Behind them, the man was about to get into his car when he heard their conversation and turned to look at them. when his eyes settled on Chloe, he seed to have recognised her as he murmured, ''it's her. The woman who helped that year. That college junior I've been looking for'' he looked at the other woman and the man with her and frowned, getting a clear understanding of the situation.
''I wasn't lying to you. I indeed gave him my resignation letter today and I will only work till the end of this month. You can ask him yourself''
''So, after resigning, you want to openly seduce my fianc now? Did you think you were now in the sa social status after working with Arnold for a long ti?'' Amanda didn't want to believe anything Chloe said.
Chloe sighed. She felt that the woman in front of her couldn't understand her words at all.
''I wasn't seducing him and I suggest you know the kind of words you speak out. I won't allow you to look down upon ''
''Your friends were with you the last ti and supported you. but now, you are alone, I will teach you a lesson you will never forget'' Amanda said and rushed forth to slap Chloe but a large arm caught her wrist and the person stood in front of Chloe.
The person was the man who was about to get into his car after making his call. He didn't know why he decided to listen in on their conversation but he felt that he needed to do sothing about the situation after recognising Chloe as the college mate he was looking for.
''Who are you?'' Amanda asked after struggling to remove her hand away. The man let go and removed his handkerchief and started wiping his hands. His eyes wandered on Amanda and it was apparent that he felt disgusted just touching her.
Chloe was behind the man and couldn't see him clearly. His broad shoulders made it impossible for her to see what was happening in front of her either. She could only hear what they were saying.
''When you hit a person without any valid reason, you can be charged with assault and be paid to pay about a million dollars in court. Defamation which is also a form of assault is chargeable by law and publicly maligning soone based on groundless accusations when added to the previous claims, you might end up paying a fund of up to 5 million dollars according to the laws of D-City and if the victim doesn't want to be compensated, you will spend 3 to 5 years in prison'' the man finished wiping his hands and looked at Amanda.
She was struck by his words just now and was speechless. she felt a shiver down her spine and took a step backwards. ''Who are you? Are you with her? Did you two plan this together, to scam of my money?''
''My ti is worth more than that amount. If I indeed planned to scam you with the lady behind , I wouldn't settle for just 5 million dollars. I would go with 500 million dollars. Now, your fianc was the one who held unto the lady and made things difficult for her by confessing his feelings. Through it all, the lady wanted nothing to do with him, so if there is anyone to bla, then it is the man over here'' he pointed at Arnold and added, ''if there is nothing else, I will take the lady behind away''
He turned to face Chloe and she finally saw his face. He looked oddly familiar but she couldn't tell where she knew him.
''Miss, will you go with or should I call a taxi for you?'' he asked her and Chloe flushed.
She nodded her head, ''I will go with you''
''Let's go'' he held her hand and went over to his car and opened the passenger door for her before going over to the driver's seat.
Amanda and Arnold watched them as the car left. They were still puzzled by the whole situation.
After driving out of the caf; Chloe seed to have co back to her senses. She turned to the man and told him to pull over, ''can you stop the car for a mont?''
The man pulled over and turned to face her and she furrowed her brows. She really knew him from sowhere.
''You do you no, scratch that. Do I know you sowhere? I feel that I know you from sowhere''
The man chuckled and his dimples appeared making her stiffen. Those dimples, she rembered them so well. There was just one person who had those dimples but she couldn't believe that they were the sa person. Her college mate who suddenly left school due to so illness no one knew about. She even heard later on that he was suffering from an incurable disease.
Chloe's hands quivered as she lifted her fingers to touch him, ''Co Collins?'' she ntioned the na that was still fresh in her mind.
''You still rember ?'' the man smiled, he seed happy that she still rembered him. It has been over five years since they last saw each other.
''I thought you were dead. Everyone said that you couldn't recover from the illness and passed away, but I tried looking for you but I didn't have the connections nor the resources'' Chloe looked at the man and her eyes swelled up as she sighed.
''Oh, don't tell you are going to cry?'' he didn't finish saying that when Chloe undid her seatbelt and hugged him sobbing.
''You were alive. Collins, thank you for been alive. Thank you for not dying. God, I am so relieved'' she started sobbing surprising him but he felt warmth just seeing that soone also cared about him apart from his family.
Five years ago, they were college mates. He was her senior who helped her in her studies but he fell ill and left college halfway to concentrate on his health. He always rembered her because one ti he had collapsed in the hallway and no one ca to his rescue. Chloe was the only one who held up and even stayed with him inside the ambulance all the way to the hospital; he rembered how she sang for him to keep him awake all the way.
He chuckled and patted her back saying, ''it's good to see you again, Chloe. You look healthy''
Chloe cald down and released him, going back to her seat. ''I'm sorry for being over concern and all touchy''
Collins chuckled saying, ''I don't mind. How have you been?''
''I'm doing well. how about you? Were you able to get treatnt? There won't be a relapse, right?''
''I'm fine now, but I didn't expect that the first ti we will be eting again will be you and another woman fighting over a man?''
'That was so embarrassing, right? I don't even know where it all went wrong. I just had to fall for a man who was not available''
''It happens. Don't worry about it. Where are you going?''
''Oh, I totally forgot. I am going to a friend's housewarming party''
''Where is it located, I will send you there''
''You don't need to. I don't want to inconvenience you''
''It is alright by . where are your going?'' Collins did her seatbelt and started the car.
''I am going to'' Chloe took the phone and looked at the address Kristine had sent her, ''it's at Green street, villa 3333''
''That's where I'm going too'' Collins said when she ntioned the address. That was the villa of his cousin, Robyn.
''What? How is that possible?'' Chloe was confused.
''Is the person you are going to Robyn?''
''Oh, yes. How did you know that?''
''Robyn is my cousin. He is the son of my aunt''
''What? Is there such coincidence in the world?'' Chloe chuckled.
''I guess it was the matter of ti before we t''
''Then, do you know Ronald?''
''I grew up with Ronald and Robyn''
''Seriously? You rember my friend, Kris, right? She used to co to and wait till we close then we will go ho together''
''Yes, I rember her''
''She and Ronald are dating. Robyn works in the sa company with my other friend, Brenda. You haven't t her before. She and Jenny are the ones you never t''
''Turns out our circle was just close''
''I guess so'' Chloe chuckled and looked at Collins. She suddenly rembered the ti at school. He used to get a lot of love letters from girls and she used to think of him as been obnoxious until she got closer to him through a project and found out he was a nice person in reality and that ti she found out he had an illness that was incurable, she felt pity for him.
''Do you have a boyfriend?'' he asked after noticing the way she was looking at him.
''Huh? No, why do you ask?''
''Nothing'' he smiled and continued to drive.
''Wait. What happened at the caf? I don't want to tell the girls about it. They will worry about it and I feel too embarrassed to even say it''
''Don't worry, I won't tell a soul'' Collins assured her and drove off towards the new villa that Robyn had gotten for himself.
