Kiara

"So, that didn’t go as I hoped," I say as the Alpha flees the room. He’s my mate and Winter whimpers in my mind. She recognizes him and his wolf - who actually accepted us without his human approval.

"Give 2 minutes, I’ll get him back." Aunt Abby says, but I shake my head. I fold my hands behind my back to hide how much they are shaking.

"It’s really okay, Aunt Abby. It was what to expect. I do not sll or look like the normal wolf shifter, so he probably didn’t see the need to be polite." She rolls her eyes and I resist the urge to giggle. There’s really nothing to laugh about, but her reaction makes my heart flutter. She’s never given a shit about my lack of a wolf spirit and always accepted . Even when I hadn’t even shifted to the fox.

"Are you sure, Kiara? I will drag his ass back to apologize for this rude behavior." I smile. It’s bright and real. Sothing that happens rarely these days.

"I’m sure. I’ll just stay out of his way while I’m here and I am sure everything will be fine. Thank you though." She nods, seemingly accepting my answer.

"Well, if you’re sure. Matt and your father can talk and I’ll show you and Sami your room, darling." She gestures for us to follow her, which we do with my three suitcases. I packed for a lengthy stay, but now I am not so sure how long I should stay? If Maze really is so repulsed by , then I should probably leave imdiately, but sothing inside doesn’t want to go just yet. Maybe it’s a misunderstanding.

’Honey, tell the truth. Is he your mate?’ Mom mind-links . How she knew is everyone’s guess, but she did.

’Not going to ask how you knew. He is my mate, but I’m sure he’ll just reject . He doesn’t seem like he’s over the one who died.’

’KIARA!’ I roll my eyes and shrug my shoulders.

’Sorry mom, but he doesn’t. The way he looked at with those absolutely amazing eyes, drawing and... Goodness. But he fled like I had the plague as soon as I opened my mouth. Before that, he seed like he just wanted to devour with those big muscular arms and.. Oh my!’ Mom giggles at my incoherent thought process. I love her for not judging or comnting on my observations.

’He lost a mate. He felt the bond break, darling. I’m sure he’s still healing from that, but it IS 2 years ago. Almost."

We are present again when we reach the door Abby stops in front.

"This will be you for your stay with us. I do hope it lives up to your expectations." She opens the door, and my mouth falls open. Like our pack house is not small by no ans, but this room could fit the Alpha suite and two normal bedrooms. I have not lived in the packhouse for 2 years, though, but it could also fit in my apartnt easily. I walk in, looking like a tourist coming to the big town for the first ti.

"This is amazing, Aunt Abby! But a regular bedroom would have been fine as well." I say over my shoulder. I turn my head when soone snorts behind , and I giggle at the expression in her eyes. She raises an eyebrow.

"You are mated to my son, yes or no?!" She asks, I gape at her. Damn, does everyone in that room know?! "No, the guys have no clue or they would have both killed Maze on the spot when he was leaving the room. I know because of my abilities, and your mom knows because, well, she is your mom, dear." I nod.

"Uhm, well. You already know the answer to that question then." I answer, sitting down on the giant bed.

"I’ll take that as a yes. I’ll kill him myself." I shake my head at her statent.

"Please don’t do that, aunt. I do not want any drama. He’ll just reject , and we can all move on. I ca here to avoid drama and attention to myself. I just want to do my studies and draw and such. I’ll keep to myself as I had planned all along and everything will solve itself." Mom gives a sad look.

"If you want to co ho.."

"I know Mom, but the pack does not want . They have made that abundantly clear. And I will not force myself on them when they hate so much. Just make sure Benedict is treated with respect. He should have to bear the brunt of their hatred towards ." Abby looks between us, and Mom blushes. Oh no. I said too much. I feel the need to facepalm myself.

"Benedict?" She asks, staring at my mom, who in turn gives a distinct look.

"Well, we adopted a son. He’s not ho yet, and we wanted to wait to tell you until he was with us. He was orphaned at another pack, and we fell in love when we were there on official Alpha business. He’ll be our heir, as Kiara actually renounced her claim before we ca here." It’s my turn to blush.

"I was hoping I could beco a mber of this pack, but with the Alpha’s reaction to ... I think maybe that’s going to be problematic." Abby’s eyes grow dark at the ntion of her son and his rudeness, but then she smiles.

"First of all... CONGRATULATIONS! I am going to smack you later for not telling I’ll be an aunt again. And secondly." She walks to the bed and actually smacks on the backside of my head.

"OUCH!"

"That’s for being ridiculous! We would be honored to have you as a mber. I’m still capable of so things, and one of them is to accept new mbers into the pack. Luckily that is not completely up to that moron of a son of mine." I stare at her, my head spinning.

"But wouldn’t he need to approve of ?"

"Well, no. He can still banish you. But you are his mate."

Everything feels so surreal. Back at my childhood pack, everyone was so excited when I was born. They didn’t mind that I was a girl, as long as I was strong and intelligent. Well, they got both things, but when I didn’t shift on my 18th birthday, people started resenting . And then when I got my fox. People beca directly hateful and an to . They would bully at school, follow wherever I went, and beat whenever they had the chance. I’m strong, but when it’s five against one. I am not that strong. It beca so bad that I changed schools and started at a human one, where people didn’t mind . I was a strange and quiet girl. They left alone. That is until so of the bullies actually followed to the new school.

This ti mom and dad sent to a private college, as I had grown and was over 18. I moved into an apartnt in a private area with guards and security. No one could co in unless I approved them, and they got pictures of the worst of my torntors. They finally left alone. The problem now was the complaints of pack mbers. Dad suggested banishing them all, but Mom pointed out they would not have a pack left if he did that.

I suggested going to Aunt Abby’s pack, knowing if she accepted , everyone else would leave alone. I would not be much out in public, as I hate people. They are stupid. And besides - my studies take most of my ti. Doing them remotely is a work in itself.

"Kiara?" I snap back to the room.

"Huh?"

"Do you want to change packs?" I look at mom, who, despite her sad eyes, nod. I take a deep breath and nod as well.

"Well then. I Abigail, reigning Luna of the Silver Moon pack, invite you, Kiara, daughter of Alpha Benjamin and Luna Sami, to join our pack."

"I accept your invitation and promise to protect my pack at all costs." The power shifts and Abby smiles. Sowhere in the packhouse, a howl rips through the air. I do not need to see who it is to know. Maze.
