This was exactly the Ability I needed to use as a cover to reveal publicly while hiding my real trump cards.
Make no mistake, I had no intention of pretending to be weak. Phantom Step wasn’t so low-key support skill to downplay my presence. On the contrary, it was the kind of ability that would push into the brightest spotlight.
To put things into perspective, very few people in this world were born with innate supernatural powers known as Abilities. These manifested when an individual’s Mana Circuit matured, typically during the first few days of awakening.
However, even among the rare few who awakened an Ability, they were further classified into three distinct types: non-growable abilities, which were the most common and fixed in power and potential; semi-growable abilities, which could evolve but only to a limited extent; and growable abilities, the rarest and most coveted, with an infinite potential for developnt.
One could say that anyone possessing a growable Ability was regarded as a National Treasure.
And since every single Ability provided by the Lustbound Codex was growable with no upper limit, Phantom Step, which didn’t seem overpowered at first glance, was only because it was at its starting point.
Besides, one of its core traits was spatial control, which ant that if I played my cards right, I could even evolve it into a teleportation-type ability later. Pushing it further was space manipulation, and then the Law of Space itself.
But that was a goal for the future.
For now, this was more than enough. I was certain others would notice the potential as well, which made this the perfect ability to showcase publicly. It would elevate my reputation, increase my perceived value, and make access to certain people and resources much easier.
After all, I was the sole heir of the Shimizu family, a once-in-a-century genius. And although I believed in hiding my true strength and keeping my edge concealed, appearing weak was never an option unless absolutely necessary.
Otherwise, people would only look down on . Worse, once I revealed my true strength later, it would only invite suspicion, attention, and unnecessary investigation.
In contrast, showing an appropriate level of strength to avoid being underestimated, and then displaying steady, impressive growth, was the optimal route. Not just for , but even an average person with a working brain would choose the sa path.
