Chapter 71: INSEMINATE

AMARIS

What the hell does he mean by that?

"Our problem?" I question, still trying to wiggle my way of this dangerous and compromising position I had been cornered into. "The last time I remember, you were the only problem I had,"

"Haha, fine, your problem." He scoffed, hands still on my wrist and breath hitting my face in a way that was both intoxicating, consuming and all together infuriating because I wanted him closer.

I stared at him. "I never remember telling you I had a problem that needed a solution." I paused, "Can you let me go, I’d rather be kidnapped than be caught here with you."

"Would you listen," he wasn’t asking. It was more like an instruction and all of a sudden I went quiet. I loathe that he had this effect on me because I wanted to scream back at him.

"Do you want to be inseminated by Alpha Corvin?" he challenged me as soon as he noticed I had gone mute.

The question hit like a slap and suddenly last night came flooding back, the memory of him walking out of my bathroom after finding out his revenge was pointless, after realizing using me meant nothing if his father would never know.

"Wow, you are indeed a brute," I shot back. "You walked away because of this and now—"

"We are in a toilet," he interrupted. "I don’t have time for your emotional processing so answer the question. Do you want to be artificially inseminated?"

I looked at him and felt tears prick behind my eyes that I absolutely refused to let fall. "I don’t even know what I want because truly I am not keen on consummating a marriage with someone who has made it very clear how he feels about me."

Something flickered in Ryker’s expression but it was gone before I could name it. "Trust me, being inseminated artificially will reduce you to just an incubator. You don’t want that."

I laughed but there was no humor in it. "How do you know what I want? Or is this about what you want?"

"You have to tell him no," Ryker stated like I had not just spoken.

He is not even acting like I am speaking, I thought with frustration. Just completely ignoring what I say like my words do not matter. Like how I felt about what he did yesterday did not matter.

"Oh I should just say no," I retorted, sarcasm dripping from every word. "Wow, how brilliant. Why haven’t I thought of that?"

"You haven’t thought of it apparently," Ryker countered. "Listen, Alpha Corvin might be a monster or a brute but he is a man of honor. At least he believes he is." His grip on my wrists loosened slightly. "He will not force a woman against her wishes. If you say no, he won’t do it."

I stared at him trying to figure out his angle, trying to understand why he suddenly cared about whether I got artificially inseminated or not. "How brilliant. And then he will just toss me back to the Stormshadow pack like damaged goods."

"Not if you offer an alternative," Ryker pressed.

"Can you let me go before someone walks in here and finds us like this? I am not having this conversation with you," I asked, suddenly very aware of how compromising this position looked.

To my surprise he actually listened, releasing my wrists and stepping back to give me space. I rubbed my wrists where his fingers had been even though he had not actually hurt me, just kept me immobile.

I moved toward the door needing to get out of this bathroom and away from him before I did something stupid like cry or kiss him or ask him why he walked out last night.

I unlocked the door and pulled it open.

Alpha Corvin stood directly in front of me.

I startled so hard I nearly fell backward, my hand flying to my chest where my heart was trying to escape my ribcage. "Alpha Corvin."

He looked at me with those dark unreadable eyes. "I did not mean to scare you. Cole said he saw you entering here."

Oh god.

Ryker was still in the bathroom behind me and if Alpha Corvin walked in or looked past me he would see his son and put together exactly what we were doing alone in a locked bathroom.

I started pulling the door closed behind me, keeping my body in the opening to block his view inside. "Oh. How may I help you?"

"The doctor wants to examine you," Corvin announced, his voice businesslike. "To make sure everything is prepared for the insemination in two days."

Two days.

The timeline hit me like ice water because somehow I had thought I had more time, had thought I could figure this out before it became real.

"Let’s go," Corvin continued, already turning to walk away. "I have many things to take care of today."

I stood frozen in the doorway knowing Ryker was probably pressed against the door, I could smell him, his furry smell was so close, knowing his advice was still ringing in my ears, knowing that if I went with Alpha Corvin right now I would be examined and prepared and treated like livestock being readied for breeding.

"No," I heard myself say.

Corvin stopped walking and turned back to face me slowly. "Excuse me?"

My mouth had gone dry but I forced the words out anyway. "Sorry Alpha Corvin." I took a breath. "I don’t want to be inseminated."

His eyebrows rose slightly and I could see him processing this unexpected defiance, calculating how to respond to someone refusing an order.

I thought about Ryker words and all that he said, about his insistence that Corvin would not force me, about how this was probably the worst decision I could make but also maybe the only one that let me keep some shred of dignity.

"If you want me to bear your heir," I continued, my voice gaining strength, "you have to do it the traditional way."

I paused and knowing Ryker would be listening I added the part that would make this real, that would force Alpha Corvin to actually make a choice instead of treating me like a science experiment.

"You have to inseminate me yourself, through sex."
