[collapse]

Chitose gestured, and the bastards around her moved. Four of them. The kind that had no hesitation in kicking soone already bleeding out. I had seen enough of them in alleys and backstreets.

They wouldn’t get another chance.

First one lunged. He had a gauntlet similar to Chitose’s, but bigger. Heavy swings, slower movent. Second bastard had so kind of shockwave Quirk, trying to keep at range. The third and fourth? No obvious tells, but I would figure it out fast.

Gauntlet guy swung wide. I ducked, felt the wind shift above , then drove my fist into his ribs. Hard enough to crack. He staggered, wheezing, and I used his weight against him, twisting and slamming his face into the pavent. Blood sared against the cracked concrete. He didn’t get back up.

The shockwave fucker fired. I shifted my weight, cutting left, letting the blast tear through empty space where I had been standing. He adjusted, eyes scanning, but he was too slow.

[QUICK STEP ACTIVATED.]

I blurred.

Reappeared behind him. My baton cracked against his skull. His legs folded, body collapsing before his brain caught up.

The last two rushed together. One had a knife, moving fast, stabbing low. The other was playing backup, waiting for an opening.

[SHATTERPOINT ACTIVATED.]

Knife guy had too much weight on his front leg. A feint and he would overcommit. Backup bastard? Kept adjusting his stance… he had sothing planned, waiting for to slip.

I didn’t.

Knife guy lunged. I sidestepped, twisted, and slamd the baton into his wrist. The blade clattered onto the pavent. Before he could react, I kicked his knee out and drove my elbow into his jaw.

Backup tried to capitalize, but I caught his wrist mid-swing. He was holding a baton. I twisted his arm, forcing the baton from his grip. His scream barely left his throat before I grabbed his collar and drove my knee into his stomach.

He dropped.

All down.

I turned to Chitose.

She wasn’t smiling anymore.

"You are making this difficult," she said, rolling her shoulders. Her gauntlet hissed as it locked into place. "I hate difficult."

"Yeah?" I flexed my fingers. "I hate bitches. But here we are."

She flicked her wrist. The ground under pulsed.

[INSTINCTIVE AWARENESS ACTIVATED.]

I shifted right, barely avoiding the explosion as the pavent shattered where I had stood. My boot skidded against the broken concrete. Another pulse. I moved again.

"Fun, isn’t it?" she taunted. "You don’t know where I left them. Could be anywhere. Every step? A gamble."

[VEILPIERCER ACTIVATED.]

The landmines flickered into view… small distortions in the air, dozens of them scattered across the battlefield.

I laughed. "You are so fucked."

Chitose’s brow furrowed.

I stepped forward, fast. She twitched, and another mine detonated behind , but I was already moving, cutting through the gaps between them.

She swung the gauntlet. I caught her wrist, twisting. tal groaned.

She drove her knee up. I blocked, shoving her back. She skidded, recalibrating.

[WARPATH MONTUM STACKING.]

[STORM FIST CHARGING.]

Chitose exhaled sharply. "Fine. Let’s finish this."

I grinned. "Gladly."

She flicked her wrist again. A detonation went off near my side. I twisted, rolling with the force, barely missing a direct hit. My jacket smoldered from the heat.

She rushed in, swinging the gauntlet. I parried, stepped inside her reach, and slamd my fist into her ribs. She gasped, staggering. Before she could react, I grabbed her collar and wrenched her into a brutal headbutt.

Her head snapped back. Blood spattered.

She stumbled but stayed standing. Tough.

She flipped sothing on the gauntlet. The air around it shimred. "Let’s see you dodge this."

She swung. The gauntlet barely missed my face, but the force still burned against my cheek. I twisted with the montum, hooked my leg around hers, and forced her off-balance.

She stumbled, but at the last second, she flicked a switch.

The gauntlet whined.

Fuck.

[CHEAT DEATH TRIGGERED.]

I shifted my weight as the explosion went off. My shoulder took most of it instead of my torso. The blast launched back, pain rattling through my arm.

[PAIN RESISTANCE TRIGGERED.]

[SPITEFUL RESILIENCE STACKING.]

I landed, rolling with the force. My shoulder scread, but I didn’t stop moving.

Chitose exhaled, wiping blood from her mouth. "Still alive?"

"Yeah," I muttered, cracking my neck. "And I am done playing."

Checked my stats.

[SPEED: 366.]

[STRENGTH: 309.]

[STORM FIST MAX CHARGE.]

[SHATTERPOINT LOCKED.]

I rolled my shoulder. "Die motherfucker."

Her gauntlet whined as she steadied herself. "Co on, then."

I moved.

Her landmines detonated in a desperate chain reaction, trying to box in. Too slow. I was already past them.

Chitose barely had ti to react before my fist drove into her gut. The force sent shockwaves rippling through her body, her feet lifting off the ground. Blood splattered from her mouth.

Before she could collapse, I caught her by the collar and wrenched her into a spinning slam. The pavent cracked as her back hit. She choked out a gasp, limbs twitching.

I stepped back. "Get up."

She tried. Failed.

I crouched next to her, gripping her chin, forcing her to look at . "You enjoyed hurting her, didn’t you?" My grip tightened. "I should enjoy hurting you."

She tried to laugh. It ca out broken.

I exhaled through my nose. "You are not worth more ti."

[ULTIMATE TECHNIQUE – RAGNAROK BREAKER.]

My entire body twisted, muscles coiling, every ounce of force condensing into my fist. The air around it warped.

Chitose’s eyes widened.

"Goodnight, bitch."

My fist slamd into her. The impact detonated, sending shockwaves ripping through the battlefield. The force cratered the ground, launching her like a ragdoll. She tore through debris, slamming into a wrecked car.

She didn’t get back up.

I rolled my shoulder. My arm burned, the numbness settling in. Ten minutes of downti. Didn’t matter.

I wiped the blood off my knuckles against my pants, flexing my fingers. My entire body was screaming, but I was still standing.

I stepped over the unconscious bitch, ignoring the way her body was twitching from the aftershock of my punch. If she woke up, she would be lucky if she could still move properly. I collected so of her blood for Toga, then I turned away, breathing through my nose.

My limbs felt heavier, like I was dragging weights with every step. My body had taken more abuse than I realized… All those boosts didn’t co free, and I had been stacking effects like I was trying to set a world record for self-destruction.

But I still had shit to do.

I trudged through the wreckage, kicking aside debris as I made my way back to where I left her. The sll of smoke, blood, and burning trash clung to everything. Explosions were still going off in the distance, but I wasn’t worried about getting caught. The battlefield was too chaotic, too many assholes tearing each other apart to notice one more body slipping through the cracks.

The old house was still standing. Barely. I pushed the door open with my shoulder, stepping inside.

Toga was where I left her, curled up on the stained mattress, her breathing more even now. The potion had worked, but she wasn’t bouncing up anyti soon. I knelt beside her, brushing strands of hair away from her face. Her skin had regained so color, but the dried blood on her lips and the sluggish way she was breathing told she still felt like shit.

I reached into her clothes, feeling for the mask I had given her on our last… eting. My fingers brushed against the fabric, and I pulled it out.

Toga shifted slightly, eyes still closed, and mumbled, "Ryuu… take advantage of ."

I exhaled through my nose. "Even half-dead, you are a nace."

She giggled, voice sleepy. "Mmm, I know."

I pulled the mask over her face, pressing it into place. It shimred, molding into a different appearance. Sa random girl she used before, wouldn't catch attention.

I slipped an arm under her legs, the other supporting her back, and lifted her. She made a soft noise, shifting against .

"You are carrying like a princess," she murmured.

"Because I don’t have a wheelbarrow."

She giggled again, but she was already drifting back under. I adjusted my grip and stepped back outside, scanning the area. The streets were quieter now… most of the fighting had moved further down, away from the smaller side roads. I stuck to the shadows, moving fast but careful. I had to get us out of this shithole before soone realized what I had done.

The edge of the city wasn’t far. Past the burning buildings and the occasional looter, there was a road leading toward the outskirts. I kept moving, keeping my head down, cutting through alleys and side streets to avoid any stragglers.

A car sat abandoned near the old bus station, doors ripped open, keys still in the ignition. Lucky break. Or maybe just convenient timing.

I shifted Toga into the passenger seat, pulling the seatbelt across her before climbing in. The engine sputtered but turned over. I rolled out onto the road, heading toward the rural outskirts.

The city faded behind us, the chaos shrinking in the rearview mirror. The roads stretched long and empty, lined with old farmhouses and scattered trees. It was the kind of place where people kept to themselves, the kind of place where two strangers showing up wouldn’t get a second glance as long as they didn’t cause trouble.

I drove until the lights of Deika were completely gone, replaced by quiet roads and the occasional distant farmhouse. One of them, an old place with peeling paint and an overgrown yard, looked abandoned enough to work.

I pulled up the dirt path, parking under a tree. The house was empty… whoever lived here had been gone a long ti. The front door creaked open when I pushed on it.

Dust covered everything. Furniture sat untouched, a few old dishes left in the sink. No sign of recent life. Good.

I carried Toga inside, kicking the door shut behind . The bedroom had an old mattress, but it was better than nothing. I set her down carefully, pulling the covers over her.

She shifted slightly, her fingers curling into my sleeve. "You are staying, right?"

I sat on the edge of the bed. "For now."

She humd, satisfied, and let go.
