Ethan’s eyes fluttered open, his vision still hazy and unfocused. He could tell there were people around him, but their faces were indistinguishable, lost in the blur that clouded his sight.
Even with the darkness in his vision, the pain in his body was unmistakable. Every muscle ached, but his hands throbbed the most, feeling as if they were on fire.
Oddly, he felt no pain from his stomach, and that struck him as strange, though his mind was too muddled to make sense of it.
"Ethan, can you hear ?" a voice called out.
"Y...Yes," Ethan replied, his voice barely above a whisper, fragile and weak.
"Good," the voice responded with relief. "Do you know where you are?"
Ethan had no idea where he was so he spoke the first thing that ca to mind "No... maybe a hospital," he muttered, the words coming out slowly.
"A hospital? What’s a hospital?" Dora asked, her tone a mixture of confusion and curiosity. She turned to look at the other girls in the room, but they all shrugged, just as perplexed as she was.
"I have sowhere to be," Dora said after a mont, deciding not to dwell on the strange word.
"You all stay here with him. I think it’s going to take so ti for him to fully wake up, and if anything seems wrong, take care of him." She pointed to Martha, who was the only healing among all the girls present there.
"Don’t worry, I’ll do my best," Martha assured her as Dora left the room.
The girls gathered around Ethan’s bed, watching him as he struggled to fully open his eyes. They waited in silence, not wanting to disturb him, until finally, his eyes cleared enough for him to see a face clearly. The first face he saw was Isabella’s.
"Goddess?" Ethan muttered, staring at her in disbelief.
"Is he awake?" Isabella asked, surprised.
"He just called you a goddess; there’s no way he’s fully awake," Martha said, a hint of amusent in her voice.
"You do know I’m a princess, right?" Isabella retorted, raising an eyebrow.
"Yeah, I do, and so?" Martha responded, unimpressed.
"Both of you are disturbing Ethan. Be quiet," Edith interjected, her voice firm. "Ethan, are you awake now?"
Isabella, undeterred by Edith’s scolding, continued, "Hey, I’m Ethan’s number one, just so you know. And I didn’t make that up; he told himself."
At this, all the girls turned to look at Isabella, curious and slightly skeptical.
"Just saying you didn’t make it up makes think you made it up," Freya muttered, her tone teasing.
"Ouch!" Ethan suddenly grunted, attempting to move his arms. The sharp pain that shot through his body made him wince, and the girls instantly turned their attention back to him.
"Don’t try to move them yet," Martha advised gently, stepping closer to him.
"You should rest easy on the bed," Isabella suggested, her voice softening as she looked at him with concern.
Ethan sighed, exasperation creeping into his voice. "How do you expect to rest when you’re all shouting in my ear?"
The girls exchanged guilty looks before Isabella spoke up again. "We’re sorry, Ethan. We didn’t an to disturb you. We’re just so glad you’re feeling better," she said, her voice sincere. A small smile ford on Ethan’s face at her words.
"Do you need anything, food or water or anything at all?" Martha asked as the girls sat down close to the wall of the room.
"No, I’m fine for now" he muttered as he was finally awake.
Ethan took a deep breath staring at the ceiling, now he was starting to recall everything that went wrong, the first part was the mistake of thinking he was strong and special, maybe because he was the only powerful male around and that made him cocky.
He was special for having the system, but that only related to sex-related things and not actually power, the battle with the knight revealed that to him, all he did was dodge till he found a solution that eventually led to him almost dying.
He would have definitely lost his life, he was just lucky.
If it wasn’t for the goddess and the fact that the Dora and the others were there he knew he would have bitten the dust back at the cave.
