Chapter 30: Chapter 30: I Reflect on Myself Thrice Daily

As much as he found him annoying, Su Huai didn’t directly respond to Chu Changkuo’s subtle provocation.

As a dignified reborn individual, Su Huai didn’t need to be magnanimous, but he certainly had to have presence.

In such a situation, presence translated to—let whoever wants to jump, jump. See how high they can get and when it’s no longer entertaining, slap them against the wall.

If they only manage to jump a few centiters with all their might, then they’re not even worth the bother.

Your brother Huai never beats the old, weak, sick, or disabled.

Hence, Su Huai pretended he didn’t see Chu Changkuo’s defiant little glance and quietly adjusted his military training uniform.

...

As expected, Chu Changkuo couldn’t hold back and took the initiative to leap out.

He first took out two sticks of ’95 from a plastic bag and, after opening them, distributed two packs to everyone.

“Co on, guys, I forgot to buy them in the afternoon. Let make it up to everyone!”

Sao Ji and Xia Yu weren’t petty, and seeing Chu Changkuo’s good attitude, the friction from the afternoon was forgotten.

However, Sao Ji grabbed them right away, laughing heartily, “Thanks for the care, Mr. Chu! Ha, isn’t this that dead expensive Internet-famous cigarette?”

Xia Yu, on the other hand, unconsciously glanced at Su Huai before taking the cigarettes.

It wasn’t about who he was siding with but rather a reflection of their different personalities.

Su Huai also accepted the cigarettes and thanked him openly, “Much appreciated, Mr. Chu, I’ve never tried these before, thank you.”

His attitude was so grand, it put Xia Yu and Sao Ji at ease.

Half in dissatisfaction and half jokingly, Chu Changkuo complained, “Old Su, what kind of example are you setting? Call Chief Chu, Mr. Chu, or even Old Chu. You could even call Little Brother Chu. Why call Mr. Chu in such an ugly manner?”

“Fine,” Su Huai answered with a aningful smile, “Then under normal circumstances, I’ll call you Chief Chu, you can’t lose your style.”

But under abnormal circumstances, that might not be the case…

Chu Changkuo, seemingly oblivious, reached into the bag again and took out a lot of vacuum-packed food and canned beer.

He distributed two bags of food to each person and tossed the rest under the desk into the shoe shelf, boasting, “Guys, whenever you’re hungry, just co and grab so. I’ll replenish it when it’s gone. Co on, let’s have a drink to our destined companionship?”

Everyone received a can of beer, and Chu Changkuo imdiately opened his own.

Xia Yu wanted to stop him but was too late, and he urgently reminded, “The school might conduct an inspection soon…”

“No worries!”

Chu Changkuo casually waved his hand, “My family has lived in West City for many years. I won’t say we have great influence, but we’re well-known here.

The head of admissions is my mom’s junior high classmate, and the deputy head of my departnt is an old neighbor of our family. How else could I be here?

The school hasn’t banned drinking, is a small sip even an issue?”

“It is.”

Chu Changkuo was spreading his joy, but Su Huai deflated his enthusiasm with a single, airy word.

Mr. Chu turned around in surprise; Su Huai advised leisurely, “Chief Chu, don’t bla for not warning you, the school rules indeed don’t forbid drinking, but today is different, you’d better take it easy…”

I take it easy my ass!

Chu Changkuo impatiently curled his lip, “Look at your nerve! If anything happens, I’ll take the fall, okay?!”

Having said that, he raised his can high.

“Co on, I’m feeling happy today. If you’re my brothers, join for a drink!”

Upon hearing this, Xia Yu and Sao Ji hesitated.

Xia Yu deliberately looked back at Su Huai, who shook his head slightly.

But Sao Ji didn’t take it seriously, thinking not to kill the buzz, and thus pulled the tab and took a big gulp.

Consequently, Xia Yu, not wanting to lose face, frowned and carefully took a sip.

Su Huai, on the other hand, did not engage.

Not only did he not drink, but he also pushed the beer to one side, making it clear he had no intention of touching it.

Chu Changkuo could no longer contain himself and asked sternly, “Old Su, can’t you get over what happened this afternoon? Not even giving the face to take a drink? You look down on ?!”

That dissatisfaction was even more intense than when he had earlier disparaged him.

Su Huai could only laugh in dismay.

Chu Changkuo and Wu Tianyou were two extres.

Both rich second generations, Wu Tianyou could swallow his pride more, and as long as there was enough benefit, he’d lick anyone or anything.

What kind of bullshit dignity?

Offer enough money, and you can take it all!

But for Chu Changkuo, face was more important than anything else. He might not handle affairs or make friends, but he couldn’t lose face.

If he didn’t have that face, what the hell was he living for?!

The difference between the two was vividly reflected in Gu Jiuyue.

Chu Changkuo never flocked to Gu Jiuyue, knowing fully well he had no chance.

Wu Tianyou, on the other hand, licked her boots to death, even though he knew he had no chance.

The most interesting part was Chu Changkuo’s pride and self-esteem, which precisely beca the biggest rit in Chen Nuanhan’s eyes. So even though the two of them were always quarreling, they still bumped and fumbled their way through the two years.

Now, looking back, Su Huai finally saw where his past self had failed—

He lacked Wu Tianyou’s shaless tenacity, and also Chu Changkuo’s determination to staunchly defend his bottom line.

Dangling in the middle, not settling down, not reliable anywhere.

Confucianism’s advocated moderation was a firm, unwavering, and clear-headed self-discipline;

But Su Huai’s hesitant stagnation was a very unsteady wobbling and indecisiveness.

Therefore, always steps behind others in everything, he wanted to do things yet save face, wanted to save face yet couldn’t suppress his restless heart.

Too damn stupid!

Thank goodness, I’m reborn…

Su Huai couldn’t help but sigh deeply.

Even though he had been reborn for less than a day, after re-examining Wu Tianyou and Chu Changkuo, he imdiately identified he issues with himself, thanks to his rich experience.

An unceasing self-reflection doesn’t need to be forced; those who accumulate experiences can have realizations anyti, anywhere.

Su Huai’s twenty years of accumulation, previously useless due to his low spirits, suddenly burst forth now, transforming into nourishnt for change.

Now, there was nothing that could stop him from succeeding.

Well, except for one little lord, trying like a mantis stopping a chariot, attempting to thwart his good mood.

“Old Su, just what do you an? Give an answer!”

Seeing Su Huai ignoring him, Chu Changkuo felt his pride was hanging by a thread and grew anxious.

Sao Ji realized a conflict was brewing and quickly interjected, “Hey, Mr. Chu, is there so kind happy event today? Share with us, let us be happy for you!”

Xia Yu also helped to smooth things over, “Yeah, Mr. Chu, if Huai doesn’t want to drink, don’t force him. We’ll celebrate with you! By the way, what is it that’s making you so happy?”

The two roommates were just persuasive enough, and Chu Changkuo’s mood imdiately soared back up as he broke into a wide smile.

“The largest shantytown redevelopnt project in West City for the past few years has finally been settled! Know about Baizhifang? It’s that spot squeezed between the West Second Ring and South Second Ring. They’ve begun the house expropriation and pre-signing now!”

Sao Ji and Xia Yu obviously didn’t know, but they could roughly grasp the concept of what redevelopnt on the edge of the second ring ant.

“Holy shit!”

Sao Ji’s eyes bulged out as he exclaid, “Mr. Chu, is your place getting demolished?!”

“Not exactly.”

Chu Changkuo waved his hand dismissively.

Xia Yu couldn’t help but chide with a laugh, “Then what are you so happy about? Playing a joke on us?”

“Of course not!”

Chu Changkuo tried to maintain a deanor of reserve and composure, but his furiously twitching eyebrows betrayed him.

In their confusion, he calmly dropped the bombshell with a feigned tough air, “I’m happy because… that’s our family’s project.”

“F*ck, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck, f*ck!”

Sao Ji jumped two ters high, almost losing his mind.

********

Uh, it looks like I can’t climb up the overall rankings.

But it’s okay, just keep typing and let it be. I’ll get as far as I can.

Thanks for everyone’s support, throw flowers~
