Morning bled into gray clouds as Charles walked alone through Arkvale’s uptown district, his thoughts locked behind a cold wall.

The NeuroSync Stabilizer pulsed faintly in his bloodstream. He could feel it working. His mind was sharper. Clearer.

Too clear.

Because the warmth was gone.

He still rembered Olivia’s kisses, Mia’s laugh, the teasing brush of Maya’s hand—but it all felt like watching through glass now. He couldn’t connect the sa way. Couldn’t feel them as deeply as before. The stabilizer was doing its job, but maybe it was costing him more than he realized.

And that scared him more than anything.

> [Emotional Override Blocked: Olivia Sync Level Held – 62%]

[Notice: Mia Carter – Sync Disturbance Detected. Status: Inactive.]

His steps froze.

Inactive?

He opened the system interface again, scrolling to her profile.

Mia Carter – Sync Level 2 – Active Bond... now gray.

No pulse. No progress.

No response.

"System," he muttered, voice low. "Locate Mia Carter."

> [Tracking Error: Subject Location Obstructed by Interference.]

[Trace Block: Lust Sync Variant Signature Detected.]

His heart dropped.

Oga.

Scene: Maya’s Apartnt

Maya slamd the data terminal closed.

"She’s gone dark."

Charles paced, jaw clenched. "She was just at university two days ago. She texted . Said she had classes, then she’d call after."

"She never did," Maya whispered. "And now the system’s blind to her."

He stared at her. "You think the mirror host took her?"

Maya hesitated. Then nodded.

"It fits his profile. She’s vulnerable. Emotionally open. Soft. If he synced with her first—"

Charles’s fist smashed the edge of the counter, cracking it.

"He’s not getting away with this."

> [Rage Surge Detected: Command Word "Break" Now Available.]

[Caution: Using Combat-Level Commands Will Attract System Sentinel Activity.]

Maya reached into a drawer, pulling out an old phone—clunky, pre-smart tech. No Lust Sync access.

"I think I can find her. But we’ll need a backdoor."

Charles raised an eyebrow. "You have one?"

Maya nodded. "Eliza made it. She called it the ’Ghost Signal.’ A ping that can pass through system barriers using analog interference."

He blinked. "I thought Eliza was dead."

"I did too," she whispered.

Then she pressed a few buttons—and a distorted voice crackled through the speaker.

> "Charles. If you’re hearing this... I’m alive. And Mia is with ."

---

Flashback Fragnt: Unknown Location

Mia’s voice echoes, terrified. "Who are you?! You’re not Charles!"

The other Charles—Oga—smiles. "I’m who he’s ant to be."

He reaches out—touches her cheek.

She shudders.

Then—static. Error. Shutdown.

---

Back in the Present: Charles’s Thoughts

His jaw clenched.

He could feel it now—not just the threat of the system or the danger of power—but the cost. The deeper he synced, the more each woman mattered. Not as pawns.

As people.

And now Mia—his shy, sweet second sync—was sowhere out there. Frightened. Maybe worse.

> [New Objective: Recover Mia Carter]

[Location: Unknown. Lead: Eliza Lin Signal Detected in Industrial Sector 4D]

---

That Night: Sector 4D, Arkvale’s Industrial Graveyard

The district was a skeleton of rusted labs and scrapyards. The air slled like burnt circuits. Every shadow whispered.

Charles and Maya moved in silence, scanning for movent.

A sudden ping.

A motion-activated screen flickered on across a rusted fence.

Eliza’s face appeared. Pale. Modified. One eye glowing blue.

> "Charles. You’re here. That ans it’s begun."

"Where’s Mia?" he demanded.

Eliza blinked. "She’s safe. For now. But you’re not ready to fight what’s coming."

Behind her, a figure curled on a cot. Mia. Eyes closed. Unmoving.

---

Inside the Lab: 20 Minutes Later

Eliza opened the door herself. Real. Not a projection.

Her hair was shorter. One arm synthetic—sleek tal and synthflesh.

"You look... different," Charles said.

She nodded. "Death changes people. So does surviving a system trying to delete your soul."

They entered the back room. Mia lay breathing shallowly.

"She’s in a Sync-lock," Eliza said. "Oga forced a Level 3 Bond too early. It fractured her."

Charles knelt beside her, heart breaking. "Can I wake her?"

Eliza shook her head. "Not without risking permanent damage."

> [Sync Alert: Forced Sync Detected – Unstable Emotional Collapse. Threat Level: HIGH.]

Maya crossed her arms. "Why are you helping us, Eliza?"

She stared hard. "Because I built Lust Sync."

Silence.

---

Reveal: Eliza’s Secret

She walked to the main console. "It was a therapy tool. ant to restore emotional balance after trauma. But they twisted it. Turned it into a goddamn weapon."

Her eyes darkened. "When I resisted, they used it on . Wiped my ID. Faked my death."

Charles clenched his fists. "So what now?"

She looked him dead in the eye.

"We kill Oga."

---

Later That Night: Alone With Mia

Charles sat beside her cot. Her fingers twitched slightly.

He brushed her bangs away. Her skin was warm. Peaceful.

He swallowed the guilt crawling up his throat.

"I’m sorry," he whispered. "I let it happen."

> [Trait Acquired: Protective Drive]

[Unlock Bonus Sync Ability: Emotion Shield – Can protect future partners from forced Sync Surges.]

He leaned down and kissed her forehead.

No commands. No seduction.

Just love.

---

As he stood to leave, the system shimred with violet light.

A new voice echoed. Not AURA. Not Eliza.

Deeper. Ancient.

> "Host Detected. Conflict Path Activated."

"Oga is not the true danger."

"You are."

Charles froze.

"What...?"

> "You were never the system’s user. You were always its core."
