked, the entire world would get destroyed, and if that happened, it wouldn't matter how good your race was or is, everyone would be dead.

But on the other hand, Christopher couldn't really think of a scenario that would be able to generate such pressure for the dragons. The only other ti they had their hands forced to the point of the entire race having to grow just to deal with an issue was the existential threat that led to the creation of the Legend Sword, and the issue surrounding the weapon itself.

Thousands of years had passed since then, and with no real danger that could pose a genuine threat to any of them, they had beco complacent. Even the seemingly perfect dragons weren't immune to the effects of laziness.

Lenax realised this and beca satisfied with the status quo. He probably felt a bit anxious as, what if they grew so complacent that those mbers of weaker races would have an easier ti taking out dragons, and the invincible race wouldn't be so invincible anymore? That would put them under heavy strain.

So his solution to that problem was to help generate a threat that would force the race as a whole to step up. After all, he couldn't just go and say 'hey, our race has gotten weaker lately, so let's change that.' It was so simple, sadly.

Now did Christopher agree with his logic? Not in the slightest. The Voidwalkers literally wanted to undo the planet. If the succeeded then all that desire for his race to grow stronger wouldn't matter since they'd all be dead.

However, while he didn't agree with it, he understood the logic to a degree.

If you grew up having the knowledge that your family was the best of the best, but as you grew up, you found out that, while they were still the best, the gap between them and other families was slowly shrinking, you'd naturally feel inclined to make sure that gap stops closing and widens once more. And if normal ans don't work, you might find appropriate to resort to more drastic asures.

That's what was happening with Lenax.

He believed that, while the Voidwalkers were a genuine threat, helping them would be worth it as long as he achieved his goal.

It was twisted, but to him, of it worked, it worked.

"Hm. I understand your logic behind it, but belive when I say you're twisted in the head." Christopher said calmly and Lenax averted his gaze.

"Don't worry though." This made the dragon perk up and furrow his brows.

"You're worried about your race becoming too weak? Well, that might be resolved sooner than you think." This sent Lenax for a loop, but he made no move to explain as he turned to his other new subordinate who lowered her head under his gaze.

"You're Prism?" Christopher asked and she nodded softly.

"I greet The Master." She said softly. Her voice was soft like flowing water and was easy on the ears.

"Alrighy, tell about yourself." Hearing this, Prism looked up and stared at Christopher with her Prism like eyes and said without hesitation.

"I belong to the Mirror Dinsion as the master knows. I am actually an illegitimate child between the Prince of one of the Mirror Kingdoms and a MirrorSpawn. I didn't inherit any of the special abilities or bloodline of my father, so not only was I acknowledged, I was exiled so that I wouldn't bring sha upon the royal family.

"I knew next to nothing about fighting and had no allies. As such, I was eventually captured by the inhabitants of your world, and now I'm here." When she finished, she gave a small curtsey and Christopher nodded.

He felt a bit sympathetic for her, that was definitely a la experience, being treated badly for being born when you didn't even ask for it, getting exiled the mont you got old enough and then getting captured. Most people would just give up.

However, Christopher noticed a certain fire in her eyes. A clear and unrestrained determination that burned in the very depths of her soul.

'Hm, reminds of myself.' Christopher noted. However, where his determination was to find Joan, hers was filled with an obvious rage, and it wasn't hard to guess where the rage was directed. She wanted revenge.

"Master, before now, I was exceedingly weak with trash talent among my peers. But not only have you saved , but you've also made much, much stronger. And I can feel my talent has skyrocketed. Now I have a chance to grow enough to seek revenge against those who wronged . And I thank you." As she said that she bowed her head.

Christopher sighed. At this point, he was immune to such displays of gratitude and loyalty. Now that didn't an he didn't like them, but he wasn't prone to getting all flustered about it like before.

Actually he didn't get flustered before but you get the point.

"Well, it's indeed fortunate that you ended up in my hands." Christopher nodded and she looked up at him with glittering eyes. That was not an exaggeration as her eyes were quite literally glittering.

Christopher resisted the urge to pat her head and thought for a mont.

'Hmm, the only thing pending now seems to be the others. They should co back so that I can level up the Dinsio-' Before his thought process could be completed, he suddenly felt nurous familiar presences appear around him.

"Well, nice timing." Christopher mumbled as the mbers of his cohort all gathered near him.

So of them seed a little disheveled, but that was about it. There weren't any injuries so it was safe to assu that their missions had been completed flawlessly. This was even more clear by the satisfied smiles on each of their faces, especially Thanatos, the Lich seed like he'd just had a great day.

"Phew, that was fun. That Void creature is unlike anything I've fought before. Definitely an interesting experience." Belladonna said and stretched, carelessly showing off her curves which were even more pronounced now that she'd taken off her armour.

"Mhm! You should have seen us, Chiara was just spamming these giant light swords from the sky! The faces of the Voidwalker was priceless!" Umbra laughed.

The group group kept chatting and completely ignored the presences of their new mbers while Christopher kept giving them complints. It was only after a while that he spoke.

"Now that those things are out of the way, there's sothing important I need to tell you guys." Hearing this, everyone perked up and Christopher let out a low grin.

"This place is gonna beco a lot bigger really soon."
