Chapter 543: Chapter 291 Pei: Fo…four million? No? Ah, fo…thousand

The next day, Jiang Fangmao sat in his office with cold sweat dripping down his face, unable to believe what he had done the day before.

Clenching his teeth, he had purchased the online rights for “The Legend of Martial Arts” at the high price of one million per episode. If word got out, his career would probably be over.

A hero last night, today’s Jerry.

If he could, he would love to travel back to yesterday. Before signing that foolish contract, he should have given himself a hard slap and bargained the price down.

But he didn’t regret buying “The Legend of Martial Arts”, he just felt he had paid too much.

One thing was certain, Jiang Fangmao was convinced that this series would generate huge profits for the group. This was a visibly high-quality drama. Otherwise, there wouldn’t have been such a fierce competition for it.

...

Sitcoms, ah, nowadays high-quality sitcoms are almost like treasures. Due to the situation where bad screenwriters drive out the good ones, these days a gem is rare whenever one is released.

A good sitcom can hardly beco outdated. “Family in Hutong,” which was fild twenty years ago, is still being rewatched by young people when they have nothing better to watch.

Spending twenty million on a drama was a gamble that could determine Jiang Fangmao’s professional destiny. For Penguin Video internally, it was also considered a dium-sized project.

A few days later, the contract was officially signed.

Xu Qingyan had no idea how Jiang Fangmao had convinced his superiors, but the mont the contract was finalized, his heart settled, and both rights were finally sold.

As for whether he could sell the comic rights, animation rights, or ga rights in the future, that would depend on the market’s reception. If it beca a massive hit, he could make a fortune off the rchandise as well.

This was also the reason why Xu Qingyan condensed “The Legend of Martial Arts” into twenty-two episodes. He had done everything he could, and now the rest was up to fate.

Zhou Mian formally joined Sky Light Film and Television and went from freelancing to becoming the company’s second official employee.

These past few days, including recruiting, all the company’s operational affairs were handled by Zhou Mian. After all, they had been through thick and thin together, and the company wouldn’t leave him behind as it grew.

As they say, just as soldiers and water have no constant shape, other companies usually hire first and then work. But Xu Qingyan finished the work first before starting to recruit.

It sounds ridiculous, yet it also makes sense.

Even though “The Legend of Martial Arts” had a complicated birth, the company had just been established, the budget was scraped together, and the team and even the director were hired on the spot, as long as the result is good, it’s the right decision.

In the leisurely afternoon of mid-April, Xu Qingyan and Wei Wufeng sat in a renovated café enjoying a pleasant chat, mainly because Wei Wufeng, the pretentious youth, liked this ambiance.

“When will the broadcast date be set?”

“It’s already set; the TV station has scheduled it for the day after tomorrow,” Wei Wufeng put down his coffee and glanced at Xu Qingyan opposite him, “I ntioned it a couple of days ago….”

“That soon?”

“Just so happens that another show ran into trouble; it was originally their ti slot,” Wei Wufeng explained, “Sothing happened, and most likely they will have to edit and re-evaluate for approval.”

“…Why?”

“Guidance issues for minors, I suppose, the standards are stricter these days,” Wei Wufeng casually said, “I should be heading back to Capital City now, my flight is today.”

Upon hearing this, Xu Qingyan felt sowhat awkward.

He had turned a fine traditional Roman noble from Old Capital City into a laboring mule, not for money but for the fa.

“You’ve worked hard, Young Master Wei.”

“No need for that, you know ,” Wei Wufeng waved his hand and leaned back in his chair, “If I were doing this for money, I wouldn’t have taken this project in the first place.”

Xu Qingyan nodded, but thought to himself that Wei was just repaying a favor to his sister. Although, there was no need to say this; Wei Wufeng indeed helped him a lot.

“Pleasant cooperation, and I hope we can continue to work together on our next movie.”

“Not a problem, as long as the script is good,” Wei Wufeng didn’t beat around the bush and agreed outright. Of course, he didn’t believe that Xu Qingyan could create any more good scripts.

Writing scripts is like opening a treasure chest; don’t have high expectations.

After a pause, Wei Wufeng seed to rember sothing and casually asked.

“Speaking of which, what happened to that script you went to Capital City for? I didn’t ask in detail before because the crew was busy with shooting. Have you started filming it yet?”

“It’s currently filming; might take a long while,” Xu Qingyan said.

“Then why the delay? Didn’t you say you would make a round trip in a week?” Wei Wufeng asked nonchalantly, treating it as small talk, “Why did you end up going for half a month?”

“Oh, that. I forgot to tell you guys,” Xu Qingyan also appeared very nonchalant, “Originally, it was just writing the script, then I ran into a leader from Renyi, he liked the script.”

“To vie for so help with resources, I spent an extra week with a group of people doing a polish to et the publishing requirents.”

“What?” Wei Wufeng sat up straight; the information Xu Qingyan was sharing was massive, “What Renyi leader, no, mate, how could you…”

“What kind of script did you write? Why didn’t you say… why didn’t you let have a look?”

“Ah? Didn’t you know?” He spread his hands, “Besides, you couldn’t film a red-the project anyway. There’s nothing much to it, I just took part in the scriptwriting.”

Wei Wufeng lowered his head, pondering the weight of the words ‘Renyi’, thinking this guy was really tight-lipped. If it were him, he would have been shouting from the rooftops.

After a silence, he still couldn’t help asking.

“That leader from Renyi, who is it?”

Xu Qingyan shook his head, “I don’t know, everyone calls him Old Zheng.”

“Holy shit? For real?” Wei Wufeng had rely planned to give Xu Qingyan a calm heads-up before returning to Capital City, but he couldn’t keep his composure anymore.
