Ye Jin lingered in the study for over twenty minutes, during which she showered many flattering remarks, but the old man remained indifferent and eventually dismissed her with a curt "That’s enough, you may leave."
After presenting a gift worth four hundred thousand, she received not so much as a glance in return, and Ye Jin left with resentnt in her heart. As she opened the door of the study to leave, she cursed under her breath, "Old coot!"
She was too caught up in her anger to notice two figures hiding around the corner, and it wasn’t until she had descended the stairs that Shen Cheng erged from their hiding spot.
"Brother, did you hear what she just said?"
Shi Keke stood with one arm crossed over her chest and one hand propping up her chin, as though pondering sothing.
"So things are better pretended not heard."
Shi i rely glanced at her indifferently before striding past her. He walked with a hand casually tucked in his trouser pocket, oozing confidence and charm.
Shi Keke found him sowhat dull and decided not to engage in further conversation, simply following his footsteps into the study.
When they entered the study, the old man was standing by the window. With his hands behind his back and his body worn by the years, he still stood tall.
"Old man..."
Shi Keke walked up to him and affectionately took his arm, smiling, "Congratulations on being another year older."
As if accustod to Shi Keke’s warmth, the old man tapped her forehead and said, "You little imp, you’ve been back in Du City for so long and didn’t think to visit ."
"Who says I didn’t visit? I was here just a few days ago, but you were napping, so I didn’t want to disturb you."
"Is that so?" the old man laughed.
"Do I look like I’m lying?"
"You do."
"What kind of grandfather are you?"
Still smiling, the old man replied, "What’s wrong with being a grandfather like ?"
Shi Keke retorted, "A grandfather like you is too much of a trap for your granddaughter."
The old man let out a hearty laugh.
Seeing him laughing so joyously, Shi Keke beca a bit worried and furrowed her brow, "Don’t laugh so loudly, you have high blood pressure. The doctor said you need to stay calm, no extre emotions, rember?"
The old man patted her hand, "Don’t worry, I’m fine."
Shi Keke humd in acknowledgnt, then rembered sothing and asked, "I brought you so soup dumplings a few days ago when I visited. Don’t tell you didn’t get to eat any of those dumplings?"
"Did that happen?" The old man furrowed his sowhat graying eyebrows, clearly unaware of the situation.
Seeing his reaction, Shi Keke could guess that he had no idea about the dumplings, let alone having eaten them.
Shi Keke recalled handing over the dumplings to the butler and seeing a look of disdain on his face, although it wasn’t very obvious, her keen observation skills didn’t miss it...
"I get it," Shi Keke concluded. "Those dumplings must have been fed to the Tibetan Mastiff by the butler."
Uncle Zhang, the butler, has been serving the Shi Family since his youth, attending to the old man’s needs and sorting out various tedious matters. He is now in his sixties.
He was always ticulous, and anything ant for the old man’s consumption had to pass his inspection. Considering the old man’s health, it is likely the butler wouldn’t allow him to eat sothing as rich and oily as soup dumplings.
The old man laughed again, "That’s the way Uncle Zhang is, too autocratic. But he ans well for my health. No worries, next ti you bring dumplings for grandpa, I’ll sneakily eat them."
