Shi Aoju indeed got injured. Although he managed to dodge when Xiao Chen’s car ca crashing towards him, his arm was still grazed by the van’s rear-view mirror. The car was moving fast, and although it didn’t cause severe injury, his arm was bruised extensively.
Su Jiuyi hadn’t noticed at first. It wasn’t until dinner, when Shi Aoju was personally feeding her porridge, that she detected the injury on his hand. His expression was no different from usual while feeding her; only when his hand was raised too high did he frown.
Su Jiuyi was a keen observer and attentive, so when Shi Aoju frowned, she roughly guessed that he was uncomfortable sowhere.
She knew well Shi Aoju’s personality; he was quite masculine, always the one caring for others, comforting them, and providing them a sense of security, rather than being cared for by soone else.
Su Jiuyi still rembered the scars on his body - knife wounds, gun wounds, new and old injuries. Just from those scars, one could see his life must have been lived on the edge, possibly even facing death ant little to him.
"Let do it myself." Su Jiuyi kept observing Shi Aoju’s expression, and when seeing his brows furrowing again, she tentatively spoke.
At the sa ti, she pondered what was bothering him, whether he had gotten injured saving her today or for so other reason.
Shi Aoju scooped a spoonful of porridge and held it to her lips, saying plainly, "Feeding the wounded is proper, besides, you are my woman and have the privilege to enjoy such treatnt."
"And I think it’s deserved too..." Su Jiuyi didn’t know where her confidence ca from to say such a thing; after speaking, she hesitated, pressing her lips together, "It’s just that I think you seem to be a bit uncomfortable, always frowning."
"No." Shi Aoju replied succinctly, smoothing his brows silently to prevent Su Jiuyi from noticing anything, enduring the recurring severe pain in his arm while continuing to feed her porridge.
"Today, when Xiao Chen drove into you, it seed his vehicle grazed you." Su Jiuyi recalled the scene from the day, then said, "At that mont, you used your hand to pull away, and after pulling aside you switched positions, with your left hand facing Xiao Chen’s car."
"No." Shi Aoju was as reticent as ever, using simple words to deny Su Jiuyi’s statent.
Yet Su Jiuyi did not believe his words. She took the bowl and spoon from his hand and placed them on the nearby table, then looked at Shi Aoju, "Then show ." She was referring to his left hand.
"What’s there to see?" Shi Aoju stood up and walked to the window, lighting a cigarette, taking a deep puff, and glanced at the table next to Su Jiuyi, gesturing to her: "Finish the porridge completely. If you don’t, I’ll dock your pay."
Hearing his words, Su Jiuyi’s eyes lit up instantly, "Do you an I get paid for the ti I’ve not been working?"
Shi Aoju’s expression darkened upon hearing this; this woman was a little money-grubber.
"No," he answered.
"Then why ntion docking pay?"
"Did you get paid for last month?" Shi Aoju raised his eyebrows, "If not, I’ll deduct it from last month’s pay."
"..." Su Jiuyi instantly felt unloved; those wealthy people didn’t understand the pain of ordinary folks like them.
