Miles Harrison wasn’t intimidated by Sean Harrison in the slightest. He stated plainly, "Uncle, the only person who gets to be my ’aunt’ is the one you marry."

He glanced at Rory Linden. "When Rory was my girlfriend, I don’t recall you ever calling her your niece-in-law, did you?"

"I never had the chance. By the ti we t, my niece-in-law was already Lucy Shaw."

Sean Harrison took a step forward, positioning himself right beside Rory Linden.

He didn’t make any overtly intimate gestures in public.

The two n’s tones held little emotion as they spoke, yet a distinct undercurrent of tension flowed between them.

Miles Harrison looked directly at Rory Linden. "Rory, take your ti and think it over. We can discuss the terms further, but only after you add back on WeChat and promise not to block again."

Rory Linden...

Nadia Willow, who had been silent until now, spoke up. "What’s to stop Miss Linden from getting the contact information and then blocking you again? You’d still be out of options."

"She wouldn’t. She’s not like that."

Miles Harrison looked at Rory Linden, his tone firm and his eyes free of any doubt.

’They had known each other for twenty years.’

’He might not have understood her completely,’

’But he was absolutely certain about this one thing.’

Rory felt a surge of complicated emotions.

’The past twenty years had been exhausting, and she wanted nothing more to do with Miles Harrison.’

’But Ivan Lowell had refused to help her.’

’Now, a new glimr of hope had appeared.’

Auntie Vincent had been the main nanny who looked after Miles Harrison, responsible for all his daily needs.

While other nannies at the Harrington estate were replaced over the years, Auntie Vincent had always remained to care for Miles.

She only left after Miles graduated from elentary school and began boarding for junior high.

Auntie Vincent had also been on very good terms with her mother.

’Maybe she really does know sothing.’

Worried that Miles Harrison would demand too much, Rory Linden spoke first. "Young Master Harrison, if your terms are excessive or unrealistic, then this conversation is over."

"Don’t worry," he said. "I won’t ask for sothing like you marrying on the spot."

Miles Harrison naturally knew what Rory was worried about.

’Even he, naive as he could be, knew a phone number wasn’t worth that much.’

Finally, Sean Harrison couldn’t take it anymore.

He took Rory Linden’s hand. "Let’s go. We’re leaving."

Once they were in the car, before the engine even started, Rory Linden had already pulled out her phone.

Before she could even unlock the screen, the man in the driver’s seat asked, "Are you going to add him back?"

"Yes," Rory Linden quickly explained. "I really need Auntie Vincent’s contact information. It’s very important to ."

"Do you know her full na? I’ll find her for you. Celestria isn’t that big. I can definitely find one person’s contact information."

Sean Harrison rested one hand on the steering wheel, his dark eyes fixed on the road ahead. His tone, however, was laced with an undeniable irritation.

"I don’t know Auntie Vincent’s full na."

"Her age?"

"I don’t know..."

"It’s fine. Her surna is Vincent, right? I’ll ask the household staff if anyone knows her first na, and then I’ll run a check."

Rory Linden leaned closer to him and took his hand, asking with genuine earnestness, "Sean, you really... don’t trust ?"

Sean Harrison fell silent.

"Even if you don’t trust , don’t you trust yourself?" Rory, certain he was jealous, continued, "How can Miles Harrison possibly compare to you? He’s not as handso, not as capable, and not as rich. He’s also a womanizer and an idiot... his flaws are endless."

"..."

"But you’re different. I can’t find a single flaw in you."

Rory’s tone was partly to placate him, but she was also speaking the truth.

Sean Harrison was perfection personified...

She had never considered herself a lucky person.

The kinder Sean Harrison was to her, the more insecure she felt.

Still, it turned out her tactic was highly effective on Sean Harrison.

The man sighed, his voice laced with resignation. "Go ahead. Add him."

When Rory Linden opened WeChat, she saw she already had a friend request from Miles Harrison.

She accepted.

The car started to move.

After a mont’s thought, Rory asked Sean, "So... why was Young Master Harrison having dinner with Miss Willow?"

"I don’t care," Sean Harrison answered curtly. "I only care what conditions Miles will set for you."

PING.

Before Rory could reply, her phone chid with a WeChat notification.

Miles Harrison: "My condition is that you have dinner with on Saturday."

Rory showed him the ssage.

A long silence filled the car.

’Rory knew Sean must be angry.’

’He had every right to be.’

’After all, they were a couple now.’

’And Miles Harrison...’

’...was her ex-boyfriend.’

A red light stopped the car at an intersection.

Sean Harrison, however, seed to have no intention of waiting. He flipped on the right turn signal and swung the car onto another road.

There wasn’t much traffic in Veridia at night, and so of the traffic lights had already switched to flashing yellow.

Sean Harrison drove aimlessly for over ten minutes.

He finally pulled over to the side of a quiet street.

The streetlights cast a dim glow.

There wasn’t a single pedestrian in sight.

Once the car was parked, Sean spoke. "What are you investigating? Tell . I’ll look into it for you and give you the results when I have them."

"I can’t," Rory said, shaking her head. "Sean, no matter what your investigation turns up, I don’t think I could believe it."

The only result Rory would accept was one where her mother had been wronged.

There were so many possibilities.

But regardless of what Sean’s investigation might uncover, she would have her doubts.

If he found her mother to be at fault, she would think he was lying to protect his own father.

If he found his father to be at fault, she would suspect he was lying to preserve their relationship.

"Did soone accuse your mother of stealing sothing?"

Sean Harrison wasn’t one to make baseless guesses.

But he truly couldn’t fathom what she could possibly be looking into that he wasn’t allowed to handle.

"No."

Rory shook her head.

"My mother knows about this, doesn’t she? Or was she the one who told you?" Sean Harrison pulled out his phone. "I’ll ask her."

"Don’t ask her!"

Rory quickly pressed her hand over his phone screen.

Sean Harrison turned his head, his gaze landing on her.

The car’s interior light was off.

Moonlight filtered in through the front windshield.

His dark eyes were tinged with an unreadable emotion.

"Rory, what exactly..." Sean started, then stopped himself. "Never mind."

Even though he hadn’t finished his sentence, Rory could guess what he’d been about to say.

’He was probably going to ask her if there was really sothing she couldn’t tell him, or if this was all just sothing she had fabricated.’

Seeing him lean back against the driver’s seat, a look of weary defeat on his face, Rory finally spoke. "Sean... your mother said that my mother, before she died, had an affair with your father."

She uttered each word with the utmost difficulty.
