The sun hung low in the sky, casting a golden glow over the tranquil glade where Haelyn and Archer sat. The air was crisp, carrying the faint scent of pine and the distant murmur of a nearby stream. Nestled in Haelyn’s arms, their newborn son cooed softly, his tiny fingers wrapped around one of hers.

Archer watched them with an expression of rare peace. "Have you thought of a na?" he asked, his voice low and warm.

Haelyn traced a gentle finger across her son’s soft cheek. "Sothing powerful," she murmured, eyes shimring with contemplation. "Sothing rare... calm, yet strong."

Archer tilted his head, waiting.

"Ezra," she finally said. "Ezra Rael."

Archer repeated the na under his breath, testing its weight. A slow smile spread across his face as he nodded. "It suits him."

Before the mont could settle, a sudden chill sliced through the air. The peaceful hum of nature stilled. The baby let out a small, uneasy whimper.

Then, as if summoned by the disturbance, a dark energy surged into the glade. Shadows twisted unnaturally, and with a sudden pulse of power, Keres materialized before them, her presence suffocating and cold. But she wasn’t alone.

Arthur and Layla stood at her sides. Or rather, what remained of them.

"They have sothing to say to you," Keres announced, her lips curling in a twisted smirk.

Haelyn’s eyes narrowed. Though Arthur and Layla had made her life hell, sothing in their vacant stares, their stiff movents, made her gut tighten. Their eyes, once filled with malice and life, were now void, blackened pits of nothingness. Their very essence had changed, as though their souls had been twisted into sothing grotesque and unnatural.

Haelyn stiffened, gripping Ezra closer. "What did you do to them?"

Keres chuckled, tilting her head. "Co now, Haelyn. Don’t act like you care."

"I don’t." Her voice was cold, unwavering. "But even they didn’t deserve this."

Layla’s mouth twitched as if struggling to form words, but it was Arthur who spoke first. "We were weak." His voice was hollow, his expression empty. "We serve a greater purpose now."

Haelyn’s hands curled into fists. "That’s not purpose. That’s control."

Keres let out a mock sigh, rolling her eyes. "Semantics." She stepped closer, her gaze gleaming with sothing unreadable. "You should be thanking . I’m taking revenge on your behalf."

"I never asked for revenge."

"No," Keres agreed, her smirk widening. "But you wanted justice. And this..." she gestured to Arthur and Layla, "...this is justice."

Before Haelyn could retort, Archer took a step forward, his voice dangerously calm. "Undo it."

Keres rely laughed. "Oh, Archer. You still think you have a say in anything I do?"

Ezra let out a soft whimper, and the sound made Keres pause. Her gaze flickered to the child, sothing dark and unreadable flashing in her expression. "You should be more concerned about the real threats, not them."

Haelyn tensed. "What do you an?"

Keres’s smile was sharp. "Your enemies are moving, Haelyn. And not just Zareth."

anwhile, deep in the heart of the wolf kingdom, Marius sat in the council chamber, his fingers steepled beneath his chin. The elders around him murmured, their voices heavy with concern. Arthur and Layla had vanished without a trace, and suspicions were growing.

Marius leaned forward, his voice asured and insidious. "The wolf king has failed us."

Elder Vane narrowed his eyes. "Careful with your words, Marius."

"Careful?" Marius echoed with a bitter chuckle. "We have been careful for too long. Where is our great king now? Where was he when Arthur and Layla disappeared? Where was he when Zareth’s forces pushed deeper into our land?"

The murmurs grew louder.

Elder Rowan hesitated. "You would have us question his rule?"

"I would have us prepare for a new one." Marius’s voice was smooth, persuasive. "Our people need a leader who does not hesitate. Soone who does not falter in the face of darkness."

Silence stretched in the room.

Then, a slow, reluctant nod from one of the elders.

And then another.

Marius hid his smirk behind a mask of solemnity.

The pieces were falling into place.

The room was suffocating.

Artemis sat on the edge of his bed, head in his hands, fingers digging into his scalp as if he could claw out the voice echoing in his mind. Nesis’s words slithered through his thoughts like a serpent tightening its coils.

"Bring the child, Artemis, and she will be yours. Haelyn. The way you’ve always wanted her."

His heart pounded against his ribs. His wolf stirred uneasily, pacing within him, snarling at the re suggestion of such treachery.

"This is wrong," his wolf rumbled, the sound deep and guttural, as if it were physically trying to shake the thought from his head. "Betrayal. It is betrayal."

He squeezed his eyes shut, breathing heavily. His body trembled, the conflict tearing him apart. He had always loved Haelyn, always wanted her, but at what cost?

Her son.

An innocent. A child with blood more powerful than any wolf had seen in centuries. The key to ultimate destruction...or salvation.

Artemis gritted his teeth. "She would hate ," he whispered, voice hoarse. "She would never forgive ."

"She will love you," Nesis’s voice purred, seductive, persuasive. "If he is out of the way, she will have no choice but to turn to you."

He bolted upright, his breath ragged. This was madness. He had fought beside Haelyn, bled for her, killed for her. How could he...

A low growl built in his chest, his wolf’s rage rising, clawing at him from the inside. His vision blurred, his skin burned. His fingers curled, nails elongating into claws. His body convulsed, muscles stretching, bones snapping. He fell forward onto his hands, panting heavily as the transformation took hold.

Not the usual shift.

This was different.

Dark. Twisted.

The beast...the sinister ancestry that lurked in his blood...awakened.

His head snapped up, sharp canines bared as a deep, nacing growl rumbled through his throat. His fur was darker than the usual silver of his wolf form, his eyes glowing with sothing feral, sothing ancient.

The walls felt like they were closing in. He had to get out.

With a snarl, he lunged toward the window. The glass shattered as he crashed through, his massive fra twisting in the air before he landed on all fours. Without hesitation, he took off, claws tearing into the earth, his howl splitting through the night like a death on.

Haelyn jerked awake.

Her breath hitched, heart racing. The room was still, moonlight casting soft shadows across the floor. She turned her head, eyes darting to the crib where her son lay, peaceful, untouched by the sudden unease gripping her.

Archer was beside her, his breathing deep and steady, but sothing felt wrong.

Dread pooled in her stomach. It was an instinct, a whisper in her bones, warning her. Sothing is coming.

She pushed back the covers, slipping out of bed as quietly as she could. Padding over to the window, she peered out into the night. The wind howled. Or was that—

Her breath caught. A wolf. No, not just any wolf.

A monstrous, hulking beast tore through the forest, its massive form cutting through the trees like a shadow of death.

She recognized that howl.

"Artemis," she whispered.

The beast let out another anguished cry, the kind that sent chills down the spine.

Her grip tightened on the windowsill. Sothing was very, very wrong.
