Su Jiuyi’s vision gradually beca clear, and she saw the man in front of her clearly—his facial contours, his nose, his lips, and those deep, unfathomable eyes. In that instant, they were deeply imprinted on her heart.

"Shi... Ao Jue..."

For the first ti, she called his na with both first and last, but her voice was still weak, much like her current state, making it seem as if her presence could barely be felt.

"I’m here." Shi Aoju’s voice was deep. Looking at her face, so pale it had no trace of blood, his eyes were filled with tenderness. He freed a hand to caress her face with utmost affection.

"Are you hurt?"

Suddenly, she pulled her hand away from his grasp, not knowing where she found the strength. Her hand slid down his face, along his neck, past his clavicle, and to his chest, inch by inch, worried he might have been shot after she lost consciousness.

Shi Aoju gently held her wrist, preventing her from moving. He lowered his voice and said, "I’m not hurt, don’t worry."

In truth, ever since the incident happened, that mont kept replaying in his mind. He still couldn’t understand her motivations; without a second thought, she had thrown herself onto him, disregarding life and death, blocking that bullet for him.

"It’s good that you’re not hurt, it’s good." Su Jiuyi said this, but suddenly felt a sharp pain in her chest, as if it were being sliced open by a knife, causing her to gasp for air.

She bit her lip hard, refusing to make a sound. She didn’t want the man in front of her to worry, nor did she want him to feel guilty about this. She had willingly taken the bullet for him, and she didn’t want him to feel indebted to her.

Shi Aoju, usually highly perceptive, noticed imdiately that sothing was wrong with Su Jiuyi. Seeing the beads of sweat forming densely on her forehead, his brows furrowed.

"Does it hurt a lot?"

He carefully placed her hand back where it was, moving closer to her. He intended to unbutton her clothes to check her wound, but Su Jiuyi stopped him.

Her movents were light, owing to her weak state, but the mont she grabbed Shi Aoju’s hand, he halted his actions.

He looked at Su Jiuyi, saw her shake her head, and she said, "It doesn’t hurt."

Shi Aoju knew she was lying, but he still wanted to believe her. He held Su Jiuyi’s hand, t her gaze, and asked word by word, "Su Jiuyi, will you marry ?"

When Su Jiuyi heard this, her body stiffened. For a mont, she seed to forget the pain of her wound. Seeing his serious expression, she fell into silence.

She rembered when she was young, kids her age often teased her, saying that a child without a mother was a wild child, and wild children were neither liked by boys nor anyone brave enough to marry them.

Back then, she thought maybe they were right, that a rebellious girl like her might never find a suitable partner or beco a bride.

Who would have thought...

Su Jiuyi felt her nose tingle, but she held back from crying. She just stared at Shi Aoju, her eyes sowhat hollow, looking at him for a very long ti before she slowly spoke: "Can I?"

Shi Aoju smiled faintly, reached out to rub her head, and said, "As long as you want to, you can."
