I still can’t believe Winter would return to . How did Selene make that happen? I would have known sooner, had I not been such an idiot to Kiara when we first t. She has been here almost a week, and I need to make more of an effort to get to know her properly. I still rember her father’s words.

I swallow. My mate is a fox shifter. I wonder how the pack will react. Well, to be honest, I do not care how they react. Her fox is gorgeous with that reddish gold fur, four swirling tails with silver at the tips, and her eyes. Fuck! Those big caral eyes look back at even in her fox form. I almost fainted when she told her na. I’m taking this as Selene’s way to give a true second chance with Kiara, I just don’t understand why she is a fox shifter instead of a wolf. I had no idea there were other shifters out there.
"And that, m’boy, is exactly why we chose the fox." Selene’s voice interrupts my train of thought. I am still standing in Luna’s office, lost in planning and wondering. She steps out from the bright silver light, but she is not alone. Behind her, a beautiful woman with almond eyes, high cheekbones, and sharp features walks out. "And this is my sister Inari." I bow to the Goddesses.
"It’s a pleasure Mother Inari." She laughs a rich deep laugh.
"Don’t be silly, boy. I am not as vain as my sister. It’s just Inari, and the pleasure is on my side, Alpha Maze. I am very curious about the mate Selene chose for one of my children. We don’t mix often, but she was very adamant that you were deserving of a fox as a mate. I must say you have been disappointed until now." I swallow. Oh no. They have been watching . "You have been doubting , Maze, and I am very sad that has been the case," Selene says quietly. The disappointnt oozes from her, and I feel like crying because I am so angry with myself.
"I chose your mate, and talked my sister into exposing her children, because she is so pure at heart nothing would ever sway her when she loves soone, but you have treated her like a... I want to see you do better. She is not Mira Rose, and she will never be." I narrow my eyes. Where is she going with this?
"Maze, you were spared when Mira temporarily died and severed your bond. I withdrew her wolf before that day, because she was far more gone than I thought. She conspired with demons, and she was going to mislead you. I am sorry, darling, but Kiara is everything Mira never was. And I promise you, I would never have paired the two of you, had I not foreseen your future together first." I hold up my hand.
"Wait! You said temporarily dead. She’s alive?" Selene’s eyes are sad, but Inari’s are sharp when they lock with mine.
"Was that all you heard?" Inari asks, and I shake my head. Of course, it wasn’t, but if Mira is still alive and never ca back to . My heart hurts like soone stabbed it with a thousand knives. She truly didn’t want as her mate. She wanted as a ans. Amber and everyone else were right. She was in that forest to do harm, not coming back to . But why?
"No, Inari. I am sorry. I heard it all, and will be better with my mate, of that you have my word." I put my hand over my heart. "But if she’s alive, why didn’t she co back, Selene? What aren’t you telling ?"
"I am sorry, Maze. I cannot tell you, but I can say this; you will need your bond with Kiara to be strong and soon. You need to accept each other and make a true effort with her. Your path will cross with your ex mate, and you’ll have to stay strong in your belief and your mate bond. Or everything will be lost."
"So I am going to et Mira again? Kiara is my mate, and will never trade her or take soone else. She is mine! And besides. My wolf already accepted her. I have as well. I just need to tell her."
"Do it sooner rather than later, Maze. Everything depends on your mate bond with Kiara and your sister’s mate bond with her dragons. You’ll need all the alliances you can get, and if Kiara becos the Queen, her people, the foxes, may decide to follow her. She is one of them after all."
