Chapter 1176: Chapter 1: We Are Your Big Brothers

In the sumr of the third year of the Ming Country, Tiann City experienced exceptionally abundant rainfall.

As expected, the Nantong District once again experienced internal flooding, and the old acquaintance, cholera, arrived on schedule.

However, compared to last year, this year’s city preparations were quite thorough, with abundant dical resources and relief supplies.

But such peace was only limited to Tiann; the dostic situation remained severe and complex.

The Yellow River breached its banks, displacing millions of refugees in the four provinces of Jin, Ji, Lu, and Yu. The most direct manifestation was the influx of a large number of refugees from Jizhou into Tiann, quickly filling up the labor market that had dried up due to rapid developnt, and still being unable to fully digest them.

There were also predatory newcors from various regions, coming with the mindset of seizing opportunities at all costs, engaging in theft, kidnapping, and arson, thus causing an extrely adverse impact on the social order of Tiann City.

At the beginning of August, ard rebellions erupted in the Min and Yue regions. Yang Xingzhou supported the heir of the Forr Dynasty’s imperial family, Xia Degong, as emperor and declared restoration.

At the Huning Port, there were reports of demons causing disturbances, resulting in heavy casualties at the local Special Service Bureau. Liu Zhihan, head of the Intelligence Departnt of the Tiann City Spy Bureau, was promoted to Special Inspector, leading an elite team southward.

In the Shu Region, a farr nad Wang Erxi established a regi, proclaid himself the Divine Martial Emperor, appointed concubines and civil and military officials, personally led troops to attack county towns, and was annihilated by the local police, who seized contraband weapons, including twenty homade rifles, two cannons, thirteen sets of armor, and a hundred and sixty pounds of opium.

On August 15, the Naval Academy officially comnced classes.

The Naval Academy is a shorthand na, forrly called the Mariti Hall or the Naval Military Academy.

Initially, it was of a relatively small scale, lacking educational resources and faculty.

Today, the Naval Academy, after decades of developnt, stands in no way inferior to the United Kingdom’s Royal Naval College in terms of scale, even employing many senior officers from the Royal Navy as instructors.

The academy is divided into four departnts: Command, Naval Vessels, Engineering, and Logistics.

Generally, one must have at least graduated from high school with excellent grades to study and advance there. Otherwise, your level of knowledge might be insufficient; you wouldn’t even understand English lectures given by the instructors.

But for reasons known to all, there weren’t that many excellent high school graduates available for training before, nor will there be in the future.

Therefore, the majority of the Naval Academy students were selected internally from the Navy, with a very small proportion of external applicants, most of whom were from wealthy families or had connections.

The common folk wouldn’t even know which way the main gate of the Naval Academy faces.

All new students must undergo a uniform six-week basic cultural training after enrollnt.

“There aren’t any girls, are there…”

“What are you thinking, how could there be girls in the Naval Academy?”

“Female military doctors, maybe.”

The classroom was filled with spirited short-haired young n. The male testosterone exploded in the room, and people gathered from all over, with won’s topics being the only one to persist and resonate with everyone.

“I advise you not to harbor any fantasies about female military doctors; those won’s skills in saving lives are no different from slaughtering pigs.”

Among the students, the cultural level varied, with so being true high school graduates or directly selected from the military for advanced study, while others could rely read and couldn’t even handle three-digit addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

So naturally, in the cultural courses at the start, so people were hardworking while others were leisurely.

“Hey, did you hear? After the cultural classes, there will be intensive training.”

“Training, indeed. In my opinion, they should start with intensive training and then go to class. A group of kids giggling all day, really treating this like an ordinary school.”

Song Anming looked disdainfully at the “good students” diligently studying at the front of the classroom.

At the start of the school term, different factions naturally ford within the class.

On one side were seasoned veterans who had been through the military grind, at least starting as sergeants.

The other side were the new recruits who hadn’t even touched a gun before, seen as young, fluffy chicks by the veterans.

Can this kind of thing work without training? Who knows what the school is thinking.

Of course, even if there is training, it’s ant for these rookies; they, the veterans, don’t plan to participate in any intensive training. This isn’t like when they first enlisted, having already tasted enough of those tricks used to fool the rookies.

If training’s really necessary, even the new instructors might not have richer experience than them.

“I heard you can apply to go straight to classes, without participating in intensive training.”

Qin Zhigang poked the student in front of him with his finger and asked: “Squad leader, is there such a saying?”

“There is.”

Wang Yunxiao put down the book in his hand and nodded: “If you excel in both the written and physical exams, you don’t have to join the intensive training, you can directly report to your departnt.”

“Holy crap, both written and physical exams? That’s exaggerating!”

Qin Zhigang couldn’t help but widen his eyes: “I know about the written exam, the assessnt after six weeks, but what’s the physical exam about? Could it be a martial arts competition?”

“No, I heard it’s a military skills competition, involving triathlons, decathlons, weight-bearing, and shooting events.”

“Oh, that’s fine then.”

Upon hearing it was just those, Qin Zhigang imdiately breathed a sigh of relief. But his eyes shifted as he asked quietly: “Big brother Wang, your studies are so good, you should pass the written exam, right?”

Wang Yunxiao shook his head and said: “I don’t need to take it, I’m going straight to class.”

Damn these people with connections!

Qin Zhigang quietly cursed in his heart.

Among the freshn this year, Wang Yunxiao was considered on the younger side, but his tall stature made it less obvious.

He claid to have a military background, but couldn’t even report his unit number credibly, talking about so Equipnt Departnt which no one believed.
